This year’s Day of Service will include many activities as helping wash UTC fleet cars, cleaning up around campus, making blessing bags for the homeless, dog toys for the human society, and a few more small projects! At day events throughout the week, Scrappy’s Cupboard donation bins will be available to accept donations. Pizza and drinks will be provided for lunch!

Paint the Campus Blue and Gold

DATE & TIME: Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm

LOCATION: Cardiac Hill/Lupton Portico

Painting – All banners will be painted on Sunday, October 21, 2017 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in Lansing Court in front of the University Center. Outlines of the painting may be sketched onto the banner prior to that time, but no paint.

Submitting Dry Banner – At around 7:00pm, members of the Homecoming Committee will begin accepting banners. Banners must have a tarp/sheet underneath for drying inside the UC Chattanooga Rooms.

Display Time – Banners will be revealed the next day. Banners will hang from the UC for the duration of Homecoming Week. If weather prohibits, banners may not be rehung. University discretion will be used.

RULES:

1. Banners will be hung vertically from the University Center. Banners will be displayed in alphabetical order. 2. All banners are to be made of banner cloth of no less than 13 oz. and measure 15 feet by 4 feet. They are to be hemmed and to be furnished with a grommet on each corner to facilitate the hanging. Vinyl banner cloth is not acceptable. These policies will be strictly enforced. 3. The paint to be used is to be weather resistant (not water-colors, tempera paint is acceptable) and it is recommended that the banner be sealed or Scotch guarded to prevent running of colors, and that outdoor/latex paint be used. 4. The name of your organization MUST be on your banner! 5. Persons designated by the University will do the hanging of the banners. 6. The banner must be pertinent to the Homecoming theme and in good taste. The Homecoming Directors, Advisor, and University Administration reserve the right to not display a banner if it is not in good taste. 7. Banners will be bulk ordered by the Office of the Dean of Students. They will be $(insert dollar amount, if applicable) and groups must pre-order banners to ensure availability. Checks should be made out to UTC. Payment is due by October 1, 2018. Banners can be picked up from the Office of the Dean of Students on October 16th and 17th. 8. Groups may choose not to purchase a banner if they would like to use the backside of a previous banner if it is in the group’s possession. 9. Groups may pick up banners beginning Monday, October 29, 2018. Banners not picked up by Friday, November 3, 2018, will be disposed of. 10. The winner will be announced at the Lip Sync on Thursday night. 11. Please remember that ALL paint and a tarp must be brought for your own organization. They will NOT be provided.

Chalk Up Chamberlain

The first ever Chalk Up Chamberlain is here! BYOS: Bring Your Own Spirit as we chalk up the sidewalk around Chamberlain Field. Welcome back to the 2nd Annual Office Decorating Competition! Blue and gold runs through our veins, as students and as faculty and staff, so we are happy to bring this event back for Homecoming 2018! Come together as an office/department to decorate your office suite or participate as an individual and decorate your own office or cubicle! Decorating may begin on October 18th, 2018, and must be up ready for judging by October 22nd, 2018. The winner will be announced and awarded on October 26th, 2018.

Judging Will Be Based On:

• Use of theme, “Nightmare on Oak Street: Nightmare on Oak Street” • Use of blue and gold colors • Use of the university logo and/or name

Regulations:

• Supplies will NOT be provided. • When using lights, do not string lights or extension cords underneath your windows or doors. Use the exterior outlets and be sure the lights you are using are UL Rated for exterior use. • Do not string lights across where people walk; this could create a trip hazard. • Do not cover your office door numbers. • Do not place decorations around lights. • Decorations cannot restrict the view of any Exit signs • Decorations cannot restrict the movement through hallways, entrances and exits of the office/building. • All decorations should be discarded promptly following Homecoming Week.

Kick Off and Alumni Mixer

Students, faculty, staff, and alumni are asked to come enjoy a traditional pep rally recognizing our talented football team and their upcoming game against VMI. DATE AND TIME: Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 8:00 pm

LOCATION: Maclellan Gym

Who says Halloween is the only time to be scared? Fright Night: The Ultimate Haunted attraction gets you questioning what's real and what’s not. Get ready as famous characters such as Jason and Michael Myers bring make movies into reality. Sights and sounds and more are going to be in this frightening maze to test what scares you the most. This event is free and open to all current UTC students. Come on out, what are you afraid of? Screens ‘n’ Screams

Want to revisit some childhood Halloween memories? This event is a movie night featuring the 1998 Disney Channel Original Movie Halloweentown that includes fun giveaways and extreme candy bar. You can take the treat bags home and the first three students to arrive will receive UTC blankets. Those following will receive a UTC Homecoming Shirt (limited supplies) so early arrival is suggested.

Lip Sync

DATE & TIME: Thursday, October 25, 2018, at 8:00 PM

RUN THROUGH: Thursday, October 25, 2018, at 4:00 PM

LOCATION: McKenzie Arena

DIMENSIONS OF PERFORMANCE STAGE: 48’ wide by 24’ deep. Stage is 4’ off the ground, with stairs on each side. There will be pipe & drape across the back of the stage.

NEW THIS YEAR: Only dancing is allowed in this year’s performance. This means no in-between skits, prop boards or large-scale props will be allowed on stage or included in the production. You can still use small handheld props. (ex. Things that are held in one hand.) We also encourage you to lip sync to the songs this year.

THEME: The theme of this year’s Homecoming is Nightmare on Oak St: Where the Shadows Creep. Groups are strongly encouraged to incorporate elements of UTC spirit that include but are not limited to: the fight song, the Alma Mater, cheers and/or chants. The songs used must coincide with the set theme of your production and the overall Homecoming theme.

DEADLINES:

• October 2nd by 12:00pm. Registration form on MocSync must be submitted. • October 4th by 11:59pm. Your list of song(s) and theme for your organization’s performance, are due to Kierstan Szalay via email. • October 8 by 11:59pm. You will find out if your song list needs to be altered, due to a repeated song or inappropriate content/language, no later than this date. • October 14th by 11:59pm. Your final MP3 copy to be used must be turned in no later than this date as well as your final roster of participants and pre-show helpers. Failure to have a final copy of the music submitted, or submitting changes to the music after this point will result in an automatic disqualification. New MP3’s will not be accepted the day of the show. CD’s will not be accepted, only MP3 submissions.

There will be three (3) divisions/awards: Best Fraternity, Best Sorority, Best Organization. NO BEST OVERALL!

RULES AND GUIDELINES

● Songs are first-come, first-serve. To eliminate repeat songs, the first group to submit this form for a particular song gets to perform the song.

● The total performance time (including time on and off stage) cannot exceed 5 minutes.

● If your organization goes over the time limit, lights will be cut off after 5 minutes. Any show that exceeds the 5 minutes show limit will have an automatic 5 point deduction; if performance reaches 5 minutes and 30 seconds there will be a 10 point deduction; and if the performance reaches 6 minutes the light will go off, music will stop, and there will be a 20 point deduction. .

● No confetti, water, glitter, or other similar items may be used during your performance Whatsoever if used, then your organization will be responsible for cleaning it up, and there will be a 25 point deduction.

● Also, your organization may NOT throw items from the stage or from their seats.

● No excessive stunting or tumbling. No tumbling passes can include a running start or more than one element. No person’s feet can be lifted above waist level. Stunting and tumbling beyond these rules are subject to disqualification or point deduction at the judge’s discretion and will not be up for reconsideration.

● Performances must remain tasteful and not be vulgar or you may risk elimination or drastically reduced scores from the judges. Judge’s discretion will be used and will not be up for reconsideration.

● The maximum number of TOTAL participants from your organization will be 30 per group. The maximum number of performers on the stage will be 15 people at one time. A 5 point deduction for every person over 15, every time it happens. The minimum number of total participants from your organization will be 5 per group.

● Only one group per organization will be allowed to enter the competition.

● All participants must be members in good standing of the registered student organization and shown on the roster on MocSync.

● If you or members of your organization break in, or trespass into McKenzie arena the week of Homecoming without a reservation or approval, you will be disqualified, and unable to perform at lip sync.

● Each organization will get no more than 30 performance wristbands (backstage and floor access), and 5 pre-show wristbands for extra assistance BEFORE the show begins. Pre-show bands will not be accepted after 8pm when the show starts.

●During run throughs, if you go over the allotted time, there will be a 10 point deduction.

●You MUST clean up your all items from the dance studio in McKenzie, before we will announce who wins. ● A roster of the final head count, to include both performers and those receiving pre-show wristbands, are due with the final copy of your music on October 14th at 11:59pm.

● By clicking agree on the registration form, you agree to all of these rules. Groups will risk penalties and possible disqualification for not adhering to any of the above rules.

LIP SYNC JUDGING CRITERIA (100 points total)

1. Creativity (10 points): This will be based on how original and creative you are for your performance.

2. Enthusiasm & Energy (20 points): How much “life” is in your performance.

3. School Spirit/Theme (20 points): The emphasis placed on UTC and the theme this year.

4. Lip-Sync (20 points): Did the performers lip-sync to the song?

5. Overall Performance (30 points): Overall impression of performance, creativity, school spirit and adherence to the theme and rules.

Monster Mash on Oak

Homecoming Court 2018

Students at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga are invited to apply for the 2018 Homecoming Court. The Homecoming Court is designed to represent the best of the best student leaders at the institution. Members of the Court should represent the values and mission of the institution. Interested individuals should have demonstrated academic excellence, on and off-campus involvement, and involvement in the local Chattanooga community.

Process Overview

Homecoming Court Applications must be submitted in their entirety to be considered by the Homecoming Court Review Committee. All applications submitted will be reviewed by the committee, with the top 20 students being interviewed. Out of those 20 interviews, 10 will be nominated to Homecoming Court 2018. Interviews will be held October 17-19th, 2018. Individuals selected for the Homecoming Court will be notified on Sunday, October 21st at the conclusion of Banner Painting and will be announced publicly at the Kickoff Pep Rally on Monday, October 22nd. The announcement of the winners will occur at halftime at the UTC vs. VMI Game on Saturday, October 27th.

Qualifications

• Good Academic & Conduct Standing • Overall Cumulative GPA of 2.75 • Minimum of senior status (completed 90 credit hours - institution and/or transfer) • Demonstrated leadership experience

Campaigning Rules

• Do not use any campaign practices that all students do not have access too. For example, no campaigning off campus, etc. • Do not use any unethical or immoral campaign practices. For example, no bribing or forcing someone to vote, etc. • Failure to abide by these rules will result in disqualification from the process.

Want to join in on the game day fun? Well then we’ll see you at Finley as we cheer on the Mocs to victory over VMI! Join in our parade that will begin in the parking lot on the south side of the stadium and finish with joining the Mocs Walk. Also, don’t forget to stop by and visit us outside the First Tennessee Pavilion for food and tailgating fun beginning at noon.
