Summer Informal Paddles By Linda Kortesoja

First of all I would like to thank everyone who came to Tom's and my informal paddles this past summer. The main reason that I help set them up is so that I can paddle with friends! I greatly appreciate Tom Gochenour’s guidance through these lakes because he always guides us the right way! I thought I would write why I have been using these lakes for the last eight years plus for our informal paddles.

I usually use Middle Straits Lake for the first paddle and again later in the season because I feel it's a nice lake that we can paddle all around it in one night plus we can go down the canal to the smaller section of the lake and many times we have found a family of swans. (Also, this place is closest to C J brewery Loon Lake Paddle June 14 (photo by Vicki Schroeder) which is a great place to go afterwards.)

Our paddle with Water’s Edge Kayaking group on I like Cass Lake in the beginning because Tom will is always so pleasant. We start the paddle take us around the canals which are always a little bit with a group picture, then we go to different areas on different and interesting. Also, my favorite paddle of the River or thru their canals. They are the the season is when we do the paddle and the concert friendliest group of paddlers. - it's also our longest paddle. This is well worth the

extra time- we get to paddle and listen to fantastic Loon Lake is so much fun because we can go to so bands. We also can get something to eat while we many different parts of this lake. Through the tubes are listening to the music. we kayak to another section of the lake, up along the

sides we can go into the river and other parts of the Lake is always an adventure so many differ- lake. So many places to paddle… ent things to check out - it's always a pleasure to

paddle this lake. Wolverine Lake is another lake that Island Lake and Kent Lake always have a soft spot in we can paddle the entire lake in one evening. They my heart because this is where I started paddling have small canals and different homes and unusual with kayaking 102 (these informal paddles are some- boats along the shoreline for us to see. what like 102). Again you can kayak all over these two lakes since they connect under the expressway.

We didn't do Orchard Lake this year still this is a beautiful lake with unbelievable homes all around. Nice sized lake and a fun one to paddle.

Photos by Tom Gochenour Long Lake is usually our last lake for the season because it's small and the daylight finishes soon- er. We always go to C J Brewery after this one. It's a perfect way to finish our informal paddles for the Gustaf Stinstrom Loon Lake (photo by Vicki Schroeder) summer!
