Using Freegal, at home, on Windows PCs with Windows Media Player. Freegal is free and legal access to MP3 music to download for your personal use. Freegal downloaded songs are DRM-free (no digital rights management restrictions) and will not expire. Music is from the Sony Music Entertainment catalog and includes a variety of music genres and artists. Each individual library card holder may download 3 songs per week. A new week starts Sunday at 9 p.m. Pacific Time.
Log in to the Freegal website. At the Pierce County Library homepage hover over the BOOKS/MATERIALS tab. Click on DOWNLOADABLE MUSIC
Click on the free music icon. When prompted, enter your library card number and pin/password.
Browse the music catalog. From the Freegal homepage browse by music genre, newly added material or what’s popular. Use the advanced search tool to locate a specific artist or song.
1 Download Music. To preview a song before downloading click on the play button. To download a song click on download now.
Choose Save and select where you want to save the music file. In this example we will save the song to the desktop.
Open Windows Media Player. Drag your music file from the desktop and drop it into your Windows Media Player library. Use Windows Media Player to sync your music with your MP3 device.
2 Additional Tips and Tricks:
Freegal keeps track of how many songs you have downloaded each week.
To download a song that you have previously downloaded, within the past two weeks, click on Recent Downloads.
You may download a song up to 2 additional times from the Recent Downloads page. 3
