PUGH Cheshire Rugby Football Union A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Now that the r:,IIiliennium has arrived let us wish the players in our County teams as memorable a time on the rugby pitch as off it and hope that the County XV will go one better than the semi-final place they so splendidly achieved last season, and become champions again. We are very fortunate in Cheshire to have such an experienced team of officiais looking after ail our representative teams from the Schools to the County team, enabling many to achieve their ambition of playing for Cheshire and bringing credit to themselves and to their Clubs. My thanks go to ail the Clubs in the County who go to such great lengths to provide the best possible facilities for our games to be played under with such generous hospitality and the match officiais without which the games could not take place. Denis Palin Sportswear have generously sponsored the County strips for several years and hope that this arrangement will continue, to our mutual benefit. Above ail, enjoy the comradeship and life long friendships made through playing the best team game in the world Dave Wright, President, Cheshire Rugby Football Union Cheshire Rugby Football Union CHAIRMAN'S COMMENTS It gives me great pleasure to welcome the Yorkshire team and officiais, together with ail Iheir supporters, to Macclesfield Rugby Club today for what should be an entertaining final day in the divisional round of the Tetleys Biller U20 Championship. Macclesfield R.U.F.C. have always been excellent supporters of the County's youth policy and 1thank them for allowing us the use of their excellent facilities this afternoon . Yorkshire arrive unbeaten and effectively already crowned champions of the North. They always play an expansive and exciting style of rugby which is always a pleasure to watch and this season have rallied up a sizeable total of points for column . Following a lacklustre perfonmance, and resulting defeat against Lancashire (and their South Sea dependencies) Cheshire need to win today to qualify for the quarter finals of the Championship. Recent games between the counties at both Under 19 and Under 21 have been extremely close affairs with honours about even , so 1expect this first meeting at U20 will be no exception. Yorkshire support is renowned for being vociferous, so 1 would like to take this opportunity to cali on the Cheshire supporters to win the baille of touchline volume and encourage the Cheshire team to perfonm of their best and book a place alongside Yorkshire in the knockout stages. Good luck to both teams and enjoy the day. LANCASHIRE COUNTY RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION ANNUAL REPORT 2017-18 THE SECRETARY’S OPENING REMARKS Firstly I have to thank the President, Steve Blackburn. Steve has done tremendous work over the year in travelling around clubs and representing the County. A truly approachable gentleman who has brought his own distinct sense of humour to the office. A lot of my Monday mornings have included a phone call from Steve starting with the phrase “I think I may have got away with it but……”. Needless to say the tales have me in stitches. As well as his Presidential duties he is an active member of the Disciplinary and Club & Community Committees which means he’s constantly on the go with his County missionary work. Steve has the huge support of his wife Val, who is also involved on the Mini & Junior committee. A couple entrenched in rugby and its administration, thank you both. To Rugby matters, Our Senior XV have reached the final and other reports in this booklet will cover how they got there, at the time of printing we are in the run up to the final at Twickenham against Hertfordshire whom we were runners up to in the final of the 2011-2012 season. Thanks to Mark Nelson, Steve Rigby, John Greenwood and all the backroom team, along with players who give up their time at the end of very busy seasons to support senior Rugby in Lancashire. Its an absolute joy to be involved in this side of County rugby and one which I look forward to each season.

  • Lancashire County Rugby Football Union Annual Report 2018-19
LANCASHIRE COUNTY RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION ANNUAL REPORT 2018-19 THE SECRETARY’S OPENING REMARKS As ever my first job is to thank our President for the great work he has done this season. Dave Clarke has been unfailing in his club visits and is a true supporter of Rugby. He has been instrumental in the formation of the ADM Lancashire Leagues which has helped many of our clubs play more local matches. This has seen a number of players staying within the game. With the frequency of his more than daily telephone calls to discuss some issue in the game my children now do a very good impression of the Ginger Ninja from Wigan. Both Dave and myself are indebted to Mrs President, Anne. As well as being his secretary, Anne has deputised for me in meetings and acted as the minutes secretary in our general meetings. Thank you both. To Rugby, both our Senior Mens and Womens XVs failed to reach their finals which was not for want of trying, all our representative players should be thanks for the effort they put in to pulling on the Red & White hoops at the end of a long tiring club season. We will be back. Thanks to Mark Nelson, Steve Rigby, John Greenwood and all the backroom team who work hard to provide these opportunities. Our 20s team did make their day out in Twickenham where they went down to a very strong Yorkshire team, I’m sure we will be seeing more of these lads progressing through to our Senior XV and more success in County Rugby.
