FINA STRATEGIC PLAN 2018 – 2021 FINA Headquarters Chemin De Bellevue 24A/24B CH - 1005 Lausanne
FINA STRATEGIC PLAN 2018 – 2021 FINA Headquarters Chemin de Bellevue 24a/24b CH - 1005 Lausanne SWITZERLAND Tel: (+41-21) 310 47 10 Fax: (+41-21) 312 66 10 www.fina.org Message from the President 5 Vision 6 Mission 6 Pillars of Strategic Plan 7 Strategic Goals 9 3 ARTISTIC SWIMMING OPEN WATER SWIMMING SWIMMING WATER POLO HIGH DIVING 4 DIVING Message from the President The last four years have proved hugely successful for FINA. In May 2013, the International Olympic Committee promoted FINA to the top tier of Summer Olympic Sports. In June 2017, the International Olympic Committee reinforced this reward, confirming aquatics will have the highest number of medals (49) of any sport at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games. We have experienced 3 successful editions of the FINA World Championships – in Barcelona (2013), Kazan (2015) and Budapest (2017) – and our top-level annual events for each discipline have grown. Success at the top end of our sport has enabled FINA to invest at record levels in aquatic sports worldwide. In 2018, we have an excellent starting point to build on recent successes: to pursue our mission of increasing participation in aquatic sports and our vision to enable everyone in the world to swim. This Strategic Plan sets the framework as to how FINA will accomplish this. The FINA Strategic Plan 2018 – 2021 will be underpinned by 4 pillars: 1. Raising Standards 2. Accelerating Potential 3. Uniting Passions 4. Sustaining Growth Everything FINA does between 2018 and 2021 will be focused on strengthening one of these pillars. Our Strategic Plan lays out 10 goals FINA will work to deliver over the next 4 years. -

Nick Thierry Recipient of the 2013 R. Max Ritter Award Presented by United States Aquatic Sports
Nick Thierry Recipient of the 2013 R. Max Ritter Award Presented by United States Aquatic Sports Nick Thierry is the 2013 recipient of the R. Max Ritter Award presented posthumously and in recognition of his life-long affair with swimming. United States Aquatic Sports honors the memory of a man whose unselfish contributions including keeping the history book of swimming straight, simple and true for the benefit of athletes, coaches and also for national federations as well as the international body FINA. "Before his passing on October 2, 2012 Nick invested in the development of a database that contains 40 years of swimming rankings and statistics. That immense work is part of his legacy. When swimmers swim head to head in elite international competition, their foremost goal is to beat the opposition. Once the race is over and they glance up to the scoreboard to see their finish place, their next thought is, "My time, did I do a personal best? Was it a record?" Moments after swimmers hit the finish wall, Nick Thierry took over. Nick Thierry kept the record of the sport alive for more than four decades as the keeper of the world rankings. He was the bastion of swimming statistics and a pioneer in the art of swimming news. His guardianship of the record of athletes performances has been treasured by swimmers, coaches, sports scientists, journalists, sports institutions and swimming federations since he first started to register and chronicle all meets that produced performances worthy of a place in the top 300 across all events. Born in Hungary on December 2, 1938, Nick spent the first eight years of his life in Budapest. -

USMS Liaison & Special Assignments Reports
USMS SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS & LIAISON REPORTS CONTROLLER – Margaret Bayless I officially commenced as USMS Controller on March 1, 2004. During February, I traveled to Washington DC for a handover weekend with Cathy Pennington. Doug Church, Treasurer, also joined us for a good portion of the weekend. Cathy and I had a follow-up meeting in late May. As a result of these meetings, I prepared a Controller’s Manual to help memorialize in detail many of the tasks associated with the Controller position. During the time I have been Controller, the 2003 books have been closed, and have been submitted to the independent auditors for their review. The auditor’s report will be completed in time to be included in the Convention information package. The 2003 tax return is on extension, although it is mostly completed, and awaiting confirmation of final financial results from the auditors prior to filing. The 2003 full-year financial statements and the monthly financial statements for each of January – May 2004 have been submitted with commentary to the EC and Finance Committee. The non-year-end monthly financial statements are generally issued in the third or fourth week of the following month, after receipt of the final monthly registration report from the National Office. The 2003 full-year and the 2004 first quarter reports of expenses have been submitted to the respective committee heads and officers. The non-year-end quarterly reports of expenses are generally distributed via email by the 15th of the month following each quarter-end. Checks are prepared and mailed every week; each Friday morning, I submit a check request report to Doug, who prepares and mails the checks. -
