Just about every year at the yearling sales there is an unexpected buzz about an unproven stallion or two, as bloodstock agents and trainers convince themselves that this surprise package could be the next big thing. Now Lawman could hardly be described as a surprise package. After all, he had started his stallion career at Ballylinch Stud at a fee of i25,000 on the strength of his all-the-way victories in the G1 Prix du Jockey-Club and G1 Prix Jean Prat. However, he hadn=t been snapped up by one of the superpowers of European breeding and his fee had fallen to its current level of i15,000 by 2010, the year his first yearlings reached the sales ring. -

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2019 SUPER STEED KENTUCKY VETS DON'T BELIEVE LATEST EI OUTBREAK WILL IMPACT RACING by Bill Finley SHOCKS IN SOUTHWEST On the heels of an equine influenza outbreak that shut down racing in Great Britain for eight days earlier this month, a handful of show horses have come down with the same virus in Ohio and Indiana. Because the infected horses in the U.K. had raced at two different tracks and had come in contact with several horses that were stabled throughout the country, British racing officials felt it necessary to shut down racing until the situation was under control. Speaking of the cases in Indiana and Ohio, Rusty Ford, an equine operations consultant for the Kentucky State Veterinarian's Office, said people working in the racing industry should be Aconscious of the situation but not necessarily worried.@ Cont. p6 Super Steed | Coady Photography IN TDN EUROPE TODAY Michael Pressley and Steed Jackson=s Super Steed (Super Saver), tabbed a >TDN Rising Star= after breaking his maiden in a PEDIGREE INSIGHTS: BLUE POINT Churchill Downs optional claimer last November, rebounded Andrew Caulfield looks at the pedigree of recent G2 Meydan Sprint hero Blue Point (Ire) (Shamardal). 'Henley' Fits Perfectly in Turf Trinity
THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 2019 ‘HENLEY’ FITS PERFECTLY BROMANS TO OFFER A DOZEN YEARLINGS AT SARATOGA IN CHANGE OF TACTICS IN TURF TRINITY by Christie DeBernardis Chester and Mary Broman have dedicated 22 years to the New York breeding program and have enjoyed quite a bit of success with the likes of GI Breeders’ Cup F/M Sprint winner Bar of Gold (Medaglia d’Oro), MGISW Artemis Agrotera (Roman Ruler) and GI Florida Derby hero Friends Lake (A.P. Indy), among others. The couple spent the first 20 years racing everything they produced on their 300-acre farm in Chestertown, N.Y., but starting last term, they began selling off their crops in what Chester Broman refers to as estate planning. Buyers at Fasig- Tipton’s upcoming yearling sales will have a chance to acquire some of New York’s finest with five Broman-bred yearlings in the Saratoga Selected Yearling Sale and an additional seven in the NY-Bred Yearling Sale.
