Originally from Leavenworth, KS, Wayne came to the University of MOTIVATION Kansas to play . While attending KU, Wayne received recognition as a two time All-American and was the Big 12 Player of the Year. More importantly, it was during this time at KU that he was FAMILY reached through this ministry and made the decision to acknowledge Jesus as his Lord and Savior. CHARACTER Upon graduation, he was selected in the first round of the 2005 NBA Draft by the , with whom he won a World Championship. The North Central Kansas United Methodist Men are sponsoring an annual scholarship to be awarded to:

A: A student attending one of the following United Methodist Colleges: Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina Southwestern College, Winfield Baker University, Baldwin

B: A student attending a United Methodist Seminary, or a seminary approved by the University Senate (Current Book of Discipline)

The scholarship committee will consist of the District Superintendent, the District Lay Leader and the Scholarship Chairperson.

The amount and the qualifications of the scholarship will be determined annually by the committee and publicized through the Salina District. This year the NCK will be offering one $1,000 scholarship and one $500 scholarship.

The awards will be payable to the institution in two installments upon enrollment in one of the approved institutions and are open to applicants of the classification high school senior or above. The awards are to be based on financial need, at least average scholarship ability and desire of the applicants. The applicant must be a member of a United Methodist Church in North Central Kansas.

Application shall be made by completing a form supplied by the committee providing personal and financial information. This material shall be considered confidential and the form shall be destroyed when no longer needed. Applicants may be called for personal interviews. Awards will be made for one year at a time with recipients being eligible to reapply.

Applications should be completed and submitted to the Scholarship Chairperson by February 23, 2015. The Scholarship Committee will announce its selection at the Annual Men’s Rally in Beloit. In event any recipient shall drop out of school or otherwise lose his or her eligibility as determined by the Committee, said recipient shall forfeit any unused monies and the Committee may offer such monies to an alternate applicant.
