Walton | Chicago International Film Festival [email protected] | 312-399-8206 Alejandro Riera | Chicago International Film Festival [email protected] | 773-726-1833 THE 56TH CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES DEDE GARDNER AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR INDUSTRY DAYS Celebrated Screenwriter John Logan, Award-Winning Composer Terence Blanchard, and Producer Effie Brown Will Also Participate in the Virtual Industry Days Conference October 14-18, 2020 CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago International Film Festival, presented by Cinema/Chicago, today announced this year’s Industry Keynote conversation with Academy Award®-winning producer and president of Plan B Entertainment Dede Gardner, whose credits include 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight, both presented at past editions of the Festival. Additionally, Industry Days will host master classes with Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter John Logan (Skyfall, Penny Dreadful, Hugo) and six-time Grammy-winner and Oscar-nominated trumpeter/ composer Terence Blanchard (BlacKkKlansman, Da 5 Bloods, One Night in Miami), along with a one-on-one conversation with trailblazing producer and CEO of Gamechanger Films Effie Brown (Dear White People). The conference and all conversations will be livestreamed and feature an interactive component, and will run October 14-18, 2020. Then, Covid-19 hit the world economy like a meteorite. The sudden stop of economic activity around the globe will batter insurance demand, too: Global premium income is expected to shrink by -3.8% in 2020 (life: -4.4%, P&C: -2.9%), three times the pace wit- nessed during the Global Financial Crisis. Eve accidentally shoots Bond who falls into the river and is believed to be dead. A few months later, there is an attack against the MI6. In the meantime,James Bond who is not dead, decides to return to London. When the MI6 is threatened his mission leads him to a former agent named Silva. He is determined to kill M for high treason. Bond and M hide in Bond’s family manor in Scotland. Silva finds their tracks. James Bond kills him. Later, M dies from her wounds. In 2013, the film "Skyfall" won a BAFTA Award for best British film. The same year, the singer Adèle won an Oscar for the best song . Daniel Craig is the greatest actor in Britain. He is so talented. I'm crazy about him. The film knows an international success. Léa Courbe « Edward Scissorhands » is my favourite film. It vas directed and produced by Tim Burton, who is the best director in the world but he has got crazy ideas!     LOCKDOWN and LIFE but not as we know it It has long been argued that humans are intrinsically selfish, prone to be territorial and war-like and that these instincts are what helped us, along with our super-large brains to become the earth’s dominant species. However, over the last 50 years this theory has increasingly been questioned and the counter theory has gained ground that humans are actually distinguished from other species, not by their selfishness or intelligence but by their ability to cooperate and learn from and help each other. I heartily recommend ‘Humankind’ by Rutger Bregman if you are interested in this. This has come into focus for me recently because the capacity of people around the world to be selfless, to support others, especially the most vulnerable and to be self- sacrificing has shone through during the current Covid-19 crisis and even the BLM controversy. For every selfish or despicable act that is highlighted in the media we can all point to people who behave in exactly the opposite way. We can see this in the people working in care homes and hospitals; volunteers helping their local community; technology teachers making PPE or people like Marcus Rashford, using his platform as a famous footballer to speak out on behalf of the powerless. This is equally true of our school community. I am full of admiration for the way that we have pulled together, students, families and staff, to make the best of this situation. As we start to see more students in school it is increasingly clear how important human interaction is to our well-being and our capacity to learn.

To reach those necessary goals, we strategically use an array of interconnected channels and platforms to transform not only the media landscape but also a cul- ture in which women’s and girls’ voices, stories, experiences, and images are nei- ther suffciently amplifed nor placed on par with the voices, stories, experiences, and images of men and boys.     Ayana McNair Avant-Garde Cinema CTCS 518, David James Fall 2004 12.09.04 Spike Lee: Avant-Garde Filmmaker Spike Lee came into mainstream consciousness with 1986’s She’s Gotta Have It. Since then, he has enjoyed a long and illustrious career as a filmmaker, writing, directing, producing, and starring in several very successful pictures that have highlighted some aspect of Black life in America. Films such as Do the Right Thing, School Daze, Jungle Fever, Bamboozled, and Malcolm X have catapulted Spike Lee into international stardom, making him one of the most, if not the most, notorious Black filmmakers of today. Arguably, he has reached the status of cultural icon in this country, evidenced by a parody of him on “The Simpsons”; as we know, an appearance on “The Simpsons” is the true sign that you’ve “made it.” Spike Lee’s films typically explore some issue prevalent in the Black community. Spike Lee’s rise to fame can be attributed to his bold and daring manner of dealing with issues previously unexplored in the mainstream. She’s Gotta Have It, his debut feature, explored intraracial dating, female promiscuity, and sexual power relations. ‘88’s School Daze again looked at intraracial relations, this time bringing to light the topic of skin tone and color bias within the Black community (that is, light-skinned Blacks versus dark-skinned) and the deep-seated tensions surrounding this issue. 1991 saw the release of Jungle A. McNair 1 Fever, the film that, arguably, catapulted Wesley Snipes and Samuel L. Jackson to stardom; in Jungle Fever, we got Spike Lee’s take on, this time, interracial dating, between a Black man and a white woman, and the tension surrounding such relationships.
