Fasching assisted Johnson while he Surface SprinTurf (Artifi cial Grass) was the head coach at St. Cloud Cathedral High School from 1982-85. Johnson taught physical education, while Capacity 8,500 Fasching taught social studies. Fasching later replaced Johnson as head coach in 1986 after he left Cathedral to Opening Date Saint John’s Field (1908) be a graduate assistant coach at the University of Minnesota. The shutout was the 180th in school history, the 11th in 61 games under the direction of Fasching and the 63rd with defensive

coordinator Jerry Haugen '76 on staff (63 shutouts in 468 games, 13.5 percent). Shutouts account for 27.5 percent (174 of 633) of the program's wins (the program has six 0-0 ties). The last time SJU failed to score a point in a game occurred Sept. 29, 1990 (L, 0-21 at Hamline), a span of 327 games (229 MIAC games). The last SJU team to record four shutouts in a season was 1998. IT'S BEEN AWHILE The last time SJU did not attempt a punt in a game was nearly nine years to the date: Sept. 25, 2010, at Augsburg. Senior Naufahu Anitoni (Fairfi eld, Calif./Justin-Siena) and the Johnnies are the fi fth-best punting unit in NCAA Division III, averaging a net of 38.89 yards per punt. Anitoni has averaged 42.2 yards on nine punts this season, six of which found their way inside the opponents' 20-yard line. He was not entirely bored last Saturday, however. He recorded a tackle for a loss of 13 yards as a member of SJU's defensive line in the second half. SOLID DEFENSE The Johnnies held Augsburg to seven fi rst downs and 17 yards on 32 carries, thanks in large part to the 16 tackles for a loss of 73 yards and six sacks on the afternoon. The 16 tackles for loss were the most since SJU recorded 16 in the 41-7 win on Oct. 10, 2009, at Hamline. Augsburg was 3 of 16 (18.8 percent) on third down and 0-for-4 on fourth down.

He succeeded John Gagliardi, who announced his retirement following 60 seasons at SJU, after serving 17 seasons as an assistant football coach and recruiting coordinator at SJU. Fasching was a three-year starter for Gagliardi and the Johnnies at linebacker during the 1978 and 1980-81 seasons. A knee injury held him out of the 1979 season. AS AN ASSISTANT The Johnnies posted a 164-39 record (120-22 MIAC) with 10 conference titles and 12 postseason appearances (22-11 playoff record), including the 2003 national champion- ship, 2000 national runner-up performance and four national semifi nal games during his tenure as an assistant coach. He also coached SJU’s throwers as an assistant track and fi eld coach from 1996-2011. THE FASCHING FILE AT ST. CLOUD CATHEDRAL Born Sept. 30, 1958 Prior to joining the Johnnies’ coaching staff, Fasching served as the head football coach at St. Cloud Hometown Winsted, Minn.
