APPRENTICESHOP'S COMMUNITY SAILING Status for 2020: Modified program, starting July 6th

Sailors aged 13+ will have access to our fleet of sailing dinghies. They must pass a quick skills check before being allowed to sail and they are expected to have a partner to sail with (may be younger than 13) or even 2 friends, so long as the total crew weight is no less than 200lbs. Instructors will be there to assist, but not actively teach beginners, so pair up with a novice or ask a parent or family friend you feel comfortable with to come out! Later in the season we may add different boats, as well as theme days like racing, adventure, and skills refresher for beginners.

The Art Circle, founded and directed by artist Antonia Munroe, offers a series of marvelous workshops encompassing Indian miniature painting, drawing, embroidery, collage, printmaking and textile design with the organic indigo vat. The Camden Area Youth Seamanship Program (CAYSP) is open to anyone interested in learning to row and sail. The program is based out of the Camden Yacht Club nestled in the center of Camden harbor. We start learning about the boating world in rowboats and small sailing dinghies, working closely with friendly and enthusiastic instructors. CAYSP's student to instructor ratio is a 6:1. Small classes allow for hands-on learning by doing, making wonderful friends and appreciating our local environment. We are a welcoming and tight community, hosting a few popular annual events. Our approach is 1.) safety first 2.) making life-long friends and 3.) learning rowing and sailing. We follow guidelines and safety policies that are based and supported by the US Sailing Association with many of our instructors holding US Sailing Level 1 and 2 certifications. CAYSP is a wonderful way to spend part or most of your summer ~ getting to know the harbor, and the world of boating can be carried throughout all of our lives! Through games and drills we focus on skills, teamwork, communication, the development of smart decision-making, and having fun. Our youth group (K-5) begins with the fundamental basics of the sport while the middle school group (6-9) fine tunes skills and progresses to offensive and defensive strategy. The summer clinic, directed by Camden Hills Varsity coach Lindsey Clement, is run by the high school and middle school coaches with assistance from current and former high school players.

Join us this summer for a virtual contemporary art adventure! Each of our weeks is built with a connection to work from our summer exhibition featuring five contemporary painters, video installations by Erin Dorney and Erin Johnson. In addition, we will be providing an art kit filled with materials and tools needed for the week and encourage campers and their families during the week to take a closer look at the exhibitions. To encourage creativity and connection during this time of social distancing, artists of all ages are invited to join our ArtLab educators for programs in the courtyard! Our first outdoor Saturday ArtLab for All is on July 11. Following CDC guidelines, we will be holding our ArtLab in the CMCA courtyard in two sessions with social distancing and individual art kits provided, 20 seats available per session. Jammer Camp is a 3 night, non-contact football camp held at True Park in Hope, ME. Five Town Footballs coaches organize drills to teach football in a fun and engaging manner for all age groups. Each days camp typically ends with a fun game of flag football with players split into their age groups to ensure fun for all. Day 3 of camp culminates with the FTF player combine. Test your speed, agility and strength against other campers your age. No previous football experience is necessary.

GIRLS ON THE RUN

Girls on the Run is an after-school, sport-based youth development program for 3-5th grade girls, which focuses on girls empowerment through running. During the fall and spring seasons, teams meet twice a week for 10 weeks and build up to running a 5K. Interested in bringing Girls on the Run to your school/community for the fall? Girls on the Run Maine also runs a summer camp - Camp GOTR combines the best of Girls on the Run with all of the fun of camp! During this week-long session, 3rd - 5th grade girls will build friendships in a fun and inclusive environment that includes interactive games, being physically active, and expressing creativity through arts & crafts and storytelling. Led by caring and qualified GOTR coaches, Camp GOTR provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity for girls to develop self-confidence, learn life skills they can use now and as they grow, and have fun with friends.

Each day begins with an Opening Game and Morning Meeting. From there the structure is similar to that of a Girls on the Run lesson. Teams move on to the Learn section of the lesson, learning and understanding the theme of the day through games and activities. This is followed by the Play section of the lesson, an opportunity for girls get moving and practice new skills. Girls then re-group for the Create portion of the day when they spend time building, storytelling and doing art and craft projects. The girls close the lesson with a Compliment Circle and team cheer. Afternoon activities include workshops with special guests and community impact projects.

Hurricane Island Outward Bound offers backpacking, canoeing and sailing adventures for middle school, high school, college and adult students. Our nine-day journeys are an opportunity for 13-14 year old middle school students seeking a fresh challenge in a unique wilderness environment and an intense team setting with a single activity. Longer courses for students aged 14+ offer increased challenge, and more opportunities to apply learnings – often in a multi-activity progression.

Our courses for middle school students are designed to have participants build confidence by working on an “I can do it” attitude; gain an identity by realizing the strengths they have in taking responsibility; and know they belong to their crew. Students will build a strong team as they attain specific daily goals; each team member has a specific leadership role, ensuring all contribute to the group's success. They will leave course knowing “we did it together!” Students will learn the meaning of being “crew, not passengers” as they exhibit and practice compassion toward each other and the environment.

The Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership provides extraordinary opportunities to discover what it takes to make a difference in the world - as students, scientists, citizens, and leaders! Sitting 12 miles off the coast of Rockland, Maine, this beautiful off-the-grid community is an ideal setting for middle and high school programs in science, sustainability, and leadership. Our hands-on one or two week summer programs invite students to immerse themselves in the natural world, challenging them to explore and ask questions like trained naturalists in marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Programs are small (with a maximum of 12 students) and are led by trained field scientists and educators, providing a level of instructor expertise and maturity you won’t find in other summer experiences. No day is complete without hiking, swimming, sailing, or rock climbing. Come participate in our field science and leadership programs and make memories and friendships that last a lifetime!

The mission of ISLESBORO ADVENTURE CAMP (IAC) is to provide a safe, full-time, child-centered summer program on Islesboro that will encourage hands-on learning, a sense of adventure and stewardship for the environment, offset summer learning loss, and cultivate community living skills. We use sports, art and nature programming to explore our island resources.

Notes: We will have increased safety precautions and procedures due to COVID-19. Camp will be limited to 18 campers and there will be no off-island field trips.

Georges River Land Trust is thrilled to offer an annual arts and nature summer camp at the Langlais Sculpture Preserve in Cushing, for children ages 7-12 and one week especially for teens, ages 13-17. In the spirit of renowned local artist Bernard Langlais, children will be mindful artists and explorers, while enjoying the glorious setting of the 90-acre Langlais Sculpture Preserve. There are several week-long art camps to choose from, with each week a new adventure in arts and nature. The creative freedom and boundless joy of Bernard Langlais' spirit inspires us to think outside the box, and to let our imaginations flourish!

MCHT offers a variety of educational agricultural programs and free events for youth and adults at its farm preserves in Rockport. NOTE: Summer Sessions have been cancelled – check with the organization about fall programs.

5 sessions: March, May, July, August, October Farm Hands (ages 10-18) – 3-week sessions T & Th in March, May, July, August and October. 3:30-5:00 during the school year; 8:30-11:30 during the summer. Get up close and personal with Aldermere Farm’s Belted Galloways. Learn how to halter, groom, lead and interact with young calves and heifers.

Year-round Aldermere Achievers 4-H Club (ages 12-18) – Year-round. The Aldermere Achievers is MCHT’s 4-H Club (in partnership with Knox-Lincoln Cooperative Extension) for youth ages 12-18, which is mainly a beef club where participants lease a calf, halter train it, and then show it at shows throughout . This club meets year-round and performs community service projects, fundraising projects, and does farm chores throughout the summer.

June – August Teen Ag Crew Paid Internship (ages 14-18) – Late June - late August, 8:00 AM - 12:15 PM, Monday - Friday. A teen social entrepreneurial program at Erickson Fields where a work crew of teens grows food to donate to local food pantries (spring, summer, and fall). Hiring takes place in the spring for the season.

May – October Kids Can Grow (ages 7-12) – One day per month, May-October. Families learning together about growing food using the square foot gardening method at Erickson Fields. Group activities are held on the 1st Wednesday of every month. Participants receive materials and assistance from a mentor to build a raised bed at home. $60 fee per family to help cover the cost of materials. Financial assistance is available on a sliding scale.

Maine Robotics is pleased to bring our FUN and EDUCATIONAL summer programs to the state for the 19th year! We've gone online during the pandemic to keep our staff and your campers safe. This means campers from around the state can join our programs for 9 to 16-year-olds. We offer a wide variety of STEM-focused camps including LEGO Robotics, Coding and Programming in Minecraft, 3D Printing and Design and Build Your Own Computer! Our regular staff (same camper to staff ratio) will be using Zoom to bring the programs to folks across Maine. Now in its 25th year of offering non-residential, one-week photography camps. The focus of the program is centered on expanding the student’s vision of the world around them and increasing their technical skill with the photographic medium. Program choices include digital photography or traditional black and white darkroom. Each camp has a suggested age range that can be flexible. Days are active and packed with a variety of activities; technical demonstrations with the camera, discussions on vision and composition, film processing and print making, field trips for shooting on location, visiting local galleries. Field trips can include exploring nearby lighthouses and beaches, local fairs, festivals, and parades, a ferry ride to Vinalhaven, or walks to parks and playgrounds. The Riley School is a progressive, independent school nestled on over 20 acres of fields and woods by the ocean in Rockport. Founded in 1972 Riley offers full time programming for children ages 4-14, as well as an early childhood program for children as young as 18 months.

At Riley Vacation Camps, children explore their world through play and creative arts on Riley’s beautiful and expansive twenty acre campus. Children will sample a variety of activities both outdoors and inside Riley’s theatre and beautiful, light filled art studio. Children may be introduced to drama, movement, music, skit creation, art projects, woodworking, ceramics, outdoor games, gardening and exploration of the campus and cove. Each weekly session will be an adventure as campers enjoy making both individual and collaborative projects and possibly creating a show to share their new-found skills and talents. Children will explore their creativity and learn how to work together in a welcoming and supportive environment. Indoor activities will be balanced with lots of outdoor adventures on the Riley Campus such as romping in the woods, fields, gardens and sunshine, outdoor games and simply enjoying our wonderful Maine summer days!

Join us for a fun filled summer of exploration at Seaside Village Preschool! Seven themed weeks (themes may be subject to change) are being offered to potty trained children ages 3-6. The camp will run from July 6 -August 21st, Monday-Thursday from 9-3:30 daily. Each week will offer water play, art projects, themed read alouds, daily rest time (outside as much as possible), morning and afternoon snack time, lunch, and so much more! We will focus each week on creating themed projects using recycled materials, will pick veggies from the garden and include them as part of our snacks as they are ready, let the children guide much of the explorations and studies, and create great friendships with a close knit group of children. We will be operating with a limited capacity and following all COVID-19 guidelines.

We are also currently enrolling students for fall 2020.

An emphasis on outdoor engagement, creating and connecting with others, innovation and building community weave through our offerings. Organization and Study Skills Program

Taught by Audrey Dennis. Audrey was a middle school and high school Special Education Teacher for 6 years, in both Maine and Maryland. She taught and co-taught a variety of levels of mathematics and English, as well as other subjects, in small and large group settings.

Standardized Test Prep – PSAT, SAT, ACT

Verbal standardized test prep is taught by certified college counselor, Sara Rademacher. Sara has over 20 years of experience teaching verbal standardized test prep.

Math standardized test prep is taught by former certified teacher, Joan Benner. Joan has over 30 years of classroom experience teaching all levels of high school math.

Waterfall Arts is a community arts center located in Belfast, Maine. Our 2020 summer camps offer a wide range of fun art- making experiences. In July, we will be offering two back-to-back outdoor camps for kids aged 8-12. In week one of "Nature Studio," campers will become plein air artists using every medium - all inspired by leaves, trees, flowers, and the summer sun! In week two of "Artists Out and About," campers will set up mini "studios" on our lawn, sketch and chalk by the waterfront, and create temporary outdoor art installations.
