Arts on TR aCk 22 Jan 2015 Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Round 14 Now Open for Applications The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) supports professional and emerging professional artists and arts practitioners living in regional Queensland and is a Queensland Government partnership through Arts Queensland and TRC to support local arts and culture. Tablelands Regional Council presents Round 14 of the RADF program, announcing that applications are now open for grants until Tuesday 31 March 2015 . It is a requirement of the TRC RADF program that you contact the RADF Liaison Officer, on 4089 2305 prior to submitting your application. Failure to do so may affect your eligibility for funding. Budget preparation and planning advice is available free of charge. Contact the Regional Arts Officer at [email protected] To get guidelines and forms for a RADF grant, go to http://www.trc.qld.gov.au/lifestyle-activities/regional-arts -development-fund/ RADF Supports Children’s Art Clubs & Youth Groups The Herberton Children’s Art Club sought and were successful, together with the Atherton Children’s Art Club, in receiving a RADF grant to support the establishment of their clubs through creative projects in the second half of 2014. The results of the Atherton group are currently on the walls of the Foyer Gallery in Atherton. The Herberton group were given permission to do a mural on the 5 Star Supermarket wall in the heart of Herberton. (pictured left) They commissioned local artist Ken Devine to tutor the local kids for the mural. Ken is also mak- ing a concrete sculpture with the kids as part of this project. The mural involves Herberton history and is due for completion this month. The Tablelands Youth Movement completed their mosa- ics and painting for the “Sitting Proud” RADF funded project. This project has allowed all youth involved and two youth facilitators to learn new art skills and have a positive impact on the town of Malanda. You can view the artwork on English St. Malanda. Dr Kate Costigan and Flo Bridger are Brisbane-based writers offering workshops for aspiring, emerging and established creative writers. Individuals and groups of all ages and experience are welcomed. The work- shops are provided in rural and regional areas. They cover a wide range of genres and include writing and editing skills; identification and development of writers’ networks and strategies for promotion, sales and successful publication. Their workshops are tailored to meet the needs and interests of local participants and include writing poetry, short stories, novels and song. Kate and Flo’s next weekend workshop is on the 7th and 8th March, 2015, at the CWA Hall in Yungaburra . This event is supported by the Tablelands Regional Council’s, Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), the Yungaburra Association, and the University of the Third Age. Kate and Flo’s most recent RADF spon- sored workshop was held in Roma and received overwhelmingly positive feedback. To book your place contact Kate at [email protected] or Ph: 0400 000 968 February Exhibitions: Tableland Regional Gallery presents “UNDER THE RUG” A solo exhibition of new work by quilt maker Jan Stroud. Searching for a creative outlet when her children were educated, Jan found patchwork and her artistry began its rapid rise. She began with traditional forms and moved quickly into modern and textural pieces. Her enthusiasm engendered excite- ment in others and she began a career in tutoring. Attending national quilt conventions allowed her to bring new techniques and ideas back to the Far North Queensland region. Jan continues to share these ideas and tech- niques with anyone wanting to learn. For application form please go to: http://www.trc.qld.gov.au/lifestyle-activities/regional-art-galleries/ Call For Expressions of Interest To Deliver Photography Project Mareeba Shire Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the facilitation of photography work- shops to be delivered across Mareeba, Tablelands and Etheridge Council regions commencing around May 2015. The successful applicant/s will be required to have prior experience running group photography workshops. It is not a requirement for any particular applicant to cover all three regions, although this will be considered. The aim of this Regional Arts Development Fund strategic project will be using photography to tell a story, and it is anticipated that this may result in a small exhibition(s) . The closing date for receipt of EOI is 5pm Fri 20 Feb 2015 Ideas pool – to all Wet Tropics and especially Tableland artists and people with the enthusiasm and desire to bring to fruition a community project; local artist Michael Koren is seeking to discuss the possibil- ity of developing an artist’s community on privately owned land, with a view to creating a place for events, workshops, exhibitions, artist in residence programs or exchanges, plus organic gardens, energy efficiency and community spaces—all sorts of great ideas. (pictured) This little girl was so cute but didn’t crack a smile when he drew a picture of her. Everyone else cackled and carried on as the eyes and mouth on the picture moved. She was delighted though when Danny gave her a balloon animal he had made. The ship wreck Cairns artist, Jenny Glaze is currently exhibiting " SS MAHENO " Was a hospital Ship, for N.Z. Armed at the Cairns Casino. As part of that exhibition Forces at Gallipoli. she has been raising funds for the SES.
