It has reduced travel time and travel cost. We intend to research the possibility of unmanned metro stations through the application of artificial intelligence, one of which is expert systems. Expert systems –that are able to hold the accumulated knowledge of different domain experts can be implemented to guide the commuter about the optimum travel route.

  • A Metro Station Or Subway Station Is a Railway Station for a Rapid Transit System, Often Known by Names Such As "Metro", "Underground" and "Subway"
A metro station or subway station is a railway station for a rapid transit system, often known by names such as "metro", "underground" and "subway". Some metro systems, such as those of Montreal, Stockholm, Prague and Moscow, are famous for the beautiful architecture and public art. The Paris Métro is famous for its art nouveau station entrances; while the Athens Metro is known for its display of archeological relics , Sir Norman Foster's new system in Bilbao, Spain uses the same modern architecture at every station to make navigation easier for the passenger, though some may argue that this is at the expense of character. In some stations, especially where trains are fully automated, the entire platform is screened from the track by a wall, typically of glass, with automatic platform-edge doors (PEDs). These open, like elevator doors, only when a train is stopped, and thus eliminate the hazard that a passenger will accidentally fall (or deliberately jump) onto the tracks and be run over or electrocuted. The largest metro station in the world is the Paris Métro-RER station Châtelet-Les Halles in France[1]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Locale National Capital Region, India Transit type Rapid transit Number of 6 lines [1][2] Number of 132 stations Daily 1.5 million[3][4] ridership Chief E. This report is based on the safety audits done from June 2015 for 17 metro stations of the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro. These stations were selected on the basis of their footfall and further connectivity options.. The study reveals the shortfalls in the public transportation system of Delhi and suggests recommendations to better integrate the Metro with other modes of travel. The audits were carried out using the SafetiPin App. SafetiPin, is a map-based mobile phone application, which works to make communities and cities safer by providing safety- related information collected by users and by trained auditors. At the core of the app is the Women’s Safety Audit. A Women’s Safety Audit (WSA) is a participatory tool for collecting and assessing information about perceptions of urban safety in public spaces.

  • The Delhi Metro and Disability a Delhi Modern
Akshay Raghupathy Amaan Shreyas M.A. (F), Department of Sociology Delhi School of Economics University of Delhi The Delhi Metro and Disability A Delhi Modern The Mass Rapid Transit System known as the Delhi Metro transports roughly 27 Lakh commuters on a daily basis and has found itself etched into the complex everyday rhythms of the city for a decade now. With its air-conditioning, hissing doors, frequent and punctual trains, the Delhi Metro stands in stark contrast with other forms of public transport that move bodies inside the city, thereby it has spawned a hitherto unknown interface of the mobile body and its medium. This study finds itself emerging from a piqued curiosity towards the movement of a particular kind of body whose transmission within the city is made possible by the metro in an unprecedented manner. We seek to understand the modes and strategies used by individuals who are visually impaired and orthopedically challenged to mediate the notion of barrier free mobility, as a specific kind of mobility produced by the Delhi Metro network through its infrastructure and discourse. This study aims to carve out barrier-free mobility as a conceptual object that emerges through a set of practices with their own unique syntax and grammar. We arrive at this understanding of barrier-free mobility through the recollected experiences of our interviewees (interviewed in the months of May and June), which are read in the context of the possibilities afforded to them by the material infrastructure of the Delhi Metro. Our analysis seeks to frame barrier-free mobility in a complex of practices, which invokes relationships with safety, performance and cost to constitute different discourses on the nature of the disability- friendliness of the Delhi Metro.

  • Comparative Appraisal of Metro Stations in Delhi Using Data Envelopment Analysis in a Multimodal Context
Comparative Appraisal of Metro Stations in Delhi Using Data Envelopment Analysis in a Multimodal Context Mansha Swami, Manoranjan Parida IIT–Roorkee Abstract Urban public transit is a critical component for sustainable urban development and is crucial to multisector expansion of a developing economy. Continuous monitoring of infrastructure performance and assessment of its effectiveness are required to continually improve service quality. The urban agglomeration of Delhi, India, was studied for the efficacy of its multimodal urban public transit system. The toolkit used was Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a linear optimization technique that estimates relative efficiencies of its decision making units (DMUs) for a multitude of inputs and outputs. The study area includes the Red and Yellow lines of the Delhi Metro network. Commuter- based questionnaires were used to collect 1,328 valid responses about demographic, travel time, and quality perception parameters, which were analyzed, and relative rankings of the DMUs were evaluated. The efficiency was analyzed according to the Red and Yellow lines divided into seven corridor segments and individual stations. Results revealed efficiency scores and inefficiency slacks for which improvement strategies are proposed. Keywords: Data Envelopment Analysis, Decision Making Units, DMU, slack values, projected values, multimodal transit, efficiency evaluation Introduction The urbanscape of developing countries is struggling with the ever-emerging demands of growing population and infrastructure. With economic growth, the responsibility of a city increases in delivery of services to its citizens. The deterioration in Indian public transport is more prevalent in metropolitan cities, in which the increase in the number of motorized vehicles is huge. Delhi constitutes nearly 7% of all motor vehicles in India but accommodates only 1.4% of the Indian population (Singh 2005).
