For the opening weekend of the season, Ginetta GT5 Challenge competitors will be sharing the track with the GRDC+ class made up of road legal race cars, with the majority of drivers graduating from the entry-level Ginetta Racing Drivers Club. Ruth Harrison looks at the grid. Leading the way, twice Vice-Champion Ollie Chadwick returns with Xentek Motorsport and has his sights firmly set on taking the title this year. He will be joined at the team by returning driver Alexis Taylor and series newcomer Jac Constable, as well as GRDC+ racer Richard Smith. Reigning Driver and Team Champions TCR will hope to be leading the pack once again this season as they arrive with returning driver Ian Robinson, Ginetta Junior graduate Matt Chapman and GRDC alumni Dan Collinson. They’ll face competition from the newly-rebranded Got Boost racing, which has Nick Zapolski and Jack Minshaw in their midst. Over at R & J Motorsport, 2015 race winner Ryan Hadfield is joined on the grid by a second Junior graduate, his younger brother Jonathan. Matt Palmer (Privateer) and Glen Broster (ABG Motorsport) each return for a full-season campaign, whilst Andy Marshall returns to the Optimum Motorsport collective. BTCC outfit, Power Maxed Racing are set to make their GT5 debut this season as they run Brayden Fletcher (younger brother of Emmerdale star and BTCC driver Kelvin) in his inaugural year. Meanwhile, 2012 G20 Champion Matt Flowers, along with his former G20 rivals, Jonny Greenwood (Team Apache) and Mark Davenport (Reflex Racing), return following short breaks from the series. Whilst outgoing GRDC+ champion Rob Keogh steps up to the main championship, the battle to be his successor is set to be a close one as GRDC graduates join second-year racers in the GRDC+ class. The man to beat is Adrian Campbell- Smith, who utterly dominated the rookie series last season and looks to maintain his winning streak as he progresses into GRDC+. Aiming for strength in numbers, Campbell-Smith joins last year’s GRDC+ title-winning team, want2race, alongside his four teammates, Paul Garstang, Mike Jarvis, Paul Oliphant and Richard Elliker. They need to keep an eye on new kids on the block, Quattro Motorsport, who will be hoping to give them a run for their money as they step up with Team Boss Richard Evans, Colin Plumb and Simon Walker. Another new team set up by a GRDC collective is Shawn Flemming’s SF Racing, he will run his own car, along with that of Brian Ellory, Chris Babington and Guy Redwood. British GT race winners, Fox Motorsport bring their knowledge to the GRDC+ paddock as they mentor Stefan Nadarajan and Gary Wager. SVG return with Phil McGarty, whilst Richardson Racing make a return to the Ginetta family with a G40 for newcomer Alex Toth-Jones. Going it alone are year one graduates Roy Perkins and Mark Cundy as well as second year driver Keith Sinclair. With an absolutely jam-packed grid, the trio of Ginetta support races are certainly not ones to be missed as the action gets underway here in Kent. Make sure you never miss a minute by following @GinettaCars on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. BRITISH GT CHAMPIONSHIP ENTRY LIST RACES: 9 + 14 / DURATION: 2 X 60 MINS TECH SPEC NO.
