We’re all set for September

Here is all you need to know about the move to our amazing new building

We are proud to be part of Diocesan Academy Trust. Dear Parents/Carers,

We are so excited to be moving into our new building in September 2021. This information leaflet is designed to introduce you to some key aspects of the building and our move. As you will have seen from our monthly updates, the building development is making great progress. It is testament to the construction team: BAM, that the work has stayed on track despite having to cope with Coronavirus and Brexit in the past year. Due to the national restrictions we haven’t been able to visit as much as we would have liked to but BAM have been fantastic at keeping us in touch and providing us with all of the pictures that we have shared with you.

Please do take some time to read through this information with your child. With our new site there will be changes for everyone to get used to. We hope that this guide helps with any questions you may have and any planning you may have to do with travel arrangements.

After having read this information, we would welcome knowing any further questions you may have and invite you to submit these using our online survey. The link for this is included in the email that all parents/carers received. If you have any difficulties in accessing this link, please contact us via [email protected]

We are all really excited about the new facilities that our students and staff will have from September. A huge amount of hard work has gone into ensuring this is ready for us and I would like to finish by offering my thanks and appreciation to all of the staff who have contributed to this. It has been a great example of contributions from BAM, the DfE, the Trust and the school. All working together to provide an excellent site for our students and a fantastic resource for many generations to come.

For many of you, this new building has felt like a long wait! I also thank you for your patience and encouragement over the years. I look forward to welcoming you into the building when time and restrictions allow.

Yours faithfully

Mrs J Brown Headteacher Location

The proposed timings of the school day are shown below. Please note that this assumes we do not have to operate with any Covid related restrictions. If staggered timings and bubbles are still in place in September then we will communicate any changes or adjustments as soon as we have the information.

8.35am All students must be on site

8.40am – 9am Registration & Collective Worship 9am – 9.50am Lesson 1 9.50am – 10.40am Lesson 2 10.40am – 10.55am Break 10.55am – 11.45am Lesson 3 11.45am – 12.35pm Lesson 4 12.35pm – 1.25pm Lunch 1.25pm – 2.15pm Lesson 5 2.15pm – 3.05pm Lesson 6 3.05pm – 4pm Seventh Session*

*The seventh session will include intervention and extra-curricular activities. Students will not be expected to attend this every day. Some activities will be by invitation and some will be by student personal choice.

It is likely that the school gates will be open from 8.15am to facilitate a breakfast club. This club is not likely to be available in the first week as we adjust to the new building and facilities. We will provide more details nearer to the time.

The site will not be open to any students prior to 8.15am and we ask that for those not attending breakfast club, they arrive as close as possible to 8.35am. Induction

Working within our new building will take a little while for everyone to get used to. All staff will have an induction into the building before the students return in September as part of our INSET days.

All students will have a variety of planned induction activities in their first few days in September.

We are hoping to be able to invite parents/carers into the building at some point next academic year. At present we do not know what Covid-restrictions may be in place and we will also need some time for staff and students to settle in at the start of the academic year. We ask that all parents/carers are understanding of this and we ask for your patience in enabling us to plan this aspect in due course.

Term Dates

In order to facilitate our move we have been granted some additional INSET days in order to pack, move and organise the new build. We have kept these to a minimum and attached them to either side of the summer holiday to reduce the impact for families.

We aim to take one INSET day on Thursday 22 July and a further two on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 September.

This means that the final day of this academic year will beWednesday 21 July and all students will return to school on Wednesday 8 September 2021.

Term dates for the whole academic year can be found on our school website under the Information tab: https://www.derbycathedralschool.org.uk/termdates
