In the second half of the 1970s, Brian Eno, Larry Fast, Mickey Hart, Stomu Yamashta and many other musicians blurred the lines between rock and avantgarde. Brian Eno (34), ex-keyboardist for Roxy Music, changed the course of rock music at least three times. The experiment of fusing pop and electronics on Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy (sep 1974 - nov 1974) changed the very notion of what a "pop song" is. Eno took cheap melodies (the kind that are used at the music-hall, on television commercials, by nursery rhymes) and added a strong rhythmic base and counterpoint of synthesizer. The result was similar to the novelty numbers and the "bubblegum" music of the early 1960s, but it had the charisma of sheer post-modernist genius. Eno had invented meta-pop music: avantgarde music that employs elements of pop music. He continued the experiment on Another Green World (aug 1975 - sep 1975), but then changed its perspective on Before And After Science (? 1977 - dec 1977). Here Eno's catchy ditties acquired a sinister quality.

west coast music Encore Please find attached the Encore Band song list for your review. SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need to have your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, F/D Dance, etc) FOUR WEEKS prior to your event so that we can confirm the band will be able to perform the song(s) and so that we have time to locate sheet music and audio of the song(s). In some cases where sheet music is not available or an arrangement for the full band is needed, this gives us time to properly prepare the music. Clients are not obligated to submit a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and/or avoided. If you desire the highest degree of control (asking the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), we would ask for a minimum 80 requests from the band’s songlist. • Phila PA Chronicles
Phila PA Chronicles Sharing memories of people, places and events that left their mark on the Philadelphia region in the 20th century June 28, 2013 He made his dreams come true: Daryl Hall My favorite musical group of all time, hands down, is Daryl Hall and John Oates. I’ve admired them since I first saw them on the Merv Griffin Show in 1980. That they were Philly boys made it even better. In pop music, duos tend to be “married off” for life. Though it’s hard to talk about Hall without Oates, today I’m going to concentrate on Hall—the taller, blonder half of the duo. Daryl Hall's solo Sacred Songs album cover Where did Daryl grow up? Daryl Franklin Hohl grew up in Cedarville, Chester County, on the outskirts of Pottstown. After graduating from Owen J. Roberts High School in 1964, young Daryl headed to Temple University, eager to shake off the constraints of his small town. Daryl has said, “I had vague ideas of a music career. I was always a musician. Temple was considered to be the city college. I wanted to move to Philadelphia for the music.” How did Daryl get his start in music? Once in the city, Daryl immersed himself in Philly’s musical scene, gravitating toward soul, R&B and the burgeoning Sound of Philadelphia. He sang with the Delfonics and the Stylistics and got to know Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Tommy Bell. Hall remembers spending time on Philly street corners, harmonizing with other singers. Daryl also hung out with the Temptations when they performed at the Uptown Theater in North Philadelphia.

Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein Table of Contents Starship Troopers Chapter 8 Chapter 1 Chapter 9 Chapter 2 Chapter 10 Chapter 3 Chapter 11 Chapter 4 Chapter 12 Chapter 5 Chapter 13 Chapter 6 Chapter 14 Chapter 7 Chapter 1 Come on, you apes! You wanta live forever? — Unknown platoon sergeant, 1918 I always get the shakes before a drop. I’ve had the injections, of course, and hypnotic preparation, and it stands to reason that I can’t really be afraid. The ship’s psychiatrist has checked my brain waves and asked me silly questions while I was asleep and he tells me that it isn’t fear, it isn’t anything important — it’s just like the trembling of an eager race horse in the starting gate. I couldn’t say about that; I’ve never been a race horse. But the fact is: I’m scared silly, every time. At D-minus-thirty, after we had mustered in the drop room of theRodger Young , our platoon leader inspected us. He wasn’t our regular platoon leader, because Lieutenant Rasczak had bought it on our last drop; he was really the platoon sergeant, Career Ship’s Sergeant Jelal. Jelly was a Finno-Turk from Iskander around Proxima — a swarthy little man who looked like a clerk, but I’ve seen him tackle two berserk privates so big he had to reach up to grab them, crack their heads together like coconuts, step back out of the way while they fell. Off duty he wasn’t bad — for a sergeant.
