Calling all This summer, Wakefield Council Libraries and The Reading Agency have teamed up with WWF for a very special nature-themed Challenge that will inspire you to stand up for the planet! This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is part of Festival of the Earth; an exciting collection of events, activities, workshops and more taking place from July to October 2021 across the Wakefield district. Find out more: expwake.co/EarthFestWFD It’s free, family friendly and in your local library from Saturday 3 July 2021 Visit your local Wakefield Council library to join. Choose any six books to read over the summer and win rewards, a certificate and a medal. Finish the Challenge and you could help your school to win a prize too. Join in online at wildworldheroes.org.uk Enjoy family fun exploring libraries and sharing books together as you become #WildWorldHeroes 2 What’s On Moon Carrot puppet shows Captain Codswallop’s Treasure Hunt presented by Moon Carrot Puppet Company. A tale of piracy and adventure on the high seas in this fun pirate theme puppet show. An original, fun and entertaining interactive show for children and family audiences performed from a traditional style seaside puppet booth. ZooLab For over 20 years, ZooLab has amazed, educated and inspired through its ethical and engaging hands-on animal encounters. Meet some real wild world animal and insect heroes and find out about their amazing lives at this fun experience suitable for all the family. Imagination Gaming Imagination Gaming present their Wild World Heroes gaming challenge with classic and modern themed games sourced from all over the world to play with your family and friends. Pit your wits at familiar and totally new board games in this animal-crazy adventure. 3 What’s On Conrad Burdekin Poet and creative writer Conrad Burdekin is returning to Castleford Library this summer by popular demand. Join him for a wild world adventure and be entertained by his legendary skill with words and storytelling. Juniper Foodwise Bev Juniper is a local Freelance Home Economist and Community Food worker who is back in our libraries by popular demand delivering themed family friendly healthy cookery workshops where you can eat what you make! It’s fresh, it’s fun and it’s tasty! What a treat! Topsy Turvy Theatre Written especially for children aged 2-7 (and their big people too) and told with Topsy Turvy Theatre’s own blend of energetic storytelling, handmade puppets, original music and stunning scenery, Christopher’s Caterpillars is an uplifting live event puppet show about a pair of adventurous and curious guinea pigs. 4 What’s On Fettle and Fable Theatre Discover a magical world within an old suitcase. Toller’s Neighbours is a special ‘puppet theatre in a suitcase’ performance told by award winning Fettle and Fable Theatre company and inspired by a traditional Scandinavian folk-tale. Renewi Come and join us with our friends from Renewi to create your own bird sculpture from everyday household waste. All the wonderful bird sculptures will flock together to make a special display at the end of the summer. Help us to make Wakefield a more environmentally friendly district and reduce, renew, reuse and recycle. Lion Learners Make your day a little more exciting with a hands-on small animal experience with Lion Learners. Storytime favourites are brought to life with friendly animal characters and packed with animal facts.
