With a solid final session, Michel Kweicien and Jacek Pszczola held off a stellar final-session run by Billy Cohen and Ron Smith to win the 2001 Pairs. Kwiecien-Pszczola's total of 2621.50 cross-imps narrowly bested Cohen- Smith's 2549.17 by 72.33, roughly the scoring equivalent of a vulnerable undertrick, or 3 imps. In third place with 2288.92 were Bjorn Fallenius and Roy Welland. Jansma-Verhees and Duboin-Ferraro rounded out the top five. The complete final results are on page 2.

Jacek Pszczola and Michel Kwiecien Schaffer-Vernay Win WBP Pairs

Barry Schaffer and Colby Vernay bested the thirty-pair field to win the World Bridge Productions Pairs. Schaffer and Vernay's 1070 cross-imps was barely enough to hold off second place Ken Kranyak and Keith Woolf's total of 1056. The difference, 14 cross-imps, was roughly the equivalent of an overtrick, or 1 imp. Richie Coren and Fred Hamilton, who led at the end of the second session, finished third with 1005.
