How does your appearance affect your business?

Have you ever been to a restaurant where the location is beautiful but the food is bland? In contrast, have you ever been to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant where the food is amazing but the seat cushions have holes in them, the plates are chipped, and the bathrooms are nasty? It’s interesting, isn’ t it, when the appearance and the experience don’t match up. I think that’s why I enjoy watching those television shows where the expert comes into a business, has a frank and unflattering discussion with the business owner about what’s wrong, and we get to see the business makeover by the end of the episode. (Think Tabatha’s Salon Takeover, , and Small Business Revolution.) Anyway, the reason I bring this up is that I want to talk about your branding. What do I mean by branding? The basics, like your business logo, your business cards, your signage, your letterhead, your brochures, your video advertisements, your Facebook page. Does your company's branding reflect the level of professionalism you want to project to your ideal customers? Another way to look at it is this: Is your company’s “look” consistent? Does your company’s “voice” say the same thing across all your marketing channels? Does everyone know -- within your company and outside of your company -- what your “why” is? To borrow from a technique I saw on an episode of Tabatha’s Salon Takeover, take a piece of paper and cut a small hole in the center of that sheet. Next, walk around your shop and see if there is any clutter, worn seats, dirty countertops, etc. I suggest doing this because we tend to forget what surrounds us because it has become so normal for us. But with this exercise, you’ll be able to appreciate what a first-time customer sees when they walk through the front door. Next, take a look at your marketing material. Are your logos, brochures, and business cards looking dated? Have you never even bothered making a video for your business? To borrow from the Black Eyed Peas in their song, “Boom Boom Pow”… “Everything around you is changing. Nothing stays the same ... I'm so three thousand and eight. You so two thousand and late. I got that boom boom pow!” Have you got that boom boom pow? Or are you so two thousand and late? Perhaps it’s time for a refresh? If you feel that your appearances are looking a little dated in the marketing department, perhaps our Rock Star Media division can help you. Rene Arreola is a super-talented graphic designer who has many years of graphic design experience in the commercial printing industry. State assembly votes overwhelmingly to support vehicle safety inspection legislation

By Staff/Wire Reports on June 9th, 2021

Legislation moves without opposition from committees with strong bipartisan support prior to success on assembly floor Sacramento, Calif.—The California state assembly voted 77-1 last week in support of AB 471 (Low, D-Silicon Valley) and moved the CAWA-sponsored legislation over to the state senate for review and consideration. CAWA has provided the following summary of AB 471: Protects consumers and enhances current Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) programs AB 471 focuses on the protection of consumers and enhances current BAR programs by easily verifying and identifying auto repair shops that have proper training and certification credentials. Improves BAR Citation and Fine Program The bill improves the current citation and fine regulatory program by creating an independent citation conference panel to review citations; allows BAR to certify providers that train auto repair dealers; and provides opportunity for repair shops to attend training for minor paperwork citation violations, similar to traffic school. Protects consumers who purchase revived salvage vehicles Combines and renames the current brake and lamp program to the vehicle safety inspection program and provides BAR the authority to develop additional inspection criteria through regulation. AB 471 is also co-authored by Assemblyman Heath Flora (R-Ripon). The legislation moved out of the Assembly Business and Professions Committee, as well as the Assembly Appropriations Committee without opposition and amidst strong support from both republicans and democrats, prior to successfully moving off the assembly floor. The legislation will be heard by the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development regarding policy issues prior to moving to the Senate Appropriations Committee for fiscal review. After a full vote by the Senate on the floor of their house, the bill would move to the Governor’s desk for his consideration. The legislature adjourns on Sept. 10, and the Governor will have until Oct. 10, to sign or veto legislation that reaches his desk.

In addition to sponsor CAWA – Representing the Automotive Parts Industry, AB471 is co-sponsored by Auto Care Association, Automotive Service Councils of California, Automotive Oil Change Association, California Automotive Business Coalition, California Autobody Association, Automotive Service Association, The Coalition for Auto Repair Equality, Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association, California Tire Dealers Association, and the Independent Automotive Professionals Association.
