Band: Satyricon (N) Genre: Black Metal Label: Napalm Records Album Titel: Live At The Opera Spielzeit: 93:26 VÖ: 01.05.2015 Ich benutze eigentlich nicht so gern Texte von Infozetteln, aber in dem Fall mach ich mal eine Ausnahme, denn besser hätte ich es auch nicht sagen können. Und da ich dem auch uneingeschränkt zustimme, passt es natürlich vortrefflich in die Review. Zitat: "Unbezähmbare Pioniergeister. Avantgardisten. K.I.N.Gs - all dies und mehr ist die schwarzschöne Urkraft, die da aus Norwegen kommt und sich Satyricon nennt. Frontikone Satyr und Drumming-Instanz Frost, haben sich schon vor langen Jahren sämtlicher Genre-Fesseln entledigt und wandeln einzig und allein auf selbstgewählten Pfaden. Auf Alben wie "Volcano", "Now, Diabolical" oder "The Age Of Nero" - oder auch zu speziellen Anlässen auf der Bühne – kollaborierten die Norwegen immer wieder mit Orchestern und Chören. Mit "Live At The Opera" ist nun Satyrs grandioseter Traum Fleisch geworden: am 8. September 2013 traten Satyricon mit dem National Norwegian Opera Chor in Oslo auf – ein epochales Spektakel, das in seiner Gänze auf DVD und zwei Bonus CDs festgehalten wurde." Was erwartet den Hörer hier nun? Einfach ausgedrückt würde ich mal sagen, genau das was er erwartet. Satyricon so wie sie sich der geneigte Fan wünscht. Eineinhalb Stunden Black Metal norwegischer, nein Satyriconscher Prägung. Über die Musik muss an dieser Stelle kein Wort verloren werden, die kennen die Leute, die sich ein Live Album einer Band holen eh schon. Hier geht es vielmehr darum wie diese ganze Live Geschichte umgesetzt wurde. Auf zwei Silberlingen wurden hier 14 Satyricon Klassiker, aus den verschiedenen Phasen der Band, gebannt. Stücke wie "Now, Diablical", "Nocturnal Flare", "Phönix", "Den Siste" oder die Satyricon Hymne schlechthin "Mother North", alle sind sie dabei! Das Soundgewand dieses Live Mitschnitts ist richtig gut gelungen und die Arrangements der Stücke mit Chor und Orchester, lassen die Songs noch bedrohlicher wirken als die Originale auf den entsprechenden Alben. Dabei wird auch die Live Atmosphäre nicht zerstört, wie es ja auch schon mal vorkommt. Ab und an könnte das Publikum etwas mehr zu hören sein, aber es tut dem Ganzen jetzt nicht wirklich einen Abbruch. Fazit: "Live At The Opera" ist ein starkes Live Album, dem man anhört, dass es Satyr und Frost ein wichtiges Unterfangen war, dieses zu veröffentlichen. Fetter Sound und Satyricon in Hochform, das zeichnet dieses Album aus. Das Orchester und der Chor lassen die Klassiker noch bedrohlicher wirken als sie eh schon sind und dies alles macht die Scheibe zu einem Muss in jeder Satyricon Fan Galerie. Formed in Oslo in 1991, Satyricon made an immediate and enduring impact when they emerged from the flourishing Norwegian black metal scene. An idiosyncratic and fervently non-conformist creative force from the start, chief songwriter and vocalist Satyr and his percussive right-hand-man Frost made perpetual evolution and a noble disdain for the banality of much modern music essential tenets of their artistic approach. Having refined and redefined the second wave of black metal with early albums like “Dark Medieval Times” and “The Shadowthrone”, Satyricon screeched away from their peers in 1996 with the release of the widely acclaimed “Nemesis Divina”, simply one of the (!) classic ‘90s black metal albums and a mercurial blueprint for much of what would follow as the genre progressed into a new millennium. From 1999’s vicious, industrial-tinged “Rebel Extravaganza” onwards, it was obvious that Satyr and Frost had no interest in toeing the black metal party line. Instead, via noisily acclaimed triumphs like 2006’s stripped down and seething “Now, Diabolical” and its pitch-black follow-up “The Age Of Nero” in 2008, Satyricon were proudly forging their own unique path, on a never-ending quest to express the inexpressible and to tap into the dark spiritual depths of 21st century humanity. By the time the band released their self-titled album in 2013, their reputation as one of modern metal’s most vital, important and forward-thinking bands was way beyond dispute and routinely backed up by their unerring prowess and power as a live band. 2017 saw the release of their latest and greatest musical achievement, “Deep Calleth Upon Deep”.

I studiesammenheng har jeg streifet innom temaet noen ganger. Da jeg studerte journalistikk i Bodø skrev jeg i 2006 en reportasje der jeg fulgte to unge gutter fra Bodø på Iron Maiden-konsert i Oslo. Og utover det har jeg skrevet noen mindre oppgaver og tekster der metal har vært tema. Men i det store og det hele har jeg nok alltid følt at temaet ikke er seriøst nok, eller at det havner litt utenfor fagene jeg har tatt. Da jeg begynte å studere medievitenskap på Universitetet i Bergen la jeg merke til hvor bredt dette fagfeltet favner. Vi lærte tidlig om forskjelige kultur- og sosiologitemaer. Om fankultur og forskjellen på kunst, camp og kitch. Om Theodor Adorno og kulturindustrien. Tanken på å vinkle noe av dette mot musikkgenren metal ble stadig mer fristende. Nå som jeg først har jobbet med en slik oppgave om metal ser jeg at selv om det har vært gjort en del forskning og skriving om temaet, så burde det vært gjort mye mer. Metal bør forskes seriøst på, og det er mye man kan ta tak i. Det jeg har gjort her dekker bare en liten del.

El oficio en la sociología visual interpreta el diseño de cubierta en relación al extreme metal, específicamente el de un producto titulado “Pampa Endiablada”; compilación de bandas en la zona norte de Chile [2009] A ello se agrega el estudio de la relación que se puede establecer con la noción de hibridación cultural, en tanto tenga cabida en el fenómeno en cuestión. El objetivo es interpretar el diseño de cubierta del disco compacto “Pampa Endiablada” en relación con la producción inscrita específicamente en el extreme metal. Rarely has there ever been such a collection of pioneering bands of extreme music on one label at a special period of time. This DVD features many of the greatest bands ever such as MORBID ANGEL , CATHEDRAL , NAPALM DEATH , CARCASS , and ENTOMBED as well as some that never quite broke big such as GANDALF and DUB WAR . The most glaring and immediate characteristic of this compilation is the grainy visual quality of it all. The DVD looks as if it was taken off of an old VHS master tape. Some videos look worse than others. Immortalised finds redemption for this flaw in the fact that the material on the DVD is just too strong, diverse, and entertaining to deny.
