Visit TheDivineMercy.org/ewtn for more information about today’s celebration Presented by the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception National of The Divine Mercy 413-298-3931 TheDivineMercy.org 413-298-3910 FAX Dear Pilgrims in Christ, On behalf of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception, I welcome you to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy. During this year, we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima. In 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three simple children in Fatima, Portugal. Her call was one of prayer, reparation, and devo- tion to the Eucharist. She emphasized praying the for peace. Our Lady’s message is still relevant for today. The Church experienced more martyrs in the 20th century than all other centuries combined. Our Lady showed the children this in the third secret. The blood of the martyrs is the seed for the new springtime of Divine Mercy. The message of Divine Mercy will help bring forth the triumph of the . This year is also the 50th Anniversary of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. We pray that the will reenkindle the flame of love and mercy in our hearts. May His power trans- form us into living images of Divine Mercy especially for the poor and needy of this world. We welcome our main celebrant this year, Bishop Edward Scharfenberger, from the diocese of Albany, NY, our neighboring diocese. We are honored to have him celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday with us. Thank you for making a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy. May both the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Spirit lead us ever new into the heart of Divine Mercy. Sincerely yours in Christ and Mary,

Fr. Anthony Gramlich, MIC Rector, National Shrine of The Divine Mercy

HOUR OF GREAT MERCY EXPOSITION OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT WERNER O Salutaris Hostia, Quae caeli pandis ostium; Bella premunt hostilia, Da robur, fer auxilium. Uni trinoque Domino, Sit sempiterna gloria, Qui vitam sine termino, Nobis donet in patria. Amen.

10 SATURDAY, APRIL 22 (DAY 9) DIVINE MERCY NOVENA “Today bring to Me SOULS WHO HAVE BECOME LUKEWARM, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These souls wound My Heart most painfully. My soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of Olives because of lukewarm souls. They were the reason I cried out: ‘Father, take this cup away from Me, if it be Your will.’ For them the last hope of salvation is to run to My mercy.” Most Compassionate Jesus, You are Compassion Itself. I bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Your pure love let these tepid souls, who, like corpses, filled You with such deep loathing, be once again set aflame. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Your mercy and draw them into the very ardor of Your love, and bestow upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is beyond Your power. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beg You by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three- hour agony on the Cross: let them, too, glorify the abyss of Your mercy. Amen.

SUNDAY, APRIL 23 (DAY 1) DIVINE MERCY NOVENA “Today bring to Me ALL MANKIND, ESPECIALLY ALL SINNERS, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. In this way you will console Me in the bitter grief into which the loss of souls plunges Me.” Most Merciful Jesus, whose very nature it is to have compassion on us and to forgive us, do not look upon our sins but upon our trust which we place in Your infinite goodness. Receive us all into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, and never let us escape from It. We beg this of You by Your love which unites You to the Father and the Holy Spirit. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon all mankind and especially upon poor sinners, all enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion show us Your mercy, that we may praise the omnipotence of Your mercy forever and ever. Amen. PRAYER FOR THE HOUR OF GREAT MERCY You expired Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us (Diary of Saint Maria , 1319). O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus, as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You (3 times) (Diary, 84).

11 THE DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET The Our Father // The Hail Mary // The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy , the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. On the Our Father beads: V. Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, R. in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. On the Hail Mary beads: V. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, R. Have mercy on us and on the whole world. IN CONCLUSION: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (3 times) (Diary, 476) Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen (Diary, 950). BENEDICTION HYMN ST. THOMAS Tantum ergo Sacramentum, Veneremur cernui, Et antiquum documentum, Novo cedat ritui; Praestet fides supplementum, Sensuum defectui. Genitori genitoque, Laus et jubilatio, Salus, honor, virtus quoque, Sit et benedictio: Procedenti ab utroque, Compar sit laudatio. Amen. THE DIVINE PRAISES Blessed be God. Blessed be His holy Name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man. Blessed be the Name of Jesus.

12 Blessed be His Most . Blessed be His Most Precious Blood. Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar. Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete. Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy. Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception. Blessed be her glorious Assumption. Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother. Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse. Blessed be God in His angels and in His saints. HOLY GOD, WE PRAISE THY NAME GROSSER GOTT Holy God, we praise Thy Name! Lord of all we bow before Thee; All on earth Thy scepter claim, All in heav’n above adore Thee; Infinite Thy vast domain, Everlasting is Thy reign. Amen. BLESSING OF RELIGIOUS ARTICLES AND HOLY WATER RECESSIONAL HYMN O God, Beyond All Praising O God, beyond all praising/ We worship You today And sing the love amazing/ That songs cannot repay; For we can only wonder/ At every gift You send, At blessings without number/ And mercies without end; We lift our hearts before/ You And wait upon Your word, We honor and adore You/ Our great and mighty Lord. The flow’r of earthly splendor/ In time must surely die, Its fragile bloom surrender/ to You, the Lord most high; But hidden from all nature/ Th’eternal seed is sown, Though small in mortal stature/ To heaven’s garden grown; For Christ the man from heaven/ From death has set us free, And we through Him are given/ The final victory.

Then hear, O gracious Savior/ Accept the love we bring, That we who know your favor/ May serve You as our King; And whether our tomorrows/ Be filled with good or ill, We’ll triumph through our sorrows/ And rise to bless You still; To marvel at Your beauty/ And glory in Your ways, And make a joyful duty/ Our sacrifice of praise.

13 The St. Andrew Principal Choir, Colchester, Connecticut, has been touring internationally for the past two decades, beginning with an invitation to sing at the Vatican for Pope John Paul II’s twentieth anniversary in 1998. From that point forward, the choir began pilgrimage/concert tours across Europe and North America: France (2001, including the Can- dlelight procession at Lourdes), Ireland (2004, singing at St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral in Dublin, Galway Cathedral and Knock), Washington D.C. (2006, concerts at the National Basilica and at St Matthew’s Cathedral), Greece (2008, masses in Athens, at Mary’s house in Ephesus, and a concert aboard a cruise ship), Germany/Austria (2010, attending the famous Oberammergau “Passion Play” and singing the “Mariazeller Mass” with the Salzburg choir and Symphony at Salzburg Cathedral — Mozart’s Church), Canada (2012, concerts at the Basilica of Notre Dame and St. Joseph’s Oratory), Fatima (2015), and Barcelona (2015, concerts at Montserrat and Sagrada Familia Cathedral).

The Congregation of Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Most B.V.M. is a community of about 500 priests and brothers who are serving Christ and the Church in 20 countries on six continents. Founded in Poland in 1673 by St. Stanislaus Papczynski, the Marians were the first Catholic men’s order to give witness to Mary’s Immaculate Conception by bearing this title. The Marians’ Founder was canonized on June 5, 2016. The Marian charism is three-fold: to spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception that others may come to know her as the powerful intercessor she is; to pray for the souls in , especially those who have no one else to pray for them; and to assist parish priests where the need is greatest. For six decades, the Marians have established apostolates that continue to strengthen and build up the Church.
