The decision to make The Autism Rocks Arena a dry venue; some might say not being able to get quench their thirst at a music event is a bad thing. Thoughts?

Say What?

GET TO THE CHOPPA! For many of us growing up in the 80’s and 90’s Arnold Schwarzenegger was king of the action movie. To coincide with the classic sci-fi flick“Predator” turning 30 years old it is being re-released in to the cinema. This is definitely one of our editors’ favourite movies and the chance to catch it on the big screen is spectacular news. Amid rumours circling regarding the upcoming R rated “The Predators” movie, this is a timely reminder of just how good the franchise is.

PARTY FOR ONE AI seems to be entering our lives at an alarming rate and although it does make our lives somewhat easier at times in this instance this may not be the case. Recently a German user of Amazon’s Alexa device whose unit decided to power on unprompted and throw a house party while the owner was nowhere in the vicinity. What resulted was the AI throwing an unwanted rave in the owners’ home at full volume between the ungodly hours of 1:50am and 3am. The end result was the police storming the apartment to find nobody there. At least when the robots finally take over there will be music playing. 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY FRI, 15TH DECEMBER K LMN DAMIAN LAZARUS

FOR LOUNGE & CABANA RESERVATIONS: +971 54 449 6464 | [email protected] WE LOVE 40 KONG In a city that is dominated by sky scraping buildings it is a given that the city would be jam packed with rooftop bars, and you would be right. Location is everything, well almost everything, the setting and execution needs to be tip top in order to cut it in this thriving market. Nestled high up on the 40th floor of the H Hotel, 40 Kong situated conveniently at One Sheikh Zayed Road, this slick sky bar is one of the few rooftop venues to open in the last few years to really take care and attention to get the smaller details right. From the spectacular panoramic views of Downtown and the Old Town, to the finely tuned sound system that is controlled by some of Dubai’s best DJ’s, to the carefully curated menu and bespoke décor, 40 Kong simply oozes class. As with all great venues, there is many faces to its legions of followers, to some it is the perfect sundown spot for those all- important after work drinks, to some it is the ideal haven to hole up with friends for the night and to some they only come for the stunning food. facebook.com/40kong What we did PARTY MONSTERS @ THE BACKYARD, BUSINESS BAY

A concept that has become popular in the UK and USA is now on our shores, Party Monsters season opener turned out to be a resounding success amongst expat families in the region. With Dance FM’s Jon Besant and Woodle bringing their individual flavours of house and UK garage, andBassworx’s Tigger providing his breakbeat and jungle vibes, both, parents and toddlers seemed to be having a great time getting down on the dance floor. The best part of the event was that it brought families together, with tracks that made parents feel nostalgic, giving them the opportunity to share their love for good music with their little ones. There were also a wide array of activities for the bambinos including an arts and crafts zone, a Stu Williamson Photography booth, a soft play area, Hub Zero arcade stations, a street magician, face painter and balloon bender so parents could get a quick tipple at the bar whilst the kids were kept entertained. With the 9th December Party Monsters Winter WondeRave promising alternative festive fun, including a breakdancing Santa, we can’t wait to see what else they have up their sleeves! Tickets available from platinumlist.net. Words by Wesley Pipes LIAM GALLAGHER @ PARTY IN THE PARK

Arriving onstage with his usual swagger and opening up with “Rock n Roll Star” followed by “Morning Glory”, he instantly engaged the crowd and had them signing their hearts out. With the crowd ready to go off, Liam dropped some of his headline songs from his new album which were not an instant hit with the crowd, but for the die-hard fans they were singing along enjoying the moment over the other punters who didn’t have a clue. The whole crowd picked back up when “Some Might Say” came thundering out of the speakers and were back singing away. Next on his repertoire was more from his new album and when he finished with the more recognisable oasis songs such as cigarettes n alcohol and wonder wall the crowd was left on a high of singing along to tunes that had shaped the younger years. With the start of the Brit pop weekend taking off on Thursday night, Ocean Colour Scene were a great choice of band to play at the Irish Village in Dubai. With nearly 20 years since the release of “Moseley Shoals”, OCS have become synonymous with Nineties Britpop nostalgia and anyone that grew up in that area knows it. The lead man - Steve Cradock blasted straight into “The Riverboat Song”, with its famous riff heralding a full run-through of the album that rocketed them to fame. This Birmingham band might be in vogue at present but the lively crowd filling out The Irish Village and rightly couldn’t care less yelling along to every word of travelling anthem “The Day We Caught The Train” and carpe diem favourite “One For The Road” earn the biggest cheers on the night with pints being triumphantly raised aloft, while Cradock bathes in Guitar Hero worship for his storming solo on “Get Away”. Frontman Simon Fowler’s vocals remain strong and when Cradock closed the gig to ecstatic whoops with another blistering solo on “Hundred Mile High City”, it’s clear that the dedication of their fan base is an enviable blessing. Words by Pablo Walker JUSTICE LEAGUE AT NOVO CINEMAS, IBN BATTUTA

Red carpets always give an exclusive feel and this event was no different as Novo Cinemas literally rolled out the red carpet for media super hero fans. Dubai is known for its 7 star experiences and I was very excited to see the latest edition to Novo Cinema at Ibn Battuta mall. We were all greeted by super friendly staff and shown to our extremely plush red leather seats. The button controls on the left-hand side let you recline fully both foot rest and head rest, which is heaven for watching movies in comfort. The attentive staff soon passed around blankets and everyone was tucked up cozy awaiting their dose of DC Comics. With the collective team of Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman assembled to battle the terrible Steppenwolf, I found the soundtrack to be great, the story line strong, and it brought together our favorite superheroes in a flawless and humorous way. There was a few edge of the seat moments, some romantic moments and of course the epic effects one would expect from a Hollywood superhero movie. Highly recommended. Words by Jai Little JEFF MILLS @ MUTEK AE

Arriving just after midnight, a silhouetted Jeff Mills had already began the process of taking apart the W Hotel Great Room brick by brick and in the process blowing the minds of the crowd at Mutek AE Nocturne 2. With an artist like Jeff Mills, there is no middle ground on what you will hear during one of his sets – ; in its purest form. From the outset, Jeff was pounding away on the Pioneer Pro Audio sound system, squeezing every last drop of frequency from the multitude of decks he had at his disposal and from the hanging array that had been installed by Avante Garde AV. The crowd were lapping up the performance and with every drop, stutter and roll of Jeff’s drum machine the crowd responded in kind with whistles and cheers. When Jeff’s unmistakable seminal “The Bells” made an appearance the cheers and whoops rang out right around the room. There has been the usual round of negative chatter from the community, but given the immense task of curating and programming such a festival the first edition of Mutek AE was a sight to behold and the team behind the festival should be very pleased with what they have accomplished. Roll on next year. PRESENTS

With the weather now being perfect for outdoor music events it is time for Groove on the Grass to unveil their next show stopping line-up on Friday, December 15… Heading up this monstrous event is German duo Modeselektor. Originally signed to Ellen Allien’s BPitch Control imprint, the duo has since setup their own genre defining label –Monkeytown . Known for the downtempo, chilled out output such as Gajek’s recent long player “’17”. When Modeselektor perform live there is only one place to be and that is right in the middle of the crowd. Their high octane live sets span the full spectrum of their back catalogue which takes in rap, acid, hardcore and of course techno. One of the Belleville Three and one of the founding fathers of Detroit techno, Derrick May is an artist in every possible sense of the world. Penning one of the most important tracks in electronic music history – “Strings of Life”. May’s imprint has also remained at the vanguard of electronic music and with the imprints 2016 release of classically trained Francesco Tristano’s LP “Surface Tension” and Vince Watson re-rubs of epochal Transmat classics from Rhythim is Rhythim. May easily fuses classic techno cuts with new school bombs to create a wide pastiche of electronic music. Hotflush boss Paul Rose aka Scuba has given us some seriously good music over the years. From the early days of Hotflush, Joy Orbison’s game changing “Hyph Mngo” to Paul Woolford’s anthemic “Untitled”, Scuba has long been known for having a keen ear for the next big underground hit. His current percussive sound is perfectly illustrated on his recent “Below The Line” EP, so expect tracks from his recent studio outings to be ringing out in to the night air. Groove on the Grass favourite Steve Bug returns to Dubai for another lesson in forward thinking house and techno. The Poker Flat Recordings boss has managed to remain just below the surface of the big time ensuring that his musical direction and drive remain intact. Having courted universal success with his label and the early works from Trentmoller on the imprint Steve has long been known for being a taste maker his label was right at the front of the minimal and micro house movements. Canadian artist Maher Daniel completes the line-up for the next Groove on the Grass on Friday, December 15. Resident at one of the world’s best clubs – Stereo, Daniel knows a thing or two about warming a dancefloor and as he is no stranger to UAE you will be in safe hands at Golf Course. As always there will be a supporting cast of local heroes, so make sure you grab those early bird tickets before they are gone.

THE WILD FAR WEST Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE is best known for its raucous parties and there is no other party brand in the world right now that fits this remit better thanEl Row. In the last few years the Spanish party juggernaut has been conquering clubs and festivals all over the world and they will again be rolling in to town on Friday, December 1 for a tech house shoot out… Scottish party starter Jackmaster has seen him go from eclectic selector to one of the most in demand DJ’s on the circuit. Jack is also now a firm staple of the summer festival scene too and has seen him deliver stand out sets at Warehouse Project, ADE and Oasis Festival in Morocco to name only a small handful of huge events to have been treated to sets from Jack. In an age where artists are usually judged by the strength of their own productions, Jackmaster is one of a few that have risen to the high ranks of electronic music based purely on the strength of his mixing skills. Sure, he co-runs the high-grade imprint Numbers but it is his cyclopaedic knowledge of music and dextrous skills behind the decks that have got him where he is today. Crosstown Rebel regular Russ Yallop has had a huge impact on the face of British house music since he signalled his arrival with “I Can’t Wait” back in 2010. Since those early days of the changing of the UK tech house guard, Russ has gone on to become a highly- prized artist and remix specialist. It is the latter productions that have been earning Russ huge praise recently, rerubbing artists such as The Deepshakerz, Rich Wakley, Ki Creighton has in the process boosted his already bulging discography. Rounding out the guests is El Row resident and Spaniard George Privatti. Having cultivate his DJ sound in the huge main rooms of the various El Row parties he has rocked around the world, George has also created a production sound all of his own too and his recent “Young Lady” EP on Playmobil is tailor made for the madness of an El Row party. As always there will be the rock-solid team of Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE residents backing up the headliners. Make sure you get to Blue Marlin early to avoid the queues as this is surely to be a road block.

CREAMFIelDS The upcoming return of Abu Dhabi on Friday, December 8 has seen fans clamouring to get their hands on one of the hottest tickets in town and the event headed up by Canadian superstar and the Swedish duo of Axwell & Ingrosso there is more surprises to come… As if Deadmau5 and Axwell & Ingrosso wasn’t enough, Creamfields have added UK progressive trance trio Above & Beyond to the line-up. Comprising of Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki this electronic group formed during trance’s heyday in 2000 and in the process formed one of the genres most success collectives. This also in turn spawned their label Anjunabeats and then later came the deep house leaning Anjunadeep. The trio have also tasted massive commercial success with their studio prowess being added to Britney Spears, Dido, Madonna as well as classic trance tracks such as Delerium’s “Silence”, Motorcycle’s “As The Rush Comes” and Tomcraft’s world beating “Loneliness”. Above & Beyond have over the years learned to bend and shape to the ever-changing musical landscape but have still managed to maintain their trance roots. With the advent of their deep house imprint Anjunadeep in 2005 and quickly became one of the world’s hottest labels. Effortlessly bridging the gap between trance, progressive house and deep house, the label is home to one of the genres finest exponents Dusky, Jody Wisteroff and Way Out West. Anjunadeep also helped to hook in a new generation of music lovers that were too young to experience the original boom of trance. In turn this lead to Above & Beyond again climbing the ranks of dance music and in to the upper section of the lauded DJ Mag Top 100. As well as international mega stars putting in high octane performances Creamfields Abu Dhabi will also feature sets from some of the regions finest artists -MaDJam , Hollaphonic and Arcade 82.

Facebook.com/Megsstar @megsstar megsstartechnology MARIKA ROSSA Ahead of the colourful character taking over the decks at Decibel on Thursday, December 7, Infusion Magazine sat down with the rising Ukrainian techno artist…

Can you tell us how you found your way to techno? Techno for me is very inspiring from a creative aspect as it is so diverse and you can always find the perfect way to express yourself in this particular moment, so I guess it was natural for me to become so into it. What made you get in to DJing and producing your own tracks? I used to do many bookings for clubs and events in Ukraine, so I had a chance to meet a lot of DJ’s who were telling me I should start producing if I want to keep advancing in my career. Where do you feel your break came or is that yet to come? My path hasn’t been smooth and easy as I’m not a prodigious child or the person who got in the right place at the right moment. It’s been long 10 years of really hard work, so I learned to embrace every small victory as something dear. Where have you played recently that has blown you away? I guess it was Echelon Festival in Bad Aibling, Germany, where I played this summer and the video got over 3 million views. In a scene where it is accepted to wear black clothes, what has been the reaction to your colourful personality? Well, being yourself is always harder than accommodating to the pattern. It’s not only in the club scene. People tend to criticize everything that doesn’t fit in their concept of what is right. But I think that being yourself and enjoying it, is what really makes you happy and satisfied with your life. What releases do you have coming up on Fresh Cut or any other labels? I’m now working on several collaborations for my Fresh Cut label and a remix for Angy Kore, as well as the new collection of clothes for Fresh Cut club wear. How will you be approaching your Dubai debut for Decibel shortly? This is a very new experience for me, I’ve never been to your country before, so I’m waiting eagerly to discover the nightlife in Dubai, as every country is so unique in terms of partying, which is always the most intriguing and appealing part of the club journey for me.

#CREAMFIELDSAD THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT Being hailed as the next big thing in music of any genre is no small thing, but when you look at the credentials of Atlanta rapper Future it is easy to see why that title has been applied…. Future has collected an impressive amount of critically acclaimed mix tapes over the years and (2014), (2015), and 56 Nights (2015) is just a few of his mixtape highlights. However, it has been full length albums that have propelled Future in to the record books. DS2 (2015), (2015) and Evol (2016) have all debuted at the top of the Billboard charts, but it is his latest 2 LP’s that have amassed the most amount of attention. When his self-titled album was released in February 2017 it shot straight to the number one slot, but when his next album was released a week later, it meant Future was the first artist in history to have his album knocked off the top spot by his next album. Such is the hype that surrounds this rapper, and what makes this even more exciting is that he will be performing at BASE Dubai on Saturday, December 2, so make sure you catch this hot artist and see what all the fuss is about.

mmidubai.com /mmidubai @mmi_dubai MMIDubai Soundstage JAY ABO Infusion Magazine spoke with the very talented Jay Abo…

My biggest gig ever was…AUB outdoor festival in Beirut.

I’m best known for…my YouTube renditions of big pop songs and my first released single “Wait For Me”.

I’m most proud of…my original music arsenal.

The artist I’d most like to work with is…probably Childish Gambino. He’s got a wild brain.

One thing you may not know about me is that…I make better sandwiches than most 5 star restaurants in the region.

This year, I’m playing in…at Iris every Tuesday. Molecule in D3 on Wednesdays and The Westin Golf course in AD on Thursday nights. Also plan on showcasing my more electronic persona at Kaynouna.

My sound is described as…Soulful, bluesy, easy. My music sounds like…the lovechild of James Blake and John Mayer.

If I had to live in one decade it would be…the roaring 20’s when everything was possible and your will alone could take you anywhere you wanted to go. Not to sound too “midnight in Paris” but I wouldn’t mind a late-night coffee with the Fitzgeralds.

The one piece of music kit I can’t live without is…my Olympic white Fender Stratocaster. That’s a guitar by the way. We have great conversations.

For booking information contact [email protected]. DJ BOOTH: RICARDO DE MENESES With Ricardo cutting his teeth on the burgeoning London house and techno scene, he has recently been added to vinyl only Move Sounds collective…

Dubai’s clubbing scene is…in its infancy and while smaller than London or Berlin, it’s really diverse in terms of music and the crowd. That being said it’s certainly one of the most challenging environments to organise events due to the laws and attitude of venue managers.

My favourite ever record is…Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Pt2, Dave Brubeck - Take Five, Ralph Vaughn Williams - Fantasia, A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation, Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody.

What track could you drop in every set? The Ron Honey Experience – Nitedrive.

Setup of choice? 2 Technics 1210’s & Urei/Bozak/Rane.

Biggest DJ achievement to date is…playing with my favourite artist Ion Ludwig (Live) on 15/12/17 at Echo Sound 17.

Favourite musical era…Well, the 90’s was the start of house and techno, then those sounds developed and diversified during the 00’s, but honestly, I’m thrilled to be djing right now where there is a mixture of new and old dj’s and great music that is more accessible than before through Discogs and SoundCloud.

DJ hero…Easy, Craig Richards. I’ve not seen anyone so consistently own ’s room 1 over the years, the man is a genius and my inspiration as a DJ.

A whole area is also dedicated to pork - Parma ham, prosciutto, a full suckling roasted pig with apple sauce will have the meat eaters salivating at the sheer sight. Further along the brunch route, steak joint Hunters Room and Grill presented the most delicious roast beef I have ever had, when I say roast beef, it was more like thinly cut fillet steak. Out of this world. Indian cuisine, London style fish and chips, an outdoor stone bake pizza oven for your Italian cravings, and Arabic style food was also very well represented here via the various branded pop-up stalls. There is literally something from every corner of the world and the quality of the food was totally befitting of Bubbualicious’ success. For those wishing to end their meal in style the dessert area was something straight out of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the cheese room was something dreams are made of. Tipple wise, you can expect all of your needs to be met here as the house beverage package covered everything from whole, fresh watermelons to cocktails in novelty shaped mugs and cups from all of the top end brands. And the bubbles? Well, they were truly Bubblalicious. Free flowing bubbly/sparkling/soft drinks at AED680/AED550/ AED450. Kids under 6 years eat for free.
