PART 1 Preliminary Citation, extent and interpretation 1. —(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Space Industry Act 2018 (Commencement No. 2, Transitional and Savings Provisions) Regulations 2021. (2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, subject as follows. (3) In the Schedule, paragraphs 73, 82 to 85 and 113 do not extend to Northern Ireland. (4) In the Schedule, paragraphs 86 to 87 and 116 extend to Northern Ireland only. (5) In the Schedule, paragraph 117 has, for the purposes of the commencement of each amendment of an enactment made by Schedule 12 to the Act, the same extent as the enactment amended.     The SKYLON Spaceplane Borg K.⇤ and Matula E.⇤ University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, 80309, USA This report outlines the major technical aspects of the SKYLON spaceplane as a final project for the ASEN 5053 class. The SKYLON spaceplane is designed as a single stage to orbit vehicle capable of lifting 15 mT to LEO from a 5.5 km runway and returning to land at the same location. It is powered by a unique engine design that combines an air- breathing and rocket mode into a single engine. This is achieved through the use of a novel lightweight heat exchanger that has been demonstrated on a reduced scale. The program has received funding from the UK government and ESA to build a full scale prototype of the engine as it’s next step. The project is technically feasible but will need to overcome some manufacturing issues and high start-up costs. This report is not intended for publication or commercial use. At an agency town hall meeting during the Conference on Small Satellites Aug. 5, Renee Cox, deputy manager for SLS payload integration at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, said the agency was planning to fly cubesats on Artemis 2, the second flight of the SLS, tentatively sched- uled for 2022. “Recently we achieved a level of maturity that has allowed us to identify performance margin, so that means we get to fly cubesats,” she said of the decision to add cubesats to the mission. NASA announced in 2016 it would fly 13 cubesats on the first SLS mission, originally called Explora- tion Mission (EM) 1 and renamed Artemis 1 earlier this year. Those satellites include NASA-funded science and technology demonstration missions, payloads from international partners and compet- itors in the Cube Quest Challenge competition. Harbour Air Group founder, Greg McDougall received a Bronze award for establishing North America’s first carbon-neutral airline in 2007, which also facilitated the world’s first commercial electric flight in 2019. The Sir Ralph Robins Medal for mid-career engineers demonstrating outstanding engineering leadership, was won by Dr Helen Webber, for her achievements in delivering a major engineering project, leadership of a significant team, delivering a major new project and creating commercial success.
