PANTHER PRIDE Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central retained its title in the Class 2A sprint medley relay with one of the better times in recent years. Anchored by Erika Kuntz, the runner- up in the 400 on Thursday, the Panthers ran 1:47.86. That's the second fastest time at the state meet since Dike-New Hartford set the class record of 1:46.35 in 2010. Kuntz also ran on the 2019 championship team, as did leadoff runner Aubree Bell.

A GENERAL IN CHARGE Sibley-Ocheyedan's Madison Brouwer showed in speed with a 2:14 in the Class 2A 4x800 relay on Thursday. Back on the track in the open 800, she proved to be just as fast. Brouwer, a sophomore handily beat a talented field to win the state championship in 2:13.18 -- more than 3 seconds faster than runner-up Mitzi Evans of Mid-Prairie. It's the first title in the 800 for a runner representing the Generals.

ERZEN EARNS A TITLE Carlisle's Anisley Erzen has won championships on the Blue Oval at the . Now she can celebrate a state championship. Erzen ran away from the competition to win the Class 3A 800 in 2:09.79, which puts her at No. 11 on the state's all-time list. This comes after she won the 400 and 800 at this year's Drake Relays. She finished second in the 400 this weekend.

SMOOTH SAILING FOR THE CLIPPERS Clear Creek-Amana's victory in the Class 3A was the second state championship for the Clippers in a relay. The other? Also in the shuttle hurdle relay, in 2015. Clear Creek-Amana won this year's title in 1:05.39 with sophomore Silvana Kabolo on the anchor.

THOSE HOSTETLER GIRLS SURE CAN RUN For the fifth straight time, a Hostetler is the Class 2A champion in the 1500. Freshman Danielle Hostetler is the latest winner, running away from the field over the final lap to win in 4:45.09 -- her third title of the weekend. Anna Hostetler won the 1500 in 2016, '17 and '18 and Marie was the champion in 2019. Danielle also won the 3000 and anchored the winning distance medley relay team and was the state cross country champion last fall. On the track, the Hostetler family now has combined for 15 state championships, with Danielle having three more years to add to that collection.

MID-PRAIRIE DOES IT AGAIN Mid-Prairie's run goes in the Class 2A team competition. The Hawks compiled 61 points to win their third consecutive championship and a freshman led the way. Danielle Hostetler won the 1500 and 3000 and anchored a victory in the distance medley relay. The Hawks also picked up a third in the 4x100 relay. Northeast was second with 59 points.

WAHLERT WINS A THIRD Dubuque Wahlert Catholic is a state champion again. The Golden Eagles won their third Class 3A team title and first since going back-to-back in 2011 and 2012. Victories in the 4x100 and 4x2000 relays propelled the title run. Solon was second with 51 points.
