A native son of new york, henry krieger ’s musical education began while listening to the strains of chopin and Liszt flowing from his parents’ phonograph. As time went by, his tastes moved into a more modern idiom through exposure to the music of great r&b artists such as Fats Waller, ray charles, Jackie Wilson, and the Drifters. As a young adult he accompanied his parents to broadway musicals, where the show-stopping production numbers made an indelible impression on him. His grade school in scarborough, equipped with a theater similar to the original Helen Hayes theatre, reinforced his interest in the dramatic arts, and he later continued his creative and liberal arts education at in Washington, D.c.

While still in his 20s, mr. krieger began composing for off- off-broadway, which led to his meeting playwright/lyricist . together with director/choreographer michael bennett, they created the long-running broadway hit musical , which opened to rave reviews at the imperial theatre on December 20, 1981. Dream girls won six and mr. krieger was nominated for his now legendary score, for which he won a grammy Award for best original cast Album. Dreamgirls generated new success with new audiences as a Dreamworks film directed by bill condon. the film was nominated for eight , including three nominations for mr. krieger for “,” “Listen,” and “patience.” He received a grammy Award for “Love you i Do.” 7 in December 1983 mr. krieger’s musical The Tap Dance Kid opened at the on broadway, winning two tony Awards. His next broadway musical, , with book and lyrics by , opened at the theatre in november 1997. Side Show received four tony nominations, including best score. A reimagining of Side Show , directed by condon, premiered at La Jolla playhouse last november and will play the kennedy center’s eisenhower theater in June 2014.

Erin davie ’s broadway roles include rosa bud in The Mystery of Edwin Drood , countess charlotte malcolm in , young Little edie in ( for outstanding broadway Debut), and niki Harris in Curtains . off-broadway she has appeared in The Glorious Ones (Lincoln center theater) and (encores!). she has toured with Swing! , The Music of , and Guys and Dolls . ms. Davie’s regional theater credits include Side Show at La Jolla playhouse, A Time to Kill at Arena stage, Sunday in the Park with George at st. Louis rep, Carousel at goodspeed, 90 Years of MUNY Magic , Camelot , The Apple Tree , Jekyll & Hyde , and The Student Prince . she can be heard on the cast albums for Grey Gardens , A Little Night Music revival, and The Glorious Ones . Her television credits include Orange Is the New Black , Law & Order , and .

Charity dawson has returned to new york after playing the role of effie White in the national and international tours of 8 Dream girls . she was born in tulsa, oklahoma, but later relocated to Detroit, michigan, where she began performing with her family in church. she attended the Detroit school of the Arts, where her love for storytelling was sparked. that love brought her to new york in 2003 to further her studies in musical theater at the American musical and Dramatic Academy, and she began performing professionally immediately after graduating. ms. Dawson can currently be seen at st. Luke’s theatre playing disco diva Lavora Verona in the new off-broadway musical Disaster! Among her other credits are The Color Purple (church Lady/Darlene), The Wiz (evillene), the title role in Aida , Smokey Joe’s Cafe , and george Faison’s If This Hat Could Talk (billie Holiday).

darius de haas was part of the original broadway productions of Kiss of the Spider Woman, Carousel (revival), , The Gersh wins’ Fascinating Rhythm, Marie Christine, and the 20th-anniversary concerts of Dreamgirls and Hair . notable off-broadway, regional, touring, and premiere credits include his obie Award–winning performance in Running Man , Once on This Island (first national tour), the John Adams opera I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky , Jesus in GOSPEL at the Alliance theatre, and cain in stephen schwartz’s Children of Eden . He made his debut with the cincinnati pops orchestra, and he has performed in two concert tributes featuring the music of billy strayhorn and for Lincoln center’s Ameri can songbook series. mr. de Haas has performed, recorded, and/or toured with elvis costello, 9 Debbie Harry, marvin Hamlisch, roberta Flack, and Vanessa Williams. His television credits include My Favorite Broad way: The Love Songs , The View , Good Morning America , Today , and A&e’s Private Sessions . He appears on soundtracks for the films Anastasia , Martin & Orloff , and Chicago , and his solo releases include Day Dream: Variations on Strayhorn and Quiet Please with pianist steven blier. Joshua henry is a dynamic performer who fills the stage with his presence and captivating voice. A graduate of the university of miami, he made his acting debut in the paper mill playhouse production of God spell in 2006. His star quickly rose as he joined the cast of In the Heights on broadway and won a as part of the outstanding ensemble perform ance. in 2010 mr. Henry was nominated for a tony Award for his portrayal of Haywood patterson in The Scottsboro Boys . He has also performed on broadway in American Idiot and in the tony Award–winning revival of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess . Last July, mr. Henry gave a critically lauded performance in at center. most recently he filmed season seven of Lifetime’s hit drama series Army Wives , portraying corporal Quincy montclair. He reprises his role of Flick this spring in Violet on broadway at the American Airlines theatre. mr. Henry is also a composer and solo artist. 10 Matthew hydzik was most recently seen on stage as buddy Foster in La Jolla playhouse’s reimagining of Side Show , and as nick Hurley in the world premiere tour of Flashdance—The Musical . His broad way credits include tony in West Side Story and kenickie in Grease . mr. Hydzik was introduced to Henry krieger’s music 13 years ago, in a college production of Side Show at penn state university, leading to other performances and a valued friendship.

Rebecca Luker most recently starred in ’s Cinderella as the Fairy godmother. before that she starred in the world premiere of maury yeston’s for the roundabout theatre company. other broadway credits include (tony nomination), , (Drama Desk and outer critics circle Award nominations), (outer critics circle nomination), Showboat (tony nomination), The Secret Garden (Drama Desk nomination), The Phantom of the Opera , X (The Life and Times of Malcolm X) , and for . off-broadway she has appeared in Indian Blood (primary stages), Can’t Let Go (keen company), and . ms. Luker has performed at carnegie Hall, the Library of congress, and the White House, and she made her new york city concert debut at Lincoln center’s American songbook in 2005. Her television credits include , The Good Wife , Law & Order: SVU , the cbs television movie Cupid & Cate , and several pbs specials. she has recorded I Got Love , Greenwich Time , and Leaving Home for ps 11 classics, as well as Anything Goes: Rebecca Luker Sings Cole Porter for Fynsworth Alley. born and raised in birmingham, Alabama, ms. Luker resides in new york city with her husband, actor , and her stepsons, Alex and Zach.

Emily Padgett has appeared on broadway in Rock of Ages (sherrie), Legally Blonde , and Grease . Her national tours include Flashdance—The Musical (Alex), Grease (sandy), and . Among her regional credits are the recent La Jolla playhouse production of Side Show (Daisy Hilton) and White Noise: A Cautionary Musical (eden) at chicago’s royal george theatre. she has performed in the new york workshops of Diner , Peter and I , and Beyond the Music . Her television credits include Louie and America’s Got Talent .

Alice Ripley made her broadway debut in 1992 in The Who’s Tommy . since then, she has appeared in six original broadway casts, earning tony and Drama Desk nominations for her work in Side Show and winning a 2009 best Actress in a musical tony Award for her portrayal of Diana goodman in the pulitzer prize–winning Next to Normal . in the last year ms. ripley appeared as margaret White in Carrie , as herself in the final episode of 30 Rock , as caroline Weldon in the award-winning film Isn’t It Delicious , as bev/kathy in Clybourne Park at the Long Wharf theatre, and as mary todd Lincoln/Lewis payne in paula Vogel’s Civil War Christmas . she just wrapped shooting the indie film Muckland, and this summer she will begin shooting the feature film SUGAR . she has been working with mixed media on 12 giant and mini canvases and recently launched ripLeycAnVAs. Along with four original broadway cast recordings and countless guest tracks on compilation cDs and demos, ms. ripley is an accomplished /musician and has released three albums of her own music. new york’s 54 below is home to her club act Ripley Reflects . keala Settle received a 2013 tony Award nomination for her portrayal of norma Valverde in Hands on a Hardbody on broadway. Her performance also garnered Drama Desk and outer critics circle nominations and a theatre World Award. other broadway and new york credits include Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Violet (encores!). she has performed in the national tours of (bloody mary) and (tracy turnblad). she appeared as the Fortune teller in Side Show at La Jolla playhouse and recently played the narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at ogunquit play house. she appeared on television in The Big C . she will play madame thénardier in Les Misérables later this spring.

on broadway, Lillias White has performed in Barnum as Joice Heth, in Dreamgirls as effie melody White, in Cats as grizabella, in Chicago as mama morton, and in Once on This Island as Asaka. As sonja in cy coleman and ira gasman’s The Life , ms. White was awarded the “quadruple crown” of broadway honors: the outer critics circle, Drama Desk, Friends of new york theatre, and tony awards for best Featured Actress in a 13 musical. Her most recent broadway turn was as Funmilayo Anikulapo kuti in Fela! , for which she received a tony nomination. Her many fans have also enjoyed her off- and off- off-broadway in Crowns at second stage (AuDeLco Award), Romance in Hard Times at the public theater (obie Award), Nativity at riverside church, and The Princess and the Black- Eyed Pea for AmAs . ms. White’s film credits include Pieces of April , Game 6 , and Disney’s Hercules . she was featured on Sesame Street for four seasons as Lillian edwards (emmy Award). she has performed cabaret acts at Lincoln center’s American songbook, the kennedy center, san Francisco’s Venetian room, the Apollo, Feinstein’s, and carnegie Hall. most recently, ms. White appeared in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone at the mark taper Forum in Los Angeles.

Andy Einhorn (musical director and piano) most recently music directed and conducted the new broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. other broadway credits include the revival of Evita , Brief Encounter , The Light in the Piazza , and Sondheim on Sondheim (grammy nomination). He will serve as musical director and conductor for the world premiere of Woody Allen’s Bullets over Broadway , which begins previews in march. mr. einhorn’s tour credits include Sweeney Todd , The Light in the Piazza , Mamma Mia! , and The Lion King . He has worked at the public theater, good speed opera House, signature theatre, oregon shakespeare Festival, and paper mill playhouse. He served as principal vocal coach and pianist for Houston grand opera’s An Evening with Audra McDonald , a 14 double-bill of poulenc’s La voix humaine and Lachiusa’s Send . He has served as musical director and pianist for mcDonald since 2011, performing with the philadel phia orchestra and san Francisco symphony and at carnegie Hall. He has also music directed for at Fein stein’s and toronto’s royal conserva tory of music. mr. einhorn’s recordings include the cast album for Stage Door Can teen and mcDonald’s newest release, Go Back Home. He served as the music supervisor for the Great Performances special Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy on pbs and as music director for the Hbo documentary Six by Sondheim . He is pleased to continue his collaboration with Henry krieger and is grateful to this wonderful group of performers and musicians. mr. einhorn is an honors graduate of rice university.

dan Willis (reeds) is one of new york city’s most active and versatile woodwind specialists. His fifth cD, The Satie Project II (Daywood Drive records), was in the running for two grammy Awards (best Jazz instrumental and best engineered Album). mr. Willis has been a regular addition to the new Jersey symphony orchestra, new york pops, new york philharmonic, new york city ballet orchestra, and brooklyn philharmonic. He has performed in 18 broadway shows, including the tony Award–winning Kinky Boots . He has toured worldwide with michael brecker’s Quindectet, the birdland big band, Don Henley, , and Wynton marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln center Jazz orchestra, as well as serving as arranger for bone thugs-n-Harmony. mr. Willis is a member of the roland Vazquez band and the grammy-nominated John Hollenbeck 15 Large ensemble, and a frequent collaborator on the baby einstein music education series. He can be heard on countless jingles, soundtracks, and recordings, including the cast albums for West Side Story , The Book of Mormon , and Kinky Boots . mr. Willis is a graduate of the eastman school of music.

born and raised in Dallas, kenny Lavender (trumpet) studied at indiana university and at the university of north Florida, where he began working for artists like and the transfer. He has played with clark terry, Jimmy and percy Heath, Jon Faddis, Dave Holland, slide Hampton, nicholas payton, and Dave brubeck. musical credits include The Music Man , Oklahoma! , Thoroughly Modern Millie , The Drowsy Chaperone , A Chorus Line , Gypsy , In the Heights , West Side Story , the Radio City Christmas Spectacular , Newsies , Nice Work If You Can Get It , Jesus Christ Superstar , Motown , and The Book of Mormon . mr. Lavender has performed with Frankie Valli, peter cetera, the Four tops, the temptations, steve and eydie, Johnny mathis, Frankie negron, and Josh groban. He received his master’s degree in jazz performance and composition from Queens college in 2012, where he earned the prestigious Award. mr. Lavender’s first album, Conscious Journey, by the kenny Lavender big band, features his own compositions and arrangements.

keith O’quinn (trombone) has served as trombonist for 22 broadway musicals. He has toured with buddy rich, maynard Ferguson, Lionel Hampton, chuck man gione, Louie bellson, 16 gerry mulligan, Frank sinatra, Liza minnelli, Dizzy gillespie, bob mintzer, maria schneider, and barbra streisand. His recording credits include rich, mangione, bellson, mulligan, mintzer, schneider, streisand, tony bennett, charles mingus, Joe Henderson, phil Woods, michel Legrand, Audra mcDonald, John scofield, barry manilow, David byrne, michael Jackson, Linda eder, Aretha Franklin, gladys knight, philip glass, mariah carey, burt bacharach, ricky martin, Dave grusin, sinead o’connor, Jim Hall, george benson, James galway, earl klugh, eumir Deodato, and many others. mr. o’Quinn has also played on the soundtracks for more than 50 movies and for countless television and radio jingles.

Michael Aarons ’s (guitar) performing and recording credits include well-known artists such as plácido Domingo, barry manilow, Josh groban, James ingram, michael mcDonald, , ray charles, Luther Vandross, paul mccartney, Liza minnelli, chaka khan, patti Labelle, and many more. on broadway he has served as guitarist for Kinky Boots , Evita , Godspell , Baby It’s You! , American Idiot , Memphis , 9 to 5 , Grease , High Fidelity , and Laugh Whore . mr. Aarons was an arranger on the tony- and pulitzer-winning broadway show Next to Normal . His publishing and production company, Hybrid music productions, has composed original music for Sesame Street , cnbc, Lifetime, oxygen, Abc, oWn, and mtV. Hybrid music also has licensed original songs for movies such as edward burns’s Fitzgerald Family Christmas and Promised Land starring matt Damon. 17 Mark Vanderpoel (bass) is a native of san Diego. His holds a bachelor’s degree from the university of california, san Diego, where he studied with bertram turetzky, and a master’s degree from the california institute of the Arts. mr. Vanderpoel is a former member of the san Diego symphony, as well as various other chamber groups from the area, in addition to ensembles based in the baja california region of mexico. His extensive theater credits include Legally Blonde , Cinderella , See What I Wanna See , Guys and Dolls , the pbs special A Broadway Celebration on In Performance at the White House , and many others. mr. Vanderpoel’s stage and sideman credits include Audra mcDonald, , kelli o’Hara, nancy sinatra, , shirley Jones, cliff richard, Deborah Voigt, sandra bernhard, clay Aiken, taylor Hicks, David Johansen, sigur rós, Jeff beck, and Andrea bocelli. passions include surfing and using his Vitamix.

Rich Rosenzweig (drums) is currently the drummer for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella on broadway. previous broadway credits include End of the Rainbow , Follies (revival), Ragtime (revival), White Christmas , Bells Are Ringing (revival), and State Fair . mr. rosenzweig played in the orchestra for the recent nbc live broadcast of The Sound of Music , regularly serves as drummer for city center’s encores!, and plays in the kennedy center Honors orchestra. special events and national/international tours include , The Wizard of Oz , West Side Story , The Scarlet Pimpernel , The Will Rogers Follies , and the 2002 sondheim Festival at the kennedy center. 18 mr. rosenzweig was leader of the jazz group east Down septet and has played and/or recorded with the Jazz composers collec tive, Jane ira bloom, Frank kimbrough, ron Horton, park stickney, baltimore pops, the Jimmy Dorsey band, cy coleman, kate baldwin, and carol channing.

Jeremy Robin Lyons (assistant musical director and orchestrator) recently served as musical director for 54 Sings Maltby & Shire: What Could Be Better? (54 below), Songs by Ridiculously Talented Composers and Lyricists… with William Finn (barrington stage company and 54 below), Much Ado About Nothing (bsc), Next to Normal (musically Human theatre prod.), and It’s Only Life with John bucchino (momentum rep). He served as assistant musical director for On the Town and Fiddler on the Roof , also at bsc. projects currently in development include serving as musical director and arranger for JUNK: A Rock Opera with the swedish pop band brainpool, recently presented at the national opera center and Joe’s pub. mr. Lyons created new piano reductions for A Tale of Two Cities (post-broadway) and a chamber reduction for A Doll’s Life (new ohio theatre).

in 1998, Lincoln center launched American Songbook , dedicated to the celebration of popular American song. Designed to highlight and affirm the creative mastery of America’s from their emergence at the turn of the 19th century up through the present, American songbook spans all styles and genres, from the form’s early roots in tin pan Alley and 19 broadway to the eclecticism of today’s singer-songwriters. American songbook also showcases the outstanding interpreters of popular song, including established and emerging concert, cabaret, theater, and songwriter performers.
