Gladys Knight
Contact: Caitlyn Baker [email protected] (805) 944-7780 (c) (805) 350-7913 (o) R&B LEGEND GLADYS KNIGHT TO PERFORM AT CHUMASH CASINO RESORT SANTA YNEZ, CA – August 12, 2019 – Gladys Knight, the “Empress of Soul” who has won seven Grammy Awards throughout the span of her iconic career, is coming to the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019. Tickets for the show are $79, $89, $99, $109 & $119. Knight has recorded two No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 singles, 11 No. 1 R&B singles and six No. 1 R&B albums. Knight was born in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1952 at the age of 7, she won Ted Mac’s The Original Amateur Hour TV show contest. This event marked her first encounter with fame. Later that year, she formed a musical group named “the Pips” with her brother, sister and cousins. By the end of the decade, the act had begun to tour and eventually her sister and one of her cousins were replaced. By 1961, the group released a single on the tiny Atlanta Huntom label called “Every Beat of My Heart.” In 1966, Gladys Night and the Pips signed on with Motown Records with whom they scored several major hit singles, including “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” “Take Me in Your Arms and Love Me,” and “If I Were Your Woman.” In 1973, they left Motown for a better deal with Buddah Records. Here they achieved significant success with hits such as the Grammy Award-winning track “Midnight Train to Georgia,” “I’ve Got to Use My Imagination” and “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me.” The group continued to have hits until the late 1970s when they were forced to record separately due to legal issues, resulting in Knight’s first solo LP recordings – “Miss Gladys Knight” on Buddah Records in 1978 and “Gladys Knight” on Columbia Records in 1979. -

A Soulful Sound Wendy Renee Delights Audiences with Her Vocals
M IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU By Jean Amodea A Soulful Sound Wendy Renee delights audiences with her vocals endy Renee abandoned the cold winters of Minneapolis, Minnesota for the sunshine of Southwest Florida, packing up her passion for singing, along with her personal belongings for the cross-country migration. That was eight years ago, and since then, the professional singer Whas delighted local audiences with her vocals. The multitalented beauty whom has modeled, acted and performed in musical theater was born into a home filled with music; never questioning that singing would be her life’s vocation. “My earliest memory was singing with both my parents, then at school events where I would organize talent shows, directing and casting and costuming. I even came up with a one- girl show in fourth grade wearing a turtle costume and performed in the library for whoever wanted to watch me,” Renee said, of her musical upbringing. Over the years, she developed an extensive repertoire, singing The Great American Songbook standards to the soulful music of her favorite influences, legends Etta James and the jazz of Ella Fitzgerald to the ‘60s music of Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Diana Ross and Whitney Houston. “I love to learn new material and look for the talent in every generation of music; it also helps me from getting bored. I love singing the music of Adele, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Amy Winehouse and Bruno Mars.” Renee calls opening for Etta James, in a Minneapolis concert where she performed an opening set of jump, swing and blues tunes, one of her most memorable performances. -

Directed by Morgan Neville Produced by Gil Friesen Produced by Caitrin Rogers WORLD PREMIERE U.S. DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL 2013 Running Time: 90 minutes | Language: English SYNOPSIS Millions know their voices, but no one knows their names. In his compelling new film TWENTY FEET FROM STARDOM, award-winning director Morgan Neville shines a spotlight on the untold true story of the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century. Triumphant and heartbreaking in equal measure, the film is both a tribute to the unsung voices who brought shape and style to popular music and a reflection on the conflicts, sacrifices and rewards of a career spent harmonizing with others. These gifted artists span a range of styles, genres and eras of popular music, but each has a uniquely fascinating and personal story to share of life spent in the shadows of superstardom. Along with rare archival footage and a peerless soundtrack, TWENTY FEET FROM STARDOM boasts intimate interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger and Sting to name just a few. However, these world-famous figures take a backseat to the diverse array of backup singers whose lives and stories take center stage in the film. DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT About two years ago, I sat down with Gil Friesen, a longtime music industry veteran from A&M Records, whom I only knew by reputation. He told me he wanted to make a film about backup singers. He didn’t know what the film was going to be, but he knew there was something intriguing in there. -
