Huskies Claim Four Titles at PSAC Championships Bloomsburg University took home four PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) titles on Saturday, Dec. 8. (The PSAC wrestling champi- onships is a combination of the D-1 and D-2 schools which compete together in most other sports). Taking home PSAC titles were Josh Veltre (165); Chris Smith (174); Richard Perry (197) and Justin Grant (285). The PSAC title was the first for each of the wrestlers.

Most PSAC Titles Since 2000 The four PSAC titles were the most for the Huskies since the 2000 season when Bloomsburg also won four titles. In all the Huskies put seven wrestlers in the finals, the most of any team at the event. The four champions were also the most of any team competing there..

Second Place Team Streak Snapped The Huskies had a six-year streak of finishing second at the PSAC Championships snapped this year when they finished third. After winning the PSAC title in 2005, the Huskies had finished second in each of the next six years before taking third this season (Bloomsburg competed with just nine wrestlers due to an injury to Frank Hickman.)

Veltre Beats Nationally-Ranked Opponent for PSAC Tittle Josh Veltre knocked off Edinboro’s Johnny Greisheimer, ranked 16th by Intermat, 6-3 win, to earn his first PSAC title back in December.

Justin Grant 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Qualifier Heavyweight Justin Grant qualified for the 2012 United States Olympics Wrestling Trials. Grant finished second in his freestyle weight class at the U.S. Olympic Qualifying Trial in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Grant reached the final at 120 kg/264.5 pounds, falling to former Division III national cham- pion John Helgerson of Wartburg College 2-1, 1-2, 1-0.

Grant Pins Way to PSAC Title Justin Grant won two of three matches by fall on his way to the PSAC title. Grant opened his day with a pin in just 20 seconds over his opponent from Millersville, then ended the tourney with a pin in 3:22 over his Kutztown opponent.

Perry With Four Wins to Capture Title Richard Perry won four matches to capture his first PSAC title. Perry won his first two bouts by fall, then scored two decisions to win the champi- onship.

Smith Wins First Title Chris Smith, who saw time last year at 165 pounds, moved to 174 pounds this season and won his first-ever title for the Huskies taking the 174 pound PSAC championship.

Scouting Ohio

Ohio is 4-3 (not counting it’s match at Kent State on Jan. 18) after beating Northern Illinois. After NIU won the first match of the night the Bob- cats responded by winning the next seven matches to secure the win.

Sophomore Andrew Romanchik got the Bobcats on the board as he pinned Robert Jillard to win at 149. Romanchik’s pin was one of three regis- tered by the Bobcats. Redshirt sophomore Harrison Hightower and redshirt junior Ryan Garringer also logged pins at 165 and 184, respectively. Redshirt freshman Cody Walters picked up his team-best 21st win on the year with a win at 174 pounds. Redshirt junior Jeremy Johnson and redshirt freshman Phil Wellington also chipped in with win as they posted major decision victories at heavyweight and 197, respectively.
