Bucholz, PhD Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis New York, Coordinator Scientific Program Mental Health in Public Health: The Next 100 Years In the past 100 years, the APPA meeting topics have spanned dreams to genes, neuroses to psychoses, and nosology, co-morbidities and treatments of major mental disorders. In these decades, there has always been an awareness of the importance of a global public health perspective in understanding etiology, course and treatment of mental disorders. More recently, there has been a focus on population science and its place in determining thresholds, risks and trajectories for mental disorders. This Centennial Meeting will address mental health disparities and populations at risk for illness; shifting demographics; changes in mental health from youth to older age; issues that shape the debate about public mental health and new approaches to including mental health in public health. Topics address disorders conditional upon exposure; intersections of criminal behaviors, mental illness and addiction; perceived stigma and discrimination; economic predictors of mental health and others. Each speaker will give an evidence based call to action for improving the public mental health. The meeting will conclude with a Forum of Past Presidents, where each will share their vision for the next 100 years.
