A big thank you goes to: David Reynolds

David has been a Foster Grandparent Volunteer for the last six years. He has been volunteering at the Nespelem Head Start Program. He was nominated and received the “Outstanding Volunteer Award” from the Washington Commission for National and Community Service. Governor Jay Inslee presented him this award at the 2014 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award Ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion on April 21st. He was also presented some tickets to go to the Mariner’s Game at Safeco’s Field (which he enjoyed very much). He asked about FPT Manager, “Why did you nominate me?” I said, “How old are you?” He said 75 years old. I said, “How many men 75 years old do you know that volunteer at Head Start coloring, making playdough, tying shoes, etc…” He said, “None.” He has done an awesome job there. The children and staff at Head Start love him and the children young and old call him “Grandpa Dave.” David, “YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF CHILDREN.” A12 • • MAY 2014 TRIBAL TRIBUNE Our best to the graduates of 2014

and her family. When asked if she will start 2014 High School Rodeo Championships chasing horses with her dad and cousins, she laughed and responded indefinitely. The bet, mother, Codi Marchand, clarified, “Was that Krista could not out-do Kaelyn.” For Kaelyn it was less about competition; “I just wanted to push her to be as outstanding as she could be. I always knew she could rope. I wanted her to be better than me, and truthfully, I believe she is a better roper,” said Kaelyn. Memorial Day weekend, Kaelyn and Codi traveled to Kennewick for the Washington State High School Rodeo Association Finals, and Kaelyn competed in barrels and goat tying. She made the top ten in both events, qualifying for the Silver State International Rodeo in Fallon, NV, June 29 to July 5. For her first year in the high school competition, Kaelyn was also named the Reserve Champion Rookie of the Year, placing in the top 18 in barrels, poles, goats and breakaway roping.
