Where was the 3 days after the crucifixion? Where is Hell and Paradise?

See diagram attached

Study of where was Jesus during the 3 days after the crucifixion? And what was he doing? This is just a collection of scriptures and notes from various authors and teachers not an absolute but very interesting. Good for group discussion among friends.

This is the belief of many: (including this author) When the Old Testament righteous died they went to a place of departed spirits called paradise which before the Ascension of Christ was under the earth. Likewise those that have died that were unrighteous before and after Christ went to a place of departed spirits sometimes called hell. Therefore there were two compartments separated by a great chasm (gulf in Luke 16:26). The righteous were in paradise or Abaram’s bosom, and the unrighteous (wicked dead) where in hades or hell. “At the ascension of Christ, paradise (and the righteous) was moved from the underworld to a place near the throne of God.”

Old Testament righteous went to paradise (gathered among his people) Genesis 25:8 Then gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.

Genesis 49:33 And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people.

Before Christ’s Crucifixion paradise was down later it was up. See scriptures. Mathew 11:23 down to hell Eph 4:8 descended 2CO 12 caught up, into paradise

2Co 12:1 1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven .

3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)

4 How that he was caught up into paradise , and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

Old Testament Saints (Old Testament) (Abraham s Hades () Bosom) Luke Chapter 16: The Luke Chapter 16 : 19

19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

Matthew 12:40

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Ephesians 4:8 8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth ? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Ephesians 4.8 is a fulfilled prophesy of Psalms 68:18

Psalms 68:18 18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive : thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.

Note: apparently there was a legal thing that happened at the foundation of the world and Jesus the Lamb of God was slain legally so to provide for saving the righteous dead before the crucifixion. When Jesus descended in Eph 4:8 and led captivity captive (folks like Abraham) and gave gifts (eternal life?) One translation says preached to the spirts.

Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom : the rich man also died, and was buried;

Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Matthew 11:23 And thou, , which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day

Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Note: In bible times when a Kings army conquered an enemy they tied the conquered King on a wagon with the spoils of war on the wagon (gold and sliver) and paraded them thru town. (Making a show of them openly)

Many teach that Col 2:15 refers to Jesus going to hades and getting the keys etc.

One conclusion:

Jesus was crucified during the 3 days went to the heart of the earth and rescued the righteous spirits in Paradise and moved paradise to the heavens at the ascension. While he was down there he went to hades or place of wicked dead and got the keys to hell and death.

I cannot deny: Luke 16 (two compartments visible from one another) Ehp 4:8(before he ascended he first descended to the lower parts of the earth) (a double whammy because it’s a fulfilled prophecy.) MAT 12:40 As Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in whale so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in heart of the earth. (Son of man refers to Jesus in the dimension of time)
