  • STALKED by MY NEIGHBOR a Johnson Production Group Presentation in Association with Shadowland Press Kit
STALKED BY MY NEIGHBOR A Johnson Production Group Presentation In association with Shadowland Press Kit Synopsis One night, while the upbeat, 18 year old photographer Jodi Allen video-chats on computer with her mother Andrea, a psychotic man invades their downtown apartment. Andrea, unable to defend her daughter, calls the police, but it's too late: Andrea watches in horror, via Skype, as the man rapes her daughter. A few months later, Andrea and Jodi leave the city, moving to a nice house in a pretty suburban neighborhood. Andrea is certain they have left their problems behind them, but Jodi, now emotionally traumatized, is fearful of her new surroundings. A few nights later, while Jodi takes photographs from her bedroom window, she looks across the street to see an ominous shadow in her neighbor's house. Is she watching a home invasion? Has her nightmare returned? Panicked, Jodi sprints across the street to warn Lisa, the nice neighbor lady. Jodi and Lisa search the house, but they find nothing. The next day, when Lisa's niece Kristen, 18, returns from a camping trip, Jodi and she are horrified when they find Lisa dead on her bathroom floor. Did Jodi witness a murder? Or, as police Detective Franklin suspects, was it an accident? Jodi knows what she saw! She's certain Lisa was murdered, and she sets out on a personal mission to determine the identity of the ominous shadow. She immediately suspects the 21-year-old trouble-maker of the neighborhood, Nick Thompkin. Jodi tries to convince her mother Andrea that Nick did it, but Andrea doesn't believe her.

Changing Definitions of ‘Educational’ in Children’s Television from ABC/123 to I Love You/You Love Me: The Unintended Consequences of the Three-Hour Rule A thesis presented to the faculty of the Scripps College of Communication of Ohio University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Master of Arts Caitlin E. Malone August 2008 This thesis titled Changing Definitions of ‘Educational’ in Children’s Television from ABC/123 to I Love You/You Love Me: The Unintended Consequences of the Three-Hour Rule by CAITLIN E. MALONE has been approved for the School of Media Arts and Studies and the Scripps College of Communication by Norma Pecora Professor of Media Arts and Studies Gregory J. Shepherd Dean, Scripps College of Communication ii ABSTRACT MALONE, CAITLIN E., M.A., August 2008, Telecommunication Changing Definitions of ‘Educational’ in Children’s Television from ABC/123 to I Love You/You Love Me: The Unintended Consequences of the Three-Hour Rule (110 pp.) Director of Thesis: Norma Pecora This thesis examines the children’s programming being aired by ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX owned and operated stations in Manhattan, New York in compliance with the Three-Hour Rule during the first quarter of 2008. A case study of WABC, WNBC, WCBS, and WNYW comparing children’s programming before the Children’s Television Act, after the Children’s Television Act, and after the Three-Hour Rule revealed that the Three-Hour Rule has not brought significant changes in the amount of programming for children, but that more prosocial programming was produced as a result of the regulation.

  • 1995-96 and 1996-97 Academic Years, the Center Interviewed Students for the Position of Project Monitor
PART I. INTRODUCTION A. Overview The past 12 months have been the most momentous period in the history of the television violence issue. A year ago there were no V-chips, television content ratings, minimum air time requirements for educational television or public discussions about the context in which television violence occurs. Now these developments frame the television violence issue. In September 1995 the UCLA Center for Communication Policy released its first report on the state of television violence. Rather than examining a one- or two-week sample that might contain unusually light or heavy concentrations of violence, the Center thoroughly examined every series, television movie, theatrical film and Saturday morning children’s program on broadcast network television. In addition, we monitored every on-air promotion and advertisement aired during this programming. Our report found that while there were positive signs in the areas of network television series and television movies, there were significant problems in the areas of theatrical films shown on television, on-air promotions and children’s television. Last year’s report concluded with an analysis of the 1994-95 television season, a series of recommendations that we felt would significantly address television violence and an invitation to the broadcast networks to work with us over the next year on this issue. Upon its release, the four networks promised to carefully study the report and its recommendations and accepted the offer to work together on this very difficult and contentious problem. While much work remains to be done over the third and subsequent years of this process, we are happy to report that the broadcast networks were serious in their desire to work with us to improve the ways in which they deal with television violence.

ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Globalization and the Emergence of Japanese Influence in American Popular Culture By Gina Celeste O’Melia Dissertation Director: Dr. R. Brian Ferguson The contemporary and prevailing theories that critique globalization often focus on a central concept of the United States having an exceptional and pivotal role in the mechanisms of globalization. However, while Hegemonic Imperialism scholarship focuses on the concept of the United States exporting its cultural wares in order to transform foreign cultures into a homogeneous one, the fact that the United States’ own popular culture is being transformed by globalization is often overlooked. Saturday Morning cartoons were then analyzed through both a quantitative content analysis and qualitative genre based analysis from 1987-2012.
