Leigh Blennerhassett first joined the club in 2006 coming from Meerlieu Cricket Club. Leigh’s senior playing career at Boronia includes: • Games: 113 • Wickets: 126 (Best figures 7/20) • Runs: 929 at 18.82 • 160th player to play 1st XI • Dual premiership players • But perhaps Leigh’s greatest contribution to the club comes through his work off the field. Leigh’s off-field roles include: • General committee (2010-2012) • Secretary (2012 - current) • Treasurer (2018-2019) • Leigh’s ability to coordinate and complete all tasks and duties required to operate our club is admirable. He is the one keeping everything on track, prompting others when something needs to be actioned. Leigh’s commitment to these roles goes far and beyond what is expected. He is always first to put his hand up when a task pops up often before being asked. Whether its stocking the bar, assisting in fundraising efforts, cleaning, and handover duties, running the bar during functions, organising equipment - the list goes on. In 2012, 2013 & 2016 Leigh took home the Presidents Trophy, a club record, and in 2014 & 2018 he was awarded the Best Clubman Award. Leigh’s commitment and loyalty to the Boronia Cricket Club is unparalleled. Leigh Blennerhassett becomes the 49th Life Member of the Boronia Cricket Club. *Nomination passed during 2018-19 Annual General Meeting. 3 BORONIA CRICKET CLUB 97TH ANNUAL REPORT 2019-20 LIFE MEMBER INDUCTEE Matthew Smyth The committee of Boronia Cricket Club nominates Matthew Smyth for Life Membership. Matt joined the Boronia Cricket Club in 2001/02 as a junior player working his way up through the senior ranks, debuting in the 1st XI in 2006. He was the 141st player to represent Boronia in the 1st XI. His no fuss attitude in all roles he takes on is a real support to the committee and the playing group. Matt constantly puts in long hours and can be seen at the club at all hours doing many jobs for the club to run smoothly on a day to day basis. His playing career at Boronia includes: • 190 games (88 games in 1st XI) • 2203 runs at 15.40 (Highest score 98) • 97 wickets at 24.63 (Best figures 4/22) • 113 catches (8th highest) • 1st XI Player No. 141 • 2nd XI Premiership player. Matt has taken on many roles within the club over the years including: • President (2014-2019) • Junior Coordinator (2018-2020) • Social Coordinator • Committee Member for a number of years • The first player to be part of the Holmesdale/Boronia Exchange program in 2009. Matt often fulfills many roles which go unseen by many of the club especially after hours with paperwork and correspondence for all club matters. Matt always has his presidential duties and information ready for the club’s monthly committee meetings. Matthew Smyth becomes the 50th Life Member of the Boronia Cricket Club. *Nomination passed during 2018-19 Annual General Meeting. BORONIA CRICKET CLUB 97TH ANNUAL REPORT 2019-20 4 PRESIDENTS REPORT It gives me great pleasure to present the President’s report for the 2019-20 season – my first report as President. Looking back at the past season, I am extremely proud of what the club has achieved both on and off the field. When Matt Smyth informed me that he was taking a well-deserved break and stepping down as President, it was with both trepidation and excitement that I nominated to take on the role. Excitement at getting to help shape the club moving forward, but also some nervousness about leading a club with a history of great leaders. I hope I’ve done the job justice in my first year, I’ve certainly learnt a lot and I’ve enjoyed the challenge. Matt Smyth is certainly a hard act to follow. In my 20 years at the club, I’ve not seen anyone invest as much time and effort into helping run the place as I’ve seen Matt do over his 5 years as President. He has informed me that he wishes to step entirely back from the committee this year and I’m not sure anyone could begrudge him for wanting to have a spell after so many years. Personally, Matt has been an enormous source of guidance and knowledge, so to you Matt, both from myself and on behalf of the club, I say a big thank you. As a committee I thought our team of Rod Kimmitt, Leigh Blennerhassett, Matt Smyth, Melanie Kogelman, Michael Kogelman, John Blennerhassett, Mark Harris and Stephen Bowen did an exceptional job in helping run the club. Hard and unpopular decisions had to be made along the way – the introduction of the helmet policy certainly comes to mind – but these are decisions that are made in the best interest of taking the club forward, which should be the goal of any good committee. To all of you, I thank you for the time and effort you all put in. Special mention goes to first time committee member and club Treasurer Mel Kogelman. It took us a few attempts to convince her to join up, and I’m certainly glad she did. With any luck we can convince her to look after the books for a few more seasons to come. Socially it was great to see the club hold a number of successful functions this year, helping push the club into a stronger financial position. Even more encouraging was seeing the next generation of players really getting behind these functions. Cam Blease, Kyle Schmidtke, Ethan Ward, Cody Eccles, Harrison Jurs, Mitch Tucker, Matt Rose’Meyer and Zac Kalisperis bouncing around the rooms late into the night was particularly pleasing. We certainly hope to see these players, and the next gen behind them, enjoying the club for many, many years to come. An early success was the signing of Chris McCartin as coach of the club. Having played both with Chris as a player, and under him as captain of our 1st Dunstan side, I knew what kind of person we were getting and he hasn’t let us down. Whilst I’m sure his older school methods certainly got the attention of some players early, the group as a whole really responded well, and the proof is in the results – Three teams in the finals with two teams finishing the season as the runner up in the Grand Final. While naturally a Grand Final win for one of the teams would have topped of the season, it was overall a massive improvement from previous years. I’d like to thank Chris for his efforts and look forward to seeing us take another big step forward this year. 5 BORONIA CRICKET CLUB 97TH ANNUAL REPORT 2019-20 Another thanks goes out to our captains for this season. Chris McEwan, Scott Moody, John Blennerhassett and Pete Godwin did a fantastic job representing the club on match day. We had nothing but positive reports back from the associations about our on field conduct, and that comes from the top so thanks to you all.

Pakistan claimed the honours in the dress rehearsal for the final with a memo- rable victory over the world champions in a dramatic day/night encounter at Trent Bridge on Tuesday. The game lived up to its billing right from the onset as Saeed Anwar and Saleem Elahi tore into the Australia attack. Elahi was in particularly impressive form, blast- ing 79 from 91 balls as Pakistan plundered 290 from their 50 overs. But, never wanting to be outdone, the Australians responded in fine style with Adam Gilchrist attacking the Pakistan bowling with equal relish. The wicketkeep- er sensationally raced to his 20th one-day international half-century in just 29 balls on his way to a quick-fire 70. Once Saqlain Mushtaq had ended his 44-ball knock however, skipper Waqar Younis stepped up to take the game by the scruff of the neck. The pace star is bowling as well as he has done in years as his side come to the end of their tour of England and his figures of six for 59 fully deserved the man of the match award and to take his side to victory.

CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION FRIDAY 19th MARCH 2021 Part of Lot 344 CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 19th MARCH 2021 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down.
