It is interesting even to participate. This study has two significances for readers and students of language and literature faculty. Theoretically, the result of the study will give description about the meaning of symbols used in Malang Mask dance and useful information about cultural understanding, especially in Javanese culture. According to Soekanto (1990:188), culture is complex which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society. Culture are formed based on the local society and become a custom and tradition in the future. Culture is always related to language. This research is conducted in order to answer the following questions: What are the symbols of Malang Mask dance? What are meannings of those symbolism of Malang Mask dance? What causes of those symbolism used? What functions of those symbolism? REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE Language Language is defined as a means of communication in social life. -
The Javanese Language in Relation to the Newly Legalized Law
The Javanese Language in Relation to the Newly Legalized Indonesian Law of Pornography Endang S. Soemartono and Pininto Sarwendah Javanese language often uses sensual and sexuality in conversation and written text. This can be seen from the Javanese oral and written expressions used in daily conversation, songs, traditional plays and dances. To express endearment and something very pleasant and enjoyable the words are connected with sensual organs especially the genital organs and other sensual organs. For example we call a son lovingly with tole /toule/ shortened from the word kontole /k nt le/- a male genital organ, and a daughter/ with wuk /wu?/ from bawuk /bawu?/or gawuk /gawu?/ - a female genital organ. We use similar words for food such as peli gudigen /pəli: gu:digən/ and turuk bintul /turu? bi:ntul/ expressed metaphorically from the shape of the organ or the appearance of the food. Other metaphors in form or movement used in songs, dances, and traditional play are often used for example wulu /wu:lu:/ - for ‘feather’ for ‘fur’, buntut - for ‘tail’ ‘ser ser’ for feeling engkol and dongkrak – for instruments, menthek /məntək/ - plump in a nice way, kebayak Meduro sing ketok pusere lan kurang bakal ben gampang oncek-oncekane – a Madurese kebaya or blouse the stomach of which is seen and not sufficiently made not because of not having sufficient material but it is tailored in order it can be easily opened. The planned bill and law of pornography was influenced by a certain Puritanism group, however, the attitude of the Indonesian societies to sensuality and sexuality was quite open for sensual and sexual activities were considered normal and natural. -

I spent the last three summers learning traditional dance- drumming in Ghana, West Africa. I focus primarily on two schools that I have significant recent experience with: the Dagbe Arts Centre in Kopeyia and the Dagara Music and Arts Center in Medie. While at Dagbe, I studied the music and dance of the Anlo-Ewe ethnic group, a people who live primarily in the Volta region of South-eastern Ghana, but who also inhabit neighboring countries as far as Togo and Benin. I took classes and lessons with the staff as well as with the director of Dagbe, Emmanuel Agbeli, a teacher and performer of Ewe dance-drumming. His father, Godwin Agbeli, founded the Dagbe Arts Centre in order to teach others, including foreigners, the musical styles, dances, and diverse artistic cultures of the Ewe people. The Dagara Music and Arts Center was founded by Bernard Woma, a master drummer and gyil (xylophone) player. The DMC or Dagara Music Center is situated in the town of Medie just outside of Accra. Mr. Woma hosts primarily international students at his compound, focusing on various musical styles, including his own culture, the Dagara, in addition music and dance of the Dagbamba, Ewe, and Ga ethnic groups. -

THE FOUR PATHS TO PUBLISHING Revolutionary changes and unprecedented opportunities in publishing have established four clear paths that authors follow to achieve their publishing goals. by Keith Ogorek Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Development Author Solutions, Inc. The past four years have brought about more upheaval in the publishing industry than the previous 400 years combined. From the time Gutenberg invented the printing press until the introduction of the paperback about 70 years ago, there weren’t many groundbreaking innovations. However, in the last few years, the publishing world has undergone an indie revolution similar to what occurred in the film and music industries. With the introduction of desktop publishing, print-on-demand technology, and the Internet as a direct-to-consumer distribution channel, publishing became a service consumers could purchase, instead of an industry solely dependent on middlemen (agents) and buyers (traditional publishers). In addition, the exponential growth of e-books and digital readers has accelerated change, because physical stores are no longer the only way for authors to connect with readers. While these changes have made now the best time in history to be an author, they have also made it one of the most confusing times to be an author. Not that long ago, there was only one way to get published: find an agent; hope he or she would represent you; pray they sell your book proposal to a publisher; trust the publisher to get behind the book and believe in the project; and hope that readers would go to their local bookstore and buy your book. -

A Culture of Recording: Christopher Raeburn and the Decca Record Company Sally Elizabeth Drew A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy The University of Sheffield Faculty of Arts and Humanities Department of Music This work was supported by the Arts & Humanities Research Council September 2018 1 2 Abstract This thesis examines the working culture of the Decca Record Company, and how group interaction and individual agency have made an impact on the production of music recordings. Founded in London in 1929, Decca built a global reputation as a pioneer of sound recording with access to the world’s leading musicians. With its roots in manufacturing and experimental wartime engineering, the company developed a peerless classical music catalogue that showcased technological innovation alongside artistic accomplishment. This investigation focuses specifically on the contribution of the recording producer at Decca in creating this legacy, as can be illustrated by the career of Christopher Raeburn, the company’s most prolific producer and specialist in opera and vocal repertoire. It is the first study to examine Raeburn’s archive, and is supported with unpublished memoirs, private papers and recorded interviews with colleagues, collaborators and artists. Using these sources, the thesis considers the history and functions of the staff producer within Decca’s wider operational structure in parallel with the personal aspirations of the individual in exerting control, choice and authority on the process and product of recording. Having been recruited to Decca by John Culshaw in 1957, Raeburn’s fifty-year career spanned seminal moments of the company’s artistic and commercial lifecycle: from assisting in exploiting the dramatic potential of stereo technology in Culshaw’s Ring during the 1960s to his serving as audio producer for the 1990 The Three Tenors Concert international phenomenon. -

He had recorded Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto for RCA (with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Erich Leinsdorf) as early as 1966, and Mendelssohn’s Concerto (with the London Symphony Orchestra and André Previn; see volume 5) six years later. He had also gone on to commit a further interpretation of each work to disc: the Prokofiev with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Gennady Rozhdestvensky in 1980 (see volume 29), the Mendelssohn with the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Bernard Haitink in 1983 (volume 33).
