Animation: Types
Animation: Animation is a dynamic medium in which images or objects are manipulated to appear as moving images. In traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets to be photographed and exhibited on film. Today most animations are made with computer generated (CGI). Commonly the effect of animation is achieved by a rapid succession of sequential images that minimally differ from each other. Apart from short films, feature films, animated gifs and other media dedicated to the display moving images, animation is also heavily used for video games, motion graphics and special effects. The history of animation started long before the development of cinematography. Humans have probably attempted to depict motion as far back as the Paleolithic period. Shadow play and the magic lantern offered popular shows with moving images as the result of manipulation by hand and/or some minor mechanics Computer animation has become popular since toy story (1995), the first feature-length animated film completely made using this technique. Types: Traditional animation (also called cel animation or hand-drawn animation) was the process used for most animated films of the 20th century. The individual frames of a traditionally animated film are photographs of drawings, first drawn on paper. To create the illusion of movement, each drawing differs slightly from the one before it. The animators' drawings are traced or photocopied onto transparent acetate sheets called cels which are filled in with paints in assigned colors or tones on the side opposite the line drawings. The completed character cels are photographed one-by-one against a painted background by rostrum camera onto motion picture film. -

Stop-motion Animation An Introduction What is Animation? In its simplest form, animation is essentially making something that doesn’t move (inanimate) look like it is moving (animate). This can be done through repeated drawings or paintings (traditional 2D), using puppets or clay (stop-motion) and using computer programmes and software (CG and 3D). All of these methods have one aim in mind: to create ‘the illusion of life’. Whilst you watch these clips, think about the different types of animation used. How many of these films do you recognise? Younger Animators might also get a kick out of watching some classic ‘Looney Tunes’ cartoons. What is movement? A movement is when something goes from point A to point B in a certain amount of time. The amount of time it takes dictates how fast that movement is. In other words, if something goes from point A to B in a short amount of time then it is a fast movement, and if it takes a long time then it is a slow movement. Experiment: Try out some actions like waving, spinning in a circle and walking all at different speeds. -

E. Society RNC Arts, JDB Commerce and NSC Science College, Nashik Road, Tal. & Dist. Nashik, Maharashtra, India. Abstract: The term "Stream-of-Consciousness" signifies to a technique of narration. Prior to the twentieth century. In this technique an author would simply tell the reader what one of the characters was thinking? Stream-of-consciousness is a technique whereby the author writes as though inside the minds of the characters. Since the ordinary person's mind jumps from one event to another, stream-of- consciousness tries to capture this phenomenon in William Faulkner’s novel The Sound and Fury. This style of narration is also associate with the Modern novelist and story writers of the 20th century. The Sound and the Fury is a broadly significant work of literature. William Faulkner use of this technique Sound and Fury is probably the most successful and outstanding use that we have had. Faulkner has been admired for his ability to recreate the thought process of the human mind. In addition, it is viewed as crucial development in the stream-of-consciousness literary technique. According encyclopedia, in 1998, the Modern Library ranked The Sound and the Fury sixth on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. The present research focuses on stream of consciousness technique used by William Faulkner’s novel “The Sound and Fury”. -

Keith Duncan INTRODUCING GENRE AS A CONCEPT The goal of this activity is to provide students with a concrete understanding of the concept of genre as it applies in the sciences, how it is related to communication modes, and how leveraging genre conventions can impact the efficacy of their message. To begin the exercise, we first need a definition of “genre.” As such, the introduction begins with the following discussion: 1. “We typically find the concept of genre applied in the arts, in categories such as literature, movies, and music. Let’s work together to complete this table. What are some examples of genres in each of those areas?” Complete table. Category Example Genres Literature [Sci-fi, Mystery, Biography, Manga] Movies [Action, Comedy, Romance, Anime] Music [Country, Rap, Jazz, Ska] 2. “When we think about genre, what separates each of these from the others?” Here, we are trying to drive students to a common understanding of genre, namely that there is a set of conventions that both the communicator/artist and the audience agree upon and provides a common ground for both parties to relate. It may be best to focus on a particular category and genre to unpack this fully. For example, using “science fiction books” as the focus here, some possible discussion points might include: It gives you an idea of the setting (i.e. outer space or far into the future); It tells you the values of the society (i.e. scientific progress and innovation); It includes common tropes (i.e. -

Dr. Hallett ELEMENTS OF FICTION – NARRATOR / NARRATIVE VOICE Fundamental Literary Terms that Indentify Components of Narratives “Fiction” is defined as any imaginative re-creation of life in prose narrative form. All fiction is a falsehood of sorts because it relates events that never actually happened to people (characters) who never existed, at least not in the manner portrayed in the stories. However, fiction writers aim at creating “legitimate untruths,” since they seek to demonstrate meaningful insights into the human condition. Therefore, fiction is “untrue” in the absolute sense, but true in the universal sense. Critical Thinking – analysis of any work of literature – requires a thorough investigation of the “who, where, when, what, why, etc.” of the work. Narrator / Narrative Voice Guiding Question: Who is telling the story? …What is the … Narrative Point of View is the perspective from which the events in the story are observed and recounted. To determine the point of view, identify who is telling the story, that is, the viewer through whose eyes the readers see the action (the narrator). Consider these aspects: A. Pronoun p-o-v: First (I, We)/Second (You)/Third Person narrator (He, She, It, They] B. Narrator’s degree of Omniscience [Full, Limited, Partial, None]* C. Narrator’s degree of Objectivity [Complete, None, Some (Editorial?), Ironic]* D. Narrator’s “Un/Reliability” * The Third Person (therefore, apparently Objective) Totally Omniscient (fly-on-the-wall) Narrator is the classic narrative point of view through which a disembodied narrative voice (not that of a participant in the events) knows everything (omniscient) recounts the events, introduces the characters, reports dialogue and thoughts, and all details. -
