The program has played on campus since 1969. In 2003 (all privately funded), “the old fencing” was removed and a replica Fenway Park outfield fence was installed, matching the original in Boston – including a 37.5 foot-high “Green Monster”, outfield configuration and right field foul pole. Later, major league size dugouts were constructed (2009) and bullpens were added. The field plays host to numerous youth, high school and inner city ball teams throughout the season. Through an arrangement with the Detroit Historical Society, the left field scoreboard from the former Tiger Stadium has been made functional and is attached to the base of the left field wall. On June 6, 2013, WSU announced plans for the Harwell Field which will include grandstands, a press box and a museum with artifacts from the Harwell Foundation.

The indoor facility was the first new athletic building in nearly fifty (50) years on the athletic campus. Completed in Fall of 2011, the building has 35,000 square feet of space with a maximum ceiling height of thirty-five (35) feet. Enclosed are four tennis courts, a sport track (60 yards), locker rooms for men’s and women’s tennis and baseball, and six offices for coaches and staff. A separate training room services the assembled teams. A tennis scoreboard at the far end of the four tennis courts was added in the Fall of 2013.
