Here is creator Carl Hansen’s take on his team’s special day: “I got to the Universal Studios Gate 2 just on time after navigating Los Angeles traffic from dropping my son off at preschool. The security guard told me where to park and I drove in. I apparently passed the parking lot where I was supposed to go and ended up going up a big hill that’s used on the official Tram tours, oops. So I turned around and Jeff Cafuir, director of Community Investment at NBCUniversal, was waiting for me as I pulled in. After exchanging hellos he walked me briskly to an executive building and we proceeded to the top floor reception desk, marked by “Universal Pictures” in large letters around the front. I promptly had to take a photo of the desk because my first paid job at the tender age of 14 was on the movie, “Housesitter” (starring Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn) which had been distributed by Universal Pictures - it felt very full-circle. Washington, D.C. 20036 (202) 962-0054 I. INTRODUCTION The National Association of Theatre Owners (“NATO”) respectfully submits the following comments in response to the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division’s (the “Department”) announced intentions to review the Paramount Consent Decrees (the “Decrees”). Individual motion picture theater companies may comment on the five various provisions of the Decrees but NATO’s comment will focus on one seminal provision of the Decrees. Specifically, NATO urges the Department to maintain the prohibition on block booking, as that prohibition undoubtedly continues to support pro-competitive practices. NATO is the largest motion picture exhibition trade organization in the world, representing more than 33,000 movie screens in all 50 states, and additional cinemas in 96 countries worldwide. Our membership includes the largest cinema chains in the world and hundreds of independent theater owners. NATO and its members have a significant interest in preserving an open marketplace in the North American film industry. North America remains the biggest film-going market in the world: It accounts for roughly 30% of global revenue from only 5% of the global population. The strength of the American movie industry depends on the availability of a wide assortment of films catering to the varied tastes of moviegoers. Indeed, both global blockbusters and low- budget independent fare are necessary to the financial vitality and reputation of the American film industry.

The curriculum will include practice in close reading/explication of selected poems. The course will be taught in a partially synchronous distance learning mode, using SJSU’s Canvas and Zoom platforms, with weekly Monday Zoom class meetings, 7:00 – 8:15 p.m. The course may be taken two times for credit (toward an MA or MFA degree).
