Each year the City of Glen Cove, its employees and the city court staff generous- ly donate a variety of items to bring the true spirit of the holidays to a family who could use a little extra help. Working with Kristin Brosnan, a Gribbon School social worker, one family is selected to be the recipient of the City Hall donations. Debbie McCalla, from the City Clerk’s office, coordinates the giving program each year. “It is personally rewarding to have been a part of this program for over 20 years and we look forward to presenting our spe- cial family of seven with all of the delights of the holiday season,” McCalla said. Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello continues to appreciate how hard McCalla works at making the holiday donation pro- gram a success. “Through her hard work and the generosity of our staff, our dona- tions of non-perishables, food, clothing, toys, money, gift cards and essentials gets larger and larger each December.” Spinello said.

Mayor Reggie Spinello joined Debbie McCalla to take stock of the donations to benefit a local Glen Cove family. Chamber honors DeRiggi-Whitton at Nassau Council Breakfast

Every year, the Nassau County Council of Chambers holds a Small Businessperson of the Year and Legislative Breakfast. Cham- bers of Commerce gather from every com- munity in the county to honor the small businessperson they have nominated for outstanding community service and busi- ness success.

County Legislators who have demonstrated exceptional devotion to the constituents and businesses within their legislative districts are sometimes also nominated for awards. This year, the Glen Cove Chamber of Com- merce selected lifelong Glen Cove resident and Nassau County Legislator Delia De- Riggi-Whitton as their legislative honoree in recognition for all the work she and the county have done on behalf of the city.

While a councilwoman for the City of Glen Cove, Delia was part of the administration that helped start Downtown Sounds. She also served as the liaison to the city’s Se- nior Citizens Center and Senior Advisory Board member. As a legislator, Delia se- cured funds for the city’s shopping district streetscape, including many benches, bike racks and other amenities.
