  • Maurice GARIN

  • Tour De France
Tour de France The Tour de France is the world’s most famous, and arguably the hardest, cycling race. It takes place every year and lasts for a total of three weeks, covering almost 3,500km. History of the Race During the late 19th century, cycling became a popular hobby for many people. As time went on, organised bike races were introduced and professional cycling became very popular in France. On 6th July 1903, 60 cyclists set off on a race and covered 2,428km in a circular route over six stages. 18 days after setting off, 21 of the original 60 cyclists made it back to the finish line in Paris. The winner was Maurice Garin and the Tour de France was born. Except for war time, the race has taken place every year since then and has become more challenging with the addition of mountain climbs and longer distances. The Modern Tour de France Each year, the tour begins in a different country. The route changes annually too, though usually finishes on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. In 2019, the race starts in Brussels, Belgium on the 6th July and ends in Paris on the 28th July after 21 stages totalling a distance of 3,460km. There are 22 teams taking part in the Tour de France, each with eight riders. The reigning champion is Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas. TUESDAY, JULY 28, 2015 SPORTS Froome and Quintana set for epic Tour rivalry Busch grabs elusive Indy victory INDIANAPOLIS: There was no celebratory burnout - Kyle Busch has done plenty of those the last few weeks - just another big, fat kiss at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Busch’s triumphant return following a horrible crash the day before the season-opening Daytona 500 continued Sunday with one of the biggest wins of his career. He grabbed an elusive victory at Indy, where Busch won the Brickyard 400 for a weekend sweep at the historic track. Busch missed the first 11 races of the season with a broken right leg and broken left foot. He returned in late May and has won three consecutive Sprint Cup Series races and four of the last five. His latest win was celebrated with the traditional kissing of the Yard of Bricks, where he was accompanied by his wife and son, who was born in May. “Being away for 11 weeks, it was tough. It was pretty hard times,” Busch said. “It was tough to fight through all those things that I had to go through, Samantha had to go through while she was pregnant. She was helping me. All the steps that we went through to get back into the race car were quite challenging. “But once we’ve been back, I felt like I just continued right on my stride. This has been a phenome- nal return. I won’t say phenomenal year because it was a dismal year to start, but I guess I’ll take that 11-week vacation any year if it’s going to look like this.” Now he has a prestigious Brickyard victory to give him one of NASCAR’s elusive crown jewels.

  • 'Tour De France' 1903
Unusual and little-known Tales from the ‘Tour de France’ 1903 – 1947 With Barrington Day The line between insanity and genius is said to be a fine one, and in early 20th century France, anyone envisaging a near 2,500km cycle race around the country would have been widely viewed as unhinged. But that didn’t stop Géo Lefèvre, a journalist with L’Auto magazine at the time, from proceeding with his inspired plan. His editor, Henri Desgrange, was bold enough to believe in the idea and to throw his backing behind the Tour de France. So, on 1st July 1903, sixty pioneers set out on their bicycles from Montgeron. After six mammoth stages (Nantes - Paris, 471 km!), only 21 “routiers”, led by Maurice Garin, arrived at the end of this first epic. Having provoked a mixture of astonishment and admiration, le Tour soon won over the sporting public and the roadside crowds swelled. The French people took to their hearts this Tour Founder - Henri Desgrange unusual event which placed their towns, their countryside, and since 1910, even their mountains, in the spotlight. Le Tour has always moved with the times. Like France as a whole, it benefited from the introduction of paid holidays from 1936; it has lived through wars, and then savoured the “trente glorieuses” period of economic prosperity while enjoying the heydays of Coppi, Bobet, Anquetil and Poulidor. It has opened itself up to foreign countries with the onset of globalisation. Over a hundred years after its inception, le Tour continues to gain strength from its experience.

  • What Is the Tour De France?
What Is The Tour de France? The Tour de France is one of the world’s largest annual bicycle events. Held each July and lasting for 3 weeks, it covers more than 3,300km of flat, hilly and mountainous terrain across France and neighbouring countries. The race started in 1903 and this year will be the 106th race. The overall winner of the race is the cyclist who has ridden the whole route in the lowest accumulated time. The route for the Tour de France changes every year, but usually finishes at the Champs-Élysées in Paris, as it has done every year since 1975. What Is The Tour de France? Each day, the winner is awarded a coloured jersey to wear for the next stage. It’s fun to spot all the jerseys! In 2019, each jersey will have a different design, including images of landscapes, buildings and past race winners The History of the Race During the late 19th century, cycling became a very popular hobby for many people. As time went on, organised bike racing was introduced and professional cycling became especially popular in France. Sports papers such as ‘Le Vélo’ sprung up to cover cycling stories in depth. ‘L’Auto’ was a smaller rival paper, which was desperate to increase popularity so one of its journalists, Géo Lefévre, proposed the idea of organising a big cycle race through France. The History of the Race On the 1st July 1903, 60 cyclists set off from the Au Reveil Matin Café in the suburbs of Paris. They covered 2,428km in a circular route through six stages.

  • En Tour De France Vinder Vender Hjem…
En Tour de France vinder vender hjem… Carlos Sastre deltager igen i Cykelstafetten Spar Nord og Carlos Sastre Classic d. 2. September i Rebild. September i Rebild”.
