George Mason is 6-12 on the year, 0-1 in the EWL. The Patriots are coming off a 26-10 loss to Bucknell last Sunday. Sophomore Sahid Kargbo, red- shirt sophomore Greg Flournoy and freshman Zach Martinez each recorded victories for Mason. George Mason is in its first season of competition in the EWL. The Patriots dropped their first-ever EWL match to Clarion, 23-12. Overall the Huskies lead the all-time series with the GMU 6-1.

GMU has wins this season over VMI, Franklin and Marshall, Sacred Heart, Davidson, Anderson and Washington and Lee. The Patriots also finished seventh at the Cradle Gear Invitational at Lock Haven and 13th at the Midlands.

Joe Russell was named the ninth head wrestling coach in George Mason history in July 2011. He arrived in Fairfax following an outstanding career as an assistant at the University of Minnesota. In his two years as head coach, Russell has guided the Patriots to a 10-30 dual record, making improve- ments on Mason’s winless season two years ago. Russell also coached Mendbagana Tovuujav and Vincent Rodriquez to a bid into the NCAA National Tournament in 2011 and Jake Kettler in 2012. He coached current sophomore Sahid Kargbo in representing USA Wrestling at Junior World Champi- onships in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2012 as well.

Russell has assisted in coaching three NCAA championship teams, 11 individual national champions, six Big Ten title teams, 31 individual confer- ence champions and 84 All-America honorees while a member of the University of Minnesota wrestling staff. As the leader of the Golden Gophers’ recruiting efforts, Russell established Minnesota’s place among the nation’s elite.
