Ironically, Russia won one of the two prizes at MUNA which was the Peace Prize. This is the first time Warners Bay High School has won a prize at MUNA. Both teams thoroughly enjoyed themselves and will hopefully attend next year.

These student not only give up their Friday and Saturday to participate, but spend weeks prepar- ing their position on world issues from the point of view of the country they are representing. Once every five years we have the opportunity to attend a performance of “Sadako”. This year 100 students of Japa- nese in Years 7 and 8 will travel into Newcastle on Friday 8 June. This play is based on a child’s perspective of WW2 in Hiroshima and her journey with her friends. This is sym- bolised in Japan with Sadako’s statue in Hiroshima and the tradition of placing 1000 origami cranes on it.

This year twenty students from Year 10 Japanese will travel to Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Miyajima in September. Hopefully they will be able to place some cranes on the statue for us.

Year 11 Design & Tech

Students are currently working on their second assessment task to produce packaging material for a food based product. They have been producing a series of design ideas through freehand sketches. They then used the scanner, mouse or graphics tablet to computerise their ideas. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator have been utilized to enhance their designs. Students have created wonderful packaging.

Year 11 Software Design Students

After spending all of first term hitting the books and study- ing for an exam, Year 11 students are now beginning their first project based assessment task. They will be planning, designing and programming their own puzzle based games using Microsoft Small Basic as their development environ- ment. We’re looking forward to seeing their applications live online at the end of this term!

Year 12 Software Design Students

Beginning in Term 2, Year 12 students are researching and planning their Major Project for their HSC. Students are al- lowed to choose their own concepts, which thus far have included game development using C# and Flash Action script as their programming languages

Room upgrades

Recently the D18 computer room has been upgraded with new Lenovo computers. Students have benefited from these improvements and have produced some outstanding work in the last few months. Thank you to Mr Clinton Voigt for installing the new computers and software. Special thanks to a few Year 10 boys who assisted Mr Voigt. All comput- ers have Microsoft Windows 7 and Office, Adobe Master Collection CS5, Sony Vegas and Acid Pro, combined with a variety of other software.

They then went on to play in a Gala Day where they were defeated in the first round. However, they bounced back to play a second game which they won easily.

Water Polo The Boys’ Open Water Polo Team won through to the Finals Series of the state- wide Combined High Schools Water Polo competition in the final week of Term 1. The boys got through to the gold medal game against Kirrawee High after two days of tough competition.

In the final game Warners Bay started strongly and nd went goal for goal with the Kirrawee team well into the third quarter. However, as the game went into the final quarter, the more experienced Kirrawee team scored several unan- swered goals to take out the CHS Championship.

The team of Matt Skinner, Jaydon Rolla, Sam Maher, Jay Marjoram, Ethan Reay, Jacob Cerniauskas, Mitch Marsden, Keenan Marsden and Bailey Sheather did very well to prog- ress that far in the competition and were very pleased with ther efforts.
