O’RILEY – FAIN – HAIMOVITZ TRIO Three brilliant mavericks have joined forces to explore new horizons on the cutting edge of what’s possible on and beyond the concert stage. Bridging past, present, and future, the newly formed trio of VIOLINIST TIM FAIN, CELLIST MATT HAIMOVITZ, and PIANIST CHRISTOPHER O’RILEY brings forth programs and projects which, while honoring beloved classical traditions, utilize new technologies (including VR) and multimedia, traverse genres, and fuse their disparate interests to create compelling narratives told through music. Avery Fisher Career Grant-winning VIOLINIST TIM FAIN was heard on the soundtracks to the films Moonlight, 12 Years a Slave, and Black Swan, where he also appeared on screem. Recipient of the Young Concert Artists International award, he has appeared as soloist with the Pittsburgh and Baltimore (Marin Alsop) Symphonies, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, The Hague and Buffalo Philharmonics, Mostly Mozart and National Orchestra of Spain, among others. His recitals have taken him to world’s major music capitals, he has toured with Musicians from Marlboro, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and around the globe in a duo-recital program with Philip Glass. His discography includes “Arches,” “River of Light,” “Fain plays Glass,” and “First Loves.” His solo multi-media evening “Portals” premiered to sold-out houses and features collaborations with Benjamin Millepied, Leonard Cohen, Nicholas Britell, film maker Kate Hackett, and radio personality Fred Child and a new work written for him by Philip Glass. http://timfain.com/ Renowned as a musical pioneer, CELLIST MATT HAIMOVITZ is praised by The New York Times as a “ferociously talented cellist who brings his megawatt sound and uncommon expressive gifts to a vast variety of styles” and by The New Yorker as “remarkable virtuoso” who “never turns in a predictable performance.” He has inspired classical music lovers and countless new listeners by bringing his artistry to concert halls and clubs, outdoor festivals and intimate coffee houses – any place where passionate music can be heard. He brings a fresh ear to familiar repertoire, champions new music, and initiates groundbreaking collaborations, as well as creating innovative recording projects. Besides his relentless touring schedule, he mentors an award-winning studio of young cellists at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music in Montreal. https://oxingalerecords.com/matt-haimovitz/ Acclaimed for his engaging and deeply committed performances, the PIANIST CHRISTOPHER O’RILEY is known to millions as the host of NPR’s From the Top. Now in his fifteenth year on air, O’Riley introduces the next generation of classical-music stars to almost a million listeners each week. He performs around the world and has garnered widespread praise for his untiring efforts to reach new audiences. Christopher O’Riley has performed as a soloist with virtually all of the major American orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, National Symphony, and San Francisco Symphony. In addition, O’Riley has performed recitals throughout North America, Europe, and Australia. Living by the Duke Ellington adage “There are only two kinds of music, good music and bad,” O’Riley – a proponent of the former in all of its guises – has received the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant and an equally coveted four-star review from Rolling Stone magazine. O’Riley strives to introduce new audiences to classical music with an almost missionary zeal by performing piano arrangements of music by Radiohead, Elliott Smith, Pink Floyd, and Nirvana alongside traditional classical repertoire. He has collaborated for many years with the flutist Sir James Galway and cellists Matt Haimovitz and Carter Brey. A prolific recording artist, O’Riley has recorded the music of Beethoven, Stravinsky, Scriabin, Liszt, Ravel, Gershwin, Debussy, and John Adams for Sony Classical, Oxingale Records, RCA Red Seal, Decca, and Harmonia Mundi. Christopher O’Riley splits his time between Los Angeles and rural Ohio. Visit him online at www.christopheroriley.com, and From the Top at www.fromthetop.org.
