Water (and sweat) fl ows for King of the Ranges Upper Hunter Shire Mayor Wayne Bedggood has assured visitors and locals that there will be no lack of water at this weekend’s King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge and Bush Festival, despite the current level 4 water restrictions in Murrurundi. “Due to the water challenges we are all facing, and as part of our ongoing contribution to King of the Ranges, Council is bringing at least one 10,000 litre truck load of water from Scone, to be used for dust suppression so as to not draw on local supplies,” Cr Bedggood said “If needed during the weekend, Council will also top up the town supply with water trucked from Scone. “While the new water treatment plant has enabled us to reduce restriction levels, we are making additional arrangements to ensure the Festival can run successfully and there are no adverse impacts on residents or the Murrurundi water supply. “Council also supports this important community event through an annual donation which this year is $6000, other Cultural Activity Grants, as well as grounds work and maintenance at the Rosedale complex including replaced old pipe work which provides water for stock, toilets and other Meet the staff facilities. “Council works in partnership with the many volunteers of the King of the Ranges Committee, and we thank them all as well as sponsors such as Regional Australia Bank. “Bob Paton deserves special mention for his devotion to the festival, not just as current Committee Vice President but as a volunteer builder and labourer who is constantly improving the facilities at Rosedale. “Upper Hunter Shire Council is proud to continue to support the Murrurundi King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge and Bush Festival which returns this Friday.” For more information visit www.kingoftheranges.com.au Scone Motor Inn Image is courtesy of the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Conference Centre Music. The timely, engaging writing lavishly justifies the Brisbane-based publication’s reputation as Australia’s best example of its genre.’ The West Australian ‘There is a consistently high standard of writing: all of it well crafted or well argued or well informed, as befits the various genres.’ Sydney Review of Books ‘This quarterly magazine is a reminder of the breadth and talent of Australian writers. Verdict: literary treat.’ Herald Sun ‘Griffith Review editor Julianne Schultz is the ultra-marathoner of Australian cultural life.’ Canberra Times ‘At a time when long form journalism is under threat and the voices in our public debate are often off-puttingly condescending, hectoring and discordant, Griffith Review is the elegant alternative.’ Booktopia Buzz ‘Griffith Review is a consistently good journal. There is some terrific writing on display as well as variety and depth to the issues being grappled with.’ The Age ‘Australia’s most important literary essay magazine.’ Courier-Mail ‘At once comfortable and thought-provoking, edgy and familiar, [it] will draw the reader through its pages.’ Australian Book Review ‘Griffith Review is a wonderful journal. 1 Top Pick Thursday 20 July 8.30pm World Premiere Pulse It’s eight years since high-flying financial analyst Frankie’s failing kidneys landed her at death’s door, and a transplant offered her a second chance. Now a doctor in her second year, it’s Frankie’s (Claire van der Boom) first day in a Renal rotation, where she wants to earn a permanent spot working under Renal boss, Chad Berger (Owen Teale), the very doctor who saved her life. But for Frankie especially, a hospital can be a dangerous world. Though uniquely qualified to understand her patients as a transplant recipient herself, she is also vulnerable to infection, and her compassion for others may very well endanger her own life. Frankie’s best friend, Lou Tannis (Andrea Demetriades), is training to be a surgeon, but is confronting the limitations in her own cutthroat field, and the boys’ club of surgical training teams. Will her fling with hotshot surgeon Rowan Mitri (Blessing Mokgohloa) help or hinder her progress? Female surgeon, Maggie Cutter (Susie Porter), is Lou’s hardest taskmaster. But will she become the mentor Lou needs? Meanwhile, Frankie and Lou’s housemate Tabb (Arka Das) is on his first day as an intern, terrified that he won’t stand up to the pressures, particularly when faced with his prickly, wounded-warzone cardio registrar Eli Nader (Liam McIntyre). Frankie correctly diagnoses the mystery behind patient Zoe’s (Melissa Bonne) symptoms: Zoe needs a new heart, but is soon in strife after sending Shawn (Daniel Amalm) home without his life-saving dialysis.
