Group 1 has the next funeral. Group 2 plays bingo at Maple Lawn in March of 2019.

Please read on.

The Slayton Area Council of Catholic Women currently has 4 parishes in mem- bership, Fulda, Lake Wilson, Slayton and Westbrook. Because of lack in attend- ance and interest in our parishes, the present members and officers have decided to let go of the Slayton Ar- ea CCW. The Slayton Area CCW will no longer exist.

St. Gabriel's Fulda Council of Catholic Women will continue to do the work we have been doing and perhaps become somewhat more active, acting on the feedback from the survey. There will be an FCCW Sunday where we can see all the things the FCCW does and is involved with, probably in February or March. There is so much already going on right now and some time is needed to organize a good report and gathering.

We did send many, many bags, two boxes of school supplies and several pillowcase dresses to Haiti. This comes from our diocese International Service Commission: "Sacred Heart Haiti Missions has sent three containers of donations so far this year. Dale and Joyce Grabarkiewicz, founders of the Sacred Heart Haiti Missions have sent a total of 84 semi-truck items to help the poor people of Haiti in the last 37 years since they started this mission. In addition to the containers, 116 houses have been built for families in need. The second container sent this year went to the city of Soleil, one of the poorest and most densely populated cities in Haiti. They will send one more container this year and then they will start sending again in April of 2019."

ST. GABRIEL QUILTING

We will meet Monday morning, November 5, about 9:00 AM in St. Gabriel School to continue to tie quilts. We have already tied 8 quilts this season and they are really nice! Most will go to Murray County Christmas baskets and some to the Furniture Mission in Sioux Falls. Some quilts we made last year went to Joseph's Coats who are always so appreciative for anything we can give. Thanks, ladies for all your work!

From: Saint Of The Day St Cecilia Catholic.org

Saint Cecilia’s Story Although Cecilia is one of the most famous of the Roman , the familiar stories about her are apparently not founded on authentic material. There is no trace of honor being paid her in early times. A fragmentary inscription of the late fourth century refers to a church named after her, and her feast was celebrated at least in 545.

According to legend, Cecilia was a young Christian of high rank betrothed to a Roman named Valerian. Through her influence, Valerian was converted, and was martyred along with his broth- er. The legend about Cecilia’s death says that after being struck three times on the neck with a sword, she lived for three days, and asked the pope to convert her home into a church.

Since the time of the Renaissance she has usually been portrayed with a viola or a small organ.

Reflection Like any good Christian, Cecilia sang in her heart, and sometimes with her voice. She has be- come a symbol of the Church’s conviction that good music is an integral part of the liturgy, of greater value to the Church than any other art.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 3, when the St. Ann Catholic Church will host a “Basic Evangelization Training” led by St. Paul Street Evangelization (SPSE), a grassroots apostolate whose mission is to share the Good News about Jesus and the beauty and truth of the Catholic Church that Jesus founded. The training will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 2747 29th St., Slayton, MN from 10:00 am -4:00 pm, with the option to attend mass at 9:00 am prior to the training. The registration fee is $10 which covers training, materials, and lunch. Scholarships are available upon request. This training day is “among the most hands on, practical, and dynamic evangelization workshops for Catholics in the world today. Participants will gain the courage they need to be enthusiastic and joy- ful evangelists as they overcome the fear many of us have to share our faith. Those who complete the training will re- ceive basic certification, membership on the SPSE online training site, and materials to engage their parishes and schools in the work of evangelization http://streetevangelization.com/.] Watch for upcoming link to register online. For more information, contact Marcie Cowan at the parish office 507-836- 8030.
