Town's growth could be stiVed COUNCILLORS at Frodsham have expressed concern that the town's growth could be stiVed over the next 15 years because of a lack of housing development. West and Council's local development framework - which will eventually become the local plan - has earmarked only 250 additional houses for Frodsham up to 2030. Cllr Andrew Dawson said: "The trouble is, the three sites identiUed don't make sense. The Michaelmas Supper is held every year in the school's formal dining rooms to celebrate the girls' achievements and welcome them to the alumni community. As Queen's alumni, girls not only visit the school regularly to pass on their knowledge and experience to younger pupils and girls about to start at university, but also receive lifelong career advice themselves. They also beneUt from the extensive and diverse alumni community which meets both socially and professionally and they keep in touch with developments at the school through regular newsletters. This year the girls had the best A Level results in Cheshire, gaining a staggering 95% of grades at A*-B and 70% at A*- A. Headmistress Sarah Clark said: "The girls did so well this year and I'm very proud of their achievements. I wish them all luck in their chosen university course or career path and I'm looking forward to hearing about their experiences and successes in future years."

Council says no to marshland take-over AN unpopulated piece of marshland on Frodsham's boundary is up for grabs - but the Town Council has decided not to bid for it. The block of land is on Ince Marshes, and also borders on several other parishes. It has become available for "perishing" - and Town Council chairman Mark Warren admits there could be some advantages in it becoming part of Frodsham. He said: "The Ince Resource Recovery Park is to be built in the immediate vicinity and this will be a major source of employment, putting demands on neighbouring housing stocks, accommodation and services. "Frodsham will undoubtedly beneUt from a slice of all this anyway, but in the long term aspects of sustainability, potential cycle routes and administrative ease, extending the parish in this direction would be logical. "Also, the potential for future development - such as the Wind Farm - can't be ignored. "When large organisations disperse funds to neighbourhood communities, the fewer administrative barriers the better." But Cllr Andrew Dawson said he would not favour the land becoming part of Frodsham and would be loath to have a dispute with neighbouring parishes over it. He said: "They are called Ince Marshes and lie to the west of Frodsham's historic boundary on Frodsham Marshes. "The old Vale Royal Council chose to divide up the entire borough into parishes. The former and borough was only partially parished - they took a different view on perishing. "Had they thought about it I am sure they would have put unpopulated Ince Marshes into Ince Parish. "They would also have put the boundary in the middle of the Mersey, as our northern boundary is." The council decided to take no action on the matter. Cllr Warren commented: "If Elton or Ince want to thrash it out between themselves, let them go for it." Temporary bridge may be erected A TEMPORARY bridge may be erected alongside Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge while essential repair work is carried out. Cllr Andrew Dawson told Frodsham Town Council: "There is a 70 per cent chance that a second, temporary bridge can be provided." Work is expected to start in June next year and is expected to take about 12 months. But if a second bridge can be provided it would enable the swing bridge to be closed to road trafUc, which would mean the repairs might be completed more speedily. Cost of the project might also be reduced. The bridge, which carries the A56 over the Weaver Navigation, is in a deteriorating condition and urgently requires renovation. Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWC) and the Canal and Rivers Trust - formerly British Waterways - will carry out the work, with the bulk of funding coming from CWC. Update from the Chairman Saturday 22nd September Frodsham was the ‘Future of Frodsham’ consultation organised by the Frodsham Foundation at the goods shed in the railway station car park. The sun shone and it was Policy and Process pleasing to see a steady footfall of local residents keen to have a say in the future of our town. As the old saying goes, time is money, and the Change doesn’t happen overnight, and in times of austerity no one organisation can be expected to Policy and Process Committee has been looking go it alone. Last year Frodsham Town Council embarked on a scheme of local gritting whereby volunteers from the community were supplied with bags of grit to spread on areas not normally treated by the local Authority. Overall, the gritting was a success but of course subject to the fine tuning any new scheme of this sort needs. We had an exceptionally mild winter so the process hasn’t been fully stress tested yet and there are still many unused grit sacks in the community. The merger could also involve the neighbouring parish of Aston, which does not have a parish council, but only an annual parish meeting. No decisions have yet been taken, but Cllr Mike Pusey, chairman of Sutton Weaver Parish Council, has said he personally would not be opposed to such an amalgamation. A merger would be possible following a community governance review currently being carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWC). There are currently 162 civil parishes across the borough, but only 98 have town or parish councils. A third of the population lives in un-parished areas. CWC is consulting widely, with residents and town and parish councils, to see if changes can be made that would be in the interests of local people. Cllr Pusey attended a meeting of Frodsham Town Council to express concern over rumours that Frodsham was interested in taking over the area of Sutton Weaver between the Weaver and Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge. He said: "We are opposed to this - if we are to remain an independent parish we would like to stay as we are. But I personally would not be adverse to an amalgamation, taking in Aston as well. "You would get the piece of land you want - but take the rest of us as well." Cllr Pusey said Sutton Weaver would obviously want representation on a new, enlarged Town Council and suggested two additional councillors representing a Sutton Weaver ward. He pointed out that Sutton Weaver residents already had Frodsham telephone numbers and part of the parish had a WA6 Frodsham post code. They had been campaigning for the whole parish to have a WA6 postcode for some time. Cllr Lynn Riley said: "It could be a fabulous opportunity for both councils and we might be able to sort out the post codes." Cllr Darren Kelly said: "We have always complained about not having a strong enough voice in CWC - this could give us a stronger voice." Cllr Ruth Redhead added: "It would be good to join up, but only if Sutton Weaver want to - we should not be bullies." It was agreed to hold joint talks between the two councils. Town needs visitors - who will stay longer NEARLY 80 per cent of local people believe Frodsham needs more events and local produce markets to attract visitors from out of town. This was the conclusion of the "Future of Frodsham" consultation meeting organised by Frodsham Foundation - the new company backed by Cheshire West and Chester Council, Frodsham Town Council and Love Frodsham to promote innovation and enterprise within business and the community. The event was held at the Goods Shed, in the town centre, because the landmark building's future is uncertain. More than 80 per cent of people attending the meeting said the Goods Shed should be used to support local producers and businesses and nearly 90 per cent said it should not just be sold to the highest bidder. The consultation showed that Frodsham residents love their town but are concerned about its future. Independent shops are popular - but many people felt the mix of shops was not as good as it might be. They also wanted to see more visitors who would stay longer and there was strong support for an affordable lodge for walkers and cyclists. More than 50 per cent of people agreed that the town centre was not an ideal location for the waste recycling centre at the station car park - but 37 per cent thought it was ideally placed. Car parking was, surprisingly, not seen as much of a problem. Only 30 per cent of people said parking on a Thursday - market day - presented difUculties and even fewer had a problem on other days. But the volume of trafUc was a major issue for people and safe walking and cycling routes to school were given a high priority. Foundation director Kate Dodgson said: "It was great to see so many people getting involved. There is a lot of agreement about what needs to be done and also what needs to be protected." Frodsham Foundation is a company limited by guarantee. There are no shareholders so any proUts made on any activity will be re-invested in Frodsham. Motoring World's Urst plug-in hybrid SUV

MITSUBISHI are hailing their new Outlander PHEV as the world's Urst plug-in hybrid SUV. It offers the best of three worlds - the environmental performance of an electric vehicle (EV), the cruising range of a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, and the on and off road performance of an SUV. Using the plug-in hybrid EV system powertrain developed by Mitsubishi and derived from its line-up of all-electric models, the vehicle is due to be available some time next year. The PHEV is, however, based on the Outlander, which made its debut in Russia in July and is being introduced in other European markets around now. It uses electrical power stored in the drive battery by charging either at home, a charging station or when the system recovers energy when decelerating. It aims to achieve more than 61km per litre and a cruising range in excess of 880 km, which is on a par with a conventional ICE-powered car.
