St. Mary Elementary-Middle School Dress Code

In order to promote intellectual and spiritual growth in a noncompetitive environment, St. Mary School pupils will wear uniforms as specified below. Uniforms must be clean and in good repair in order to be in compliance with the dress code. Students are to be in full uniform on all school days unless the principal designates otherwise. It is expected that parents/guardians will support the uniform code, which is enforced by the principal, faculty, and staff. See handbook for complete guidelines.

K-Grade 5 Girls

Jumper: A plaid or navy blue jumper available from Educational Apparel; shorts must be worn under jumper at all times and should not show below the jumper. Leggings (white or navy) may be worn in place of shorts in cold weather.

Blouse: Plain dress blouse, oxford, knit with collar, or turtleneck; pale blue, pale yellow or white. Any shirt worn under the blouse must be white or navy.

Skirts: Dark navy or Educational Apparel Plaid only; no more than 3 inches above the knee. Shorts or leggings must be worn under skirt as with jumper. Slacks: Dark navy only; classic tailored (Docker) style; belt (black or navy) is optional but recommended; no knit pant; leggings are not to be worn as pants.

Socks: Plain anklet, knee socks or tights; navy or white only; socks may be worn over tights in cold weather. Socks must be visible above the shoe.

Earrings: Post earrings only. Hair Accessories: Used to keep hair off of face and neck may be worn. Bows of appropriate size and color may be worn. K-Grade 5 Boys

Shirt: Dress shirt, oxford, knit with collar or turtleneck; pale blue, pale yellow or white. Any shirt worn under the uniform shirt must be white or navy.

Slacks: Dark navy only; classic tailored (Docker) style; belt (black or navy) is optional but recommended; no jeans or pants with rivets or cargo style pants.

Socks: Plain white or navy visible above the shoe. K-Grade 5 Girls and Boys

Shorts: Navy blue walking shorts are permitted from May 1st to October 15th; belt is optional, but recommended. No cargo style shorts. Sweater: Dark navy only; crew neck, V-neck, vest or cardigan; uniform shirt must be worn under sweater. Sweatshirt: St. Mary insignia only, available from Educational Apparel and occasional apparel sales during school year; uniform shirt must be worn under sweatshirt; hooded sweatshirts or hoodies are allowed to be worn as jackets, however are not allowed to be worn during class.

Shoes: Athletic shoes or dress shoes; no clogs, sandals, crocs, boots or light up shoes. Hair: Moderate hair styles, short hair for boys; boys will be clean-shaven.

Fads: No fads allowed, for example; hair coloring, tattoos, body piercing, artificial fingernails, jewelry; no make-up, no nail polish, no wrist or ankle bracelets, see Principal for exceptions; only a watch or ID Bracelet is permitted to be worn. NO EARRINGS FOR BOYS.

Gym attire: School uniform with athletic shoes, no jewelry, post earrings only. Middle School Dress Code

Middle School Girls

Skirts: Grey or plaid skirt or skorts (top of knee), blue or black shorts must be worn under skirt at all times. NO PANTS FOR GIRLS.

Shorts: Grey walking shorts to top of the knee (May 1st thru October 15th).

Sweater: Dark green cardigan or pullover sweater.

Socks: White or green knee socks.

Shoes: Black “Mary Jane” shoes or similar slip on shoes (see Schoolbelles web site for ideas).

Middle School Boys

Pants: Grey chino pants or dress slacks.

Shorts: Grey walking shorts to top of the knee (May 1st thru October 15th) No cargo style shorts.

Shirts: White or dark green polo shirts. White button down shirts are to be worn with a plaid uniform tie on Mass days or other special days as directed by the principal.

Sweater: Dark green pullover sweater or sweater vest.

Belts: Black belts.

Socks: Black socks.

Shoes: Black dress shoes.

Middle School Girls and Boys

Hair: Moderate hair styles, short hair for boys; boys will be clean-shaven.
