OUR OPINION Look in the mirror, councilors

ayor Stephen Witt says there’s a problem with the way Lake City Council meetings have been Mgoing of late and reform is in order. The mayor is only half right. The problem is real, but it’s not new. What’s more, it’s pretty clear that councilors who have weighed in on the matter don’t understand the cause of the recurrent chaos every first and third Monday at City Hall. Local residents who speak freely and demand answers are not the problem. Lack of leadership is the problem, and has been for some time. They may be in the market soon.” “The crowds on Saturday were steady and large and we’re expecting a good turn- out (this) afternoon,” said Todd Wilson, pub- lisher of the Lake City Reporter. “I want to thank our community for coming out to see the homes and every- thing our local builders offer. Contact Editor Robert Bridges 754-0428 [email protected] LIFE Sunday, April 28, 2019 www.lakecityreporter.com Section D Local Girl Scouts earn Silver Award By PATRICIA BAILEY Special to the Reporter ave you ever looked around your neighborhood or school and Hwondered how you could make a change for the better? Going for the Girl Scout Silver Award — the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn — gives you the chance to do big things and make your community better in the process. Five local Girl Scout Cadettes in Troop 2224 completed their Silver Award by helping out the local Children’s Home Society here in Lake City. Tara Bailey, Gabrielle Ontiveros, Nicole Goodyear, Markenzie Lewis and Allyson Muller all worked together to remodel three rooms in our local foster care meeting center. The Silver Award is the second highest award in Girl Scouting and requires each girl to donate 50 hours of time to a proj- ect in the community. They have to be in sixth, seventh or eighth grade, and com- plete certain criteria to be eligible to earn the Silver Award. Cadette Troop 2224 heard about the local foster care center needing help in late 2017. The Children’s Home Society is a place for families to spend time together in a safe environment during supervised visits. The building had limited space and funds and needed some paint and furni- ture to make the gathering spaces more comfortable for the families of Lake City. The center originally asked for one room to be painted, but the five scouts discussed what they could do and asked COURTESY if they could completely remodel three Congratuations to Girl Scout Cadettes Troop 2224 for earning their Silver Award.
