NOTE TO THE DEPUTY SECRETARY-GENERAL

ICTY

Ms. Carla Del Ponte's senior adviser called me moments ago to discuss other matters. I took the opportunity to inquire about the substance of the attached Washington Post article which I referred to in our meeting with you this morning. The adviser says that Ms. Del Ponte had no immediate plans to go to Belgrade, although she would eventually want to do that when things settle down in FRY. She would want to undertake such a visit, among other things, to re-establish dialogue with FRY authorities, discuss matters concerning the handing over of indictees and seek the assistance of the authorities regarding collection of evidence in FRY. With regard to information on bank accounts in , the adviser (who is constrained to discuss such matters on the phone) basically denied the thrust of the article on this point.

Thank you.
