Notre dernier colloque se tenait il y a 10 ans à Paris en 1999, 10 ans c’est long, 10 ans c’est très loin. Il fallait que la SFO renoue avec cette traditionnelle organisation de colloques, manifestation qui a contribué à lui accorder la place prépondérante qu’elle occupe au sein des orchidophiles français et de la communauté scientifique. C’est chose faite aujourd’hui. Nombreux sont les thèmes qui font l’objet de communications par des intervenants dont les compétences dans le domaine de l’orchidologie ne sont plus à prouver. -

E-mail: [email protected] The main phytogeographic regions within the eastern part of the Indochinese Peninsula are delimited on the basis of analysis of recent literature on geology, geomorphology and climatology of the region, as well as numerous recent literature information on phytogeography, flora and vegetation. The following six phytogeographic regions (at the rank of floristic province) are distinguished and outlined within eastern Indochina: Sikang-Yunnan Province, South Chinese Province, North Indochinese Province, Central Annamese Province, South Annamese Province and South Indochinese Province. Short descriptions of these floristic units are given along with analysis of their floristic relationships. Special floristic analysis and consideration are given to the Orchidaceae as the largest well-studied representative of the Indochinese flora. 1. Box FM730, Famona, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe Vegetation Survey of Mt Gorongosa, page 2 SUMMARY Mount Gorongosa is a large inselberg almost 700 sq. km in extent in central Mozambique. With a vertical relief of between 900 and 1400 m above the surrounding plain, the highest point is at 1863 m. The mountain consists of a Lower Zone (mainly below 1100 m altitude) containing settlements and over which the natural vegetation cover has been strongly modified by people, and an Upper Zone in which much of the natural vegetation is still well preserved. Both zones are very important to the hydrology of surrounding areas. Immediately adjacent to the mountain lies Gorongosa National Park, one of Mozambique's main conservation areas. A key issue in recent years has been whether and how to incorporate the upper parts of Mount Gorongosa above 700 m altitude into the existing National Park, which is primarily lowland. [These areas were eventually incorporated into the National Park in 2010.] In recent years the unique biodiversity and scenic beauty of Mount Gorongosa have come under severe threat from the destruction of natural vegetation. This is particularly acute as regards moist evergreen forest, the loss of which has accelerated to alarming proportions. -

Tt has been suggested by Dr. Fritz Kranzliu that the species of Dcn~ drochilum which I have assigned to the section Acoridmm ought to constitute a distinct genus. Dr. Kriinzlin asserts that the form of the labellum is quite distinctive in Acoridiuin on account of its likeness to the letter E. When I studied DendrochiluDi tenclhun in the preparation of Fascicle I of ^'^Orchidaceae" I felt strongly that it belonged to a genus entirely distinct from DendrocliUum because of the absence of stelidia from the column and of the peculiar subfiliform leaves. Since then I have been convinced by a study of more material that Acoridiuin belongs to DendrocliiJum. In the first place, the E-formed labellum on which Dr. Kranzlin lays emphasis is only characteristic of a majority of the species of the section Acoridiuin and is not found in D. turpe, D. oligan- fJiun), D. ]ia.'<fatum, I). This article is published with open access at Springerlink.com Abstract A comprehensive study on the orchid diversity in Penang Hill, Penang, Malaysia was conducted from 2004 to 2008 with the objective to evaluate the presence of orchid species listed by Curtis (J Strait Br R Asiat Soc 25:67–173, 1894) after more than 100 years. A total of 85 species were identified during this study, of which 52 are epiphytic or lithophytic and 33 are terrestrial orchids. This study identified 57 species or 64.8% were the same as those recorded by Curtis (1894), and 78 species or 66.1% of Turner’s (Gar- dens’ Bull Singap 47(2):599–620, 1995) checklist of 118 species for the state of Penang including 18 species which were not recorded by Curtis (1894) and the current study but are actually collected from Penang Hill. A comparison table of the current findings against Curtis (1894) and Turner (1995) is provided which shows only 56 species were the same in all three studies. The preferred account for comparison was Curtis’ (1894) list as his report was specifically for the areas around Penang Island especially Penang Hill, Georgetown and Ayer Itam areas. -

The study aimed to record species composition and distribution of orchids in the furtherance of orchid conservation objective in the gazetted conservation area. A total of 95 species and 30 genera were collected from South Rim, Kawang, and Nepenthes trails. The collection consists of 91 epiphytes, two terrestrials, and two mycoheterotrophs. More orchids were found in the riverine than inland areas. Our study on the species composition based on the vegetation types shows that the presence of inconspicuous and achlorophyllous, either mycoheterotrophic or leafless epiphytic orchids, are indicators of the undisturbed vegetation types. Though the finding was preliminary and brief, our encounter of endemic and rare species underlines the importance of Sungai Kangkawat forest area as an orchid biodiversity hotspot. -
Introduction
A PRELIMINARY LIST OF THE ORCHIDS OF KHAO YAI NATIONAL PARK by P.F. CUMJ?ERLEGE AND V.M.S. CUMBEl{LEGI:: Introduction Khao Yai National Park lies in the Provinces of Nakorn Nayok, Prachinburi, Sraburi and Korat, roughly between latitude 14"S ' and 14"1S' North and longitude 101 "S' and 101 "SO' East. The total area is about 2,08S square kilometres. The Park is very roughly a rectangle 80 kms long and 40 kms at the wide3t part, enclosed by the Korat-Kabinburi H.oad on the East, the Korat/Prachinburi Changwad border on the North, the Huay Yai and Huay Muak Lek Rivers on the West and the line of rising ground north of the Hin Kong-Kabinburi Road on the South. The Park consists of forested hills and valleys, from about 4S0- 1400 metres high, with many old clearings at its lower-middle altitudes, i.e. from about 6S0-8SO m. Most of that part of the Park which is nor mally used by visitors lies in the central Khao Yai massif of rolling forest and grassland on either side of the Lam Takrong river. The latter flows across the park from West to East, turning Northwards in a big loop and flowing out of the Park in the direction of Pakchong, to the North-East. The river flows sluggishly for much of its way through the area, but has several waterfalls where the drop is anything up to SO m. There are three highish hills at the sides of the Park, namely Khao Laem to the North-East, Khao Khieow to the South-East, and Khao Sam Yod to the West. -
