January 6, 2017 GSE MARKET STATISTICS SUMMARY Weekly Stock Market Review % 10 Counters Push Up Indices to Impressive New Year Start: The equities Current Previous Change market ended the first trading week of 2017 on a high note, lifted by price Databank Stock Index 22,451.43 22,332.88 0.53% gains recorded in 10 counters. The Ghana Stock Exchange’s Composite Index GSE-CI Level 1,699.42 1,689.09 0.61% (GSE-CI) grew by 10.33 points w/w to ~1,699 points, while the Databank Stock Index gained 118.55 points w/w to ~22,451 points. The year to date returns of Market Cap (GH¢ m) 52,756.81 52,690.99 0.12% the GSE-CI and the Databank Stock Index stand at 0.61% and 0.53% YTD Return DSI 0.53% - respectively. YTD Return GSE-CI 0.61% - Market activity was vibrant this week, owing largely to block trades in Weekly Volume Traded (Shares) 4,342,761 657,326 560.67% Guinness Ghana Breweries and Fan Milk. The aggregate volume of shares Weekly Turnover (GH¢) 13,153,489 383,264 3,331.97% traded surged by ~561% w/w to ~4.34 million shares. These trades, which Avg. Weekly Volume Traded occurred across 21 counters, were valued at ~GH¢13.15 million. 20,779 - (Shares) The Ghana Stock Exchange recorded a positive market breadth w/w: 10 Avg. Weekly Value Traded (GH¢) 62,935 - No. of Counters Traded 21 22 gainers to 3 laggards. Standard Chartered Bank led the gainers chart. The counter advanced by 12Gp to GH¢12.30. Ecobank Ghana followed suit with a No. of Gainers 10 8 10Gp gain to GH¢6.50. GCB Bank increased by 7Gp to GH¢3.63 while Fan Milk No. of Laggards 3 1 climbed up by 6Gp to GH¢11.20. Societe General Ghana and Total Petroleum edged up 4Gp each to 66Gp and GH¢2.02 respectively. CAL Bank and Ghana Oil Company notched up by 2Gp each to 77Gp and GH¢1.12 respectively. KEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS Aluworks and SIC Insurance Company inched up by 1Gp each to 15Gp and 13Gp respectively. Fixed Income Market Current Previous Change Guinness Ghana Breweries on the contrary tumbled by 13Gp to GH¢1.50. 91-Day Treasury Bill 16.75% 16.43% +32bps Ayrton Drug Manufacturing and PZ Cussons Ghana followed, shedding 2Gp 182-Day Treasury Bill 17.91% 17.64% +27bps each to 10Gp and 20Gp respectively. 1-Year Treasury Note 20.50% Next Week’s Stock Market Outlook Daily Global Commodity Prices (As at 06-Jan-2017) Cocoa ($/mt) 2,262.0 2,165.0 +4.48% Next week, we forecast subdued market activity on the floor of the Ghana Stock Exchange, with trades in CAL Bank and Ecobank Transnational Inc. Brent Crude Oil ($/bl) 56.77 57.13 -0.63% projected to account for the larger portion of market activity.
