PERAYAAN HINDU Thiagu Gunasekaran 3144002961 Pengenalan Kebanyakan perayaan hindu berpandukan kalendar lunar kecuali bagi thai ponggal dan tahun baru . Semua hari-hari raya dipatuhi di kuil-kuil dan juga di rumah. Perayaan untuk dewa tertentu dipatuhi di kuil-kuil yang didedikasikan kepada dewa tersebut. THAI PONGGAL Perayaan Ponggal diraikan oleh kaum India pada pertengahan bulan Januari bagi merakamkan pergerakan matahari menuju ke utara. Thai ponggal memberi penghormatan kepada tenaga matahari dan bermulanya hari pertama bulan thai dalam kalendar tamil.Ponggal dalam bahasa tamil bererti ‘ melimpah-ruah’ . Minyak melimpah dalam belanga tanah liat melambangkan kekayaan harta benda. THAIPUSAM Hari Thaipusam merupakan perayaan yang disambut oleh mereka yang beragama Hindu di seluruh dunia bagi menghormati dewa Murugan. Thaipusam dirayakan pada bulan thai iatu bulan kesepuluh dalam kalendar tamil. Hari Thaipusam merupakan hari menunaikan nazar dan menebus dosa atau memohon ampun diatas dosa dosa yang telah dilakukan selama ini. DEEPAVALI Hari Deepavali merupakan suatu perayaan yang disambut agak meriah oleh kaum hindu.Perayaaan deepavali disambut pada hari ke 14 bulan Aipasi dalam kalendar tamil diantara bulan oktober dan november. Menurut lagenda, Raja Narakasura yang kejam telah dikalahkan dan dibunuh oleh Dewa krishna . Sebelum mati , Raja Narakasura memninta semua hindu di dunia ini meraikan kemenangan itu sebagai peringatan. TAHUN BARU TAMIL Puthandu atau lebih dikenali sebagai Tahun Baru Tamil , merupakan sambutan hari pertama kalendar tamil iatu pada pertengahan bulan April. Orang memberi salam antara satu sama lain pada hari tersebut berkatakan ( Iniya Tamil Puthandu Nal Valthukal ) . SEKIAN TERIMA KASIH.

Origin and significance The Tamil New Year follows the spring equinox and generally falls on 14th April of the Gregorian year. The day celebrates the first day of the traditional Tamil calendar and is a public holiday in both Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. There are several references in early Tamil literature to the April new year. Nakkirar, Sangam period author of the Neṭ unalvā ṭ ai, wrote that the sun travels from Mesha/Chitterai through 11 successive signs of the zodiac. The Tolkaapiyam is the oldest surviving Tamil grammar that divides the year into six seasons where Chitterai marks the start of the Ilavenil season or summer.

2020 MULTICULTURAL CALENDAR Cultural Perspectives on Ageing CORALIE CASSADY ABORIGINAL Coralie identifies as Aboriginal, her grandmother’s ancestral connection being the ‘Jirrbal’ people of the Atherton Tablelands area. Both her maternal grandparents were sent to Palm Island where Coralie’s mother was born in 1927. Coralie was born in Innisfail, raised in Ingham and has been living in Townsville since 2000. She graduated from James Cook University with a Diploma of Communication (2001) and also holds a Diploma of Radio Broadcasting from the Batchelor Institute, North Territory (2006). Coralie Cassady has self-published two poetry books ‘Poetic Perspective’ (2001) and ‘Proper Deadly Poetry’ (2007). Her poem ‘No Disgrace’ from the book ‘Proper Deadly Poetry’ is now a part of the Australian curriculum, having been published in Pearson’s English 9 textbook in 2012. The same poem also appears on the well informed indigenous themed ‘Creative Spirits’ website. She writes about racism, alcohol abuse, mental health issues, domestic violence, politics and family in general. Coralie’s main passion is mental health issues. She has read her mental health poems and other poems at various events and has been a regular contributor to ‘letters to the editor’ of the Townsville Bulletin on many topics during the past 15 years. (Thelugu) (Kannada) ఉా Thelugu: (Ugaadi),(Kannada: యు\ా (Yugadi), Konkani: ) IPA: [juga:di] from yuga + aadi, yuga means era, aadi means start. The start of an era) is the New Year's Day for the people of the Deccan region of India. While the people of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh use the term Yugadi / Ugaadi for this festival. It falls on a different day every year because the Hindu calendar is a lunisolar calendar. The Saka calendar begins with the month of Chaitra (March–April) and Ugaadi marks the first day of the new-year. Chaitra is the first month in Panchanga which is the Indian calendar. The people of Maharashtra term the same festival, observed on the same day, Gudi Padwa. Sindhis, people from Sindh, celebrate the same day as their New Year day Cheti Chand. Manipuris also celebrate their New Year (Sajibu Cheiraoba) on the same day. While it is observed as Baisakhi in Punjab and Puthandu in Tamil Nadu. What to do on Ugaadi? What are the rituals and customs of Ugaadi festival? Ugaadi is celebrated as Thelugu New Year in Andhra Pradesh and Kannada New Year in Karnataka. This is day is popularly known as Marathi New Year or Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra. Here is the list of rituals and customs of Ugaadi day in a brief manner: Thailabhyangana Snanam (or ceremonial bath) : Thailabhyangana snanam or the ceremonial oil bath is performed on in the early morning on Ugaadi.
