Spiritual Reflection

“Love one another as I have loved you”. Jesus’ teaching is clear and his message is simple, isn’t it? Facing the imminent departure from his disciples, Jesus commands them to do so. Loving one another is the signa- ture of our Christian identity. We cannot be Christians without loving. It is an honor and obligation. Once upon a time, the disciples of John complained to their master: “Teacher, don’t you have something else to teach but love? We know that we need to love each other. What else…?” Without saying a word, St. John listened to them patiently and dili- gently. Until one day, after receiving so many similar complaints, he said to them: “If you love each other already, there is no need for further preaching or teaching”. The legacy Jesus leaves for his followers and all of us is to love one another. When do it, we become his disciples in both words and deeds. What we do and who we are, are crystal- ized in love. Fr. Dam

Grouping News

PARISH GROUPING POTLUCK ALL parishioners, no matter your age, are welcome and encouraged to attend our Pentecost Parish Potluck on Sunday, June 9 after the 11:30 AM Mass at Immaculate Conception Mis- sion, again hosted by our parish grouping's Young Adult group. Please be sure to wear RED to the potluck to celebrate the Holy Spirit!! Sign-up sheets are in the back of each of the churches. Please sign up and list how many people are coming and what dish you will bring to share. PROPOSAL We still await further info on the Shrine Proposal from the Diocese. A new Grouping of four parishes – Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Nicholas, St Anthony Chapel/Most Holy Name of Jesus and St. Patrick/St. Stanislaus – are being designated as Shrine Parishes. These four will be under a new clergy team of an administrator and two parochial vicars yet to be named. It is scheduled to begin by July 1st. What this means is that IHM, once this new Grouping is established, will no longer be a part of the Grouping with SMG and OLA. If there are any questions or concerns about this new Grouping arrangement, please contact by email or phone any of the Clergy Team and we will try to address those concerns. As we learn more about a definite timeline for this proposal and the new clergy team, we will be communi- cating that to all of you.

SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND This weekend there will be a special Second Collection in support of the Catholic Relief Asso- ciation, as well as the Church in Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, and Africa. All those who will benefit from this outreach will appreciate your generosity.

INTERIM MASS SCHEDULE SURVEY With the designation of our Grouping as the two parishes of St. Maria Goretti and Our Lady of the Angels we are now moving forward with a Survey concerning the Interim Mass schedule that has been in place for the past six months. This Survey is offered to the two parishes that will now make up our Grouping. It is offered electronically, through a Survey Monkey posted on our websites – oloa.org or stmariagorettipgh.org. This is the preferred way to complete the Survey. For those who do not have email or access to a computer there is a hard copy of the Survey near the bulletins in the back of church that can be completed and returned to the parish office by mail or through the collection basket. We encourage all those who can to please use the Survey Monkey option on line since that gives us a quicker response. All Sur- veys need to be completed by this Sunday, May 19th. **The parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary, who will be part of the new Shrine Parish Grouping, will have to wait for consultation by the new Clergy Team to determine their future Mass Schedule.

HOLY NAME SOCIETY MEETING The Holy Name Society will meet Sunday, May 26th at 9:10 a.m. to pray a rosary for the sick of the Holy Name Society and our parish communities. A renewal of the pledge will follow immediately afterwards. All men of our parishes 18 years and over are invited to join them for coffee, donuts, and fellowship after the 9:30 a.m. Mass in the Lower Room of the church at Our Lady of the Angels.

SICK OR HOMEBOUND We want to make sure that all the Sick and the Homebound, who are not able to come to church, will have the Sacraments offered to them at home. If you or some parishioner you know is not able to come to the church at this time, please call the parish office so that we can get their name, address and phone number and can arrange for them to receive Holy Commun- ion. One of the Clergy Team would like to visit them and we also want to arrange for one of the Ministers of Communion to visit them each week if that is desired.
